Student Health Policy Love & Laugh Learning Center is a well-child preschool. Arizona Child Care Regulations (R9-5-515) requires that all licensed childcare programs NOT permit a child to remain at a facility if a staff member determines that a child is showing signs of illness or infestation, especially if two or more symptoms are observed at one time. Parents, or other authorized guardians, will be notified when their child as a sign or symptom that requires exclusion from preschool. The health policy must be strictly followed for the health and safety of all the children and staff in the center. Failure to comply with this policy may result in your child being disenrolled from the program. It is highly recommended that parents have a plan in place for alternate back up care when their child is sick. In the event that you are called and asked to pick up your child, your child will be kept separate from other children to prevent the spread of illness until picked up. He/she will need to be picked up within one hour from the time of the call. Failure to pick up your child within the one-hour time frame will result in a one-day suspension of services. In accordance with the Parent Manual and Agreement, no refunds will be given for sick time away from the center. Doctors’ notes for any of the following illnesses for an early return to care will not be accepted. All children must stay out of care for the required period of time and meet all the requirements to return. Love & Laugh Learning Center is a well-child preschool. FEVERA child with a fever of 100° Fahrenheit or more, is to be sent home. He/she may return when fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication.

DIARRHEAA child having uncontrolled diarrhea will be sent home. She/he may return when the condition improves (stools are no longer watery and are returning to normal consistency) and toleration bland foods or ½ formula and is symptom free for 24 hours. Uncontrolled diarrhea is defined as:

o An increase in the number of stools compared with the child’s normal pattern.o Increased stool water.o Decreased form that is not contained by the diaper or use of the toilet.

o After second stool, parent will be notified, and a decision make about whether the child will be sent home.

VOMITINGIf a child is acting ill and has vomited 1 – 2 times, he/she is to be sent home. The child may return if there has been no vomiting for 24 hours and are tolerating bland foods or formula.

MOUTH SORESA child who has mouth sores and is drooling will be excluded from day care. He/she may be readmitted when ALL sores are scabbed and healed.

EYE INFECTIONParents will be notified if child has signs and symptoms of conjunctivitis. The child will be sent home with recommendations to see a physician. She/he may return after 24 hours of antibiotic therapy and fever free for 24 hours without the use of a fever reducing medication. Doctors notes will not be accepted. All children must stay out of care for the required time.

EAR INFECTIONIf a child exhibits symptoms of an ear infection and is acting ill, parents will be notified so that they may take the child to see a physician. The child may return after initiation of antibiotic therapy or if cleared by a physician. The child must be fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication.

CHICKEN POXA child will be sent home when chicken pox lesions are detected. He/she may return when ALL chicken pox lesions have dried and crusted.

HAND, FOOT, AND MOUTH VIRUSA child will be excluded until fever free for 24 hours without the use of a fever reducing medication. A child who has open mouth sores and is drooling or who has open blisters on their hands or feet may be excluded at the director’s discretion. A child may still have a rash and sores for up to 2 weeks.

HEAD LICEA child with head lice will be excluded from preschool and may return when hair has been properly treated and ALL nits have been removed. The director will check the child before she/he may return.

IMPETIGOA child with impetigo lesions will be excluded from preschool as it is a highly contagious skin infection. He/she will be referred to a physician and may return to day care 24 hours after the start of antibiotic therapy.

PIN WORMSA child with pin worms will be excluded from day care until 24 hours after treatment. Proof of treatment is required.

RINGWORMIf a child is suspected to have ringworm, parents will be notified to remove the child from daycare and see a physician. The child may return after 24 hours of the initiation of medication or clearance from a physician. ALL infected areas must remain covered. Proof of physician care is required.

ROTA VIRUSA child with rotavirus will be excluded from day care until watery stools stop and has been fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication.

RSVIf a child is diagnosed with RSV, he/she will be excluded from daycare for 7 days after diagnosis and/or discharge from the hospital. Children age 2 and older diagnosed with RSV may return to the center upon doctor release after the 7-day period.

SHIGELLAA child with shigella should be excluded from day care until she/he has NO shigella in his/her stools (two negative stool cultures). A written doctor’s note is required prior to return stating that the child has had two negative stool cultures.

STREP THROATA child with fever and strep throat will be excluded from day care. He/she may return after 24 hours of antibiotic therapy and if fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication.

Other illnesses or conditions that require treatment by a physician will be managed as directed by the physician after approval by the center director.
