RationaleMy film Try is about an average ballerina, who is striving for artistic perfection, but must
face her own doubts and misgivings about herself. This film explores the true ideals of artistic perfection in the mind of an artist, and how far one is willing to go to break past one’s own inner demons to reach an ultimate goal. An influence on the film was the use of montage editing and portrayal of duality from the work of Andrew Weisblum in Black Swan. and the artistic dance sequences and psychological editing from the work of Reginald Mills in The Red Shoes.
The production role I have assumed for this film is editor.

Pre-Production:
During the initial sections of the pre-production phrase, I was actively working with my group to build our film. We met weekly before classes started again to discuss new ideas so that we were able to slingshot new concepts and themes against one another. We were able to conjure the main purpose of our film, the true ideal of artistic perfection, with a combination of each member’s experience in the concept. After we created our script, which was decided to be totally without any spoken dialogue, I helped in starting the storyboards. When we had started pre-production, I had only superficially observed the dance sequences in our film’s 2 main influences, The Red Shoes and Black Swan. However, with some background knowledge, I was able to implement some of my ideas into the storyboards, which were inspired by some of Andrew Weisblum work in Black Swan. An example is as is shown below
In addition to examining the editing techniques utilised in Black Swan, I also noted the editing style of Reginald Mills in The Red Shoes, notably in the dance sequences, which was very

interesting. I noted how he used the psychological response of the characters in various intercut closeups to convey their mental and emotional state at that time. I wanted to try to utilize this during our film also, as shown in the following storyboards.

Though I aided in conjuring some of the story boards, I was not able to work on all of them. However, my group thus designed all of the storyboards to ensure that there would be continuity between the scenes and shots. Once we had scripted, and storyboarded our film, my group felt set to begin production.
