AUTO BODY / COLLISION REPAIR TECHNOLOGY What is Auto Body / Collision Repair Technology? Everything you need or want to know about body work! Learn real skills by doing real repairs as part of your studies. We teach the current standards, from fixing small dents to rebuilding the bodies of wrecked or damaged vehicles. This program maintains the current commercial standards. Students are taught the types of materials used in filler compounds, the colors and chemical make-up of paints used to refinish, welding and cutting procedures, design and installation of trim, cost estimating, and preparation for finish work. All are skills applied during actual jobs performed in hands-on lab assignments. Progression in the Collision Repair Technology program is contingent upon achievement of a grade of C or better in each course and maintenance of a 2.0 cumulative grade point average. Job Outlook According to the Department of Labor, the job outlook for auto body mechanics/repairers is about as fast as the national average at 19%. Hourly pay averages $18 per hour nationally with a national salary average of $37,201. Technical courses to be utilized in this degree will be taken from the list of approved technical courses at Hazard Community and Technical College. *Listing of General Education requirements may be found in the KCTCS catalog.
