T. Akers-Porter commented on MOI: Other - “Students are required to meet 45 hours of observation in an appropriate educational setting” and questioned if students living outside the local area were able to do the hours of observation. Both J. Brennan and N. Sill commented on how their students were arranging the needed hours of observation on their own in the areas where they were taking the course.

1. Articulation: C-ID Newsletter – January L. Senechal

L. Senechal noted that we usually receive GE approvals by the end of March, early April. L. Senechal reported that MJC has been notified that there have been delays and that GE approval results have been pushed out to May.

2. Academic Senate S. Circle

S. Circle reported:

The Resource Allocation Model (RAM) was up for a second read at the April 30, 2020 meeting N. Gopal was stepping down as Assessment Coordinator C. Mulder is retiring and Thursday, April 30, 2020 will be her last Academic Senate meeting

3. eLumen Transition J. Zellet/B. Adams

B. Adams reported:

Weekly check-in meeting is continuing We are still in the testing site because of an issue with a custom part Hope to be notified at Wednesday, April 29, 2020 check-in meeting that we will be moving to the production

site very soon

4. Externally-Funded Program Development B. Adams

B. Adams relayed the following update from J. Abbot regarding the Externally-Funded Program Development.

“We are submitting a National Science Foundation Scholarship grant for the Agriculture and Environmental Sciences Division. This grant would provide scholarships to Ag students and provide focused support services, including a Summer Institute, field trips, and other activities. There is no impact on curriculum.

1. Shadow Placement Courses B. Adams/H. TownsendH. Townsend noted that the Shadow Placement Course list has been updated based on information that was received regarding ELIC and ELW courses. H. Townsend added that the ELIC and ELW Shadow Requisites have been put in Colleague to ensure that students get through the ELIC and ELW courses with no issues.

4. SUR Subcommittee Formation

S. Circle noted that two SUR Subcommittees have been formed consisting of:

Math = M. Garcia, C. Howard (Chair), and P. Mendez Spanish = T. Akers-Porter (Chair), J. Brennan, and H. Duarte

B. Adams noted that on the MJC Curriculum Committee Team site a channel called SUR Subcommittees has been created. She also noted that within the SUR Subcommittee channel, H. Townsend has created individual folders for both Math and Spanish Subcommittees in which all the documentation and attached files from CurricUNET have been inserted.

S. Circle mentioned that once the Academic Senate approves the corrected Review Process draft documents, she will forward them to L. Senechal to upload to the SUR Subcommittee’s folder. S. Circle also noted that each subcommittee will need to have a chair as well as re-stated the criteria on which the evidence forms are evaluated.

Informational Items

1. CTE 2-Year Review Forms – Fall 2019 B. AdamsB. Adams reminded the Curriculum Committee representatives that there are still CTE 2-Year Review forms, which were due in fall of 2019, that have not been turned in.

2. Curriculum Committee Membership 2020-2021

S. Circle reminded the committee members to inform the Instruction Office if they are renewing their membership or who will be their replacement. S. Circle noted that the Curriculum Committee will be losing S. Berger and C. Howard.

C. Howard noted that N. Gopal and C. Miller will be joining the Curriculum Committee as representatives for Literature and Language Arts in the fall.

XII. PUBLIC COMMENT

B. Adams acknowledged and thanked S. Berger and C. Howard for their service on the Curriculum Committee, noting that they will be missed.

M. Garcia questioned, regarding the summer Curriculum Committee meetings, if only two members need to attend the meetings. S. Circle replied that all Curriculum Committee members are invited to attend. J. Zellet noted that Outlook invitations were sent to all Curriculum Committee members and that those who can and are willing to participate are welcomed. J. Zellet mentioned that the By-Laws indicate that only two members need to attend, but the committee agreed to make the process as transparent as possible. J. Zellet stated that those committee members that do the prep and can make the meetings are welcome to do so and that they will be compensated for their time.
