FAZAIA SCHOOLS AND COLLEGESPORTFOLIO / HOMEWORK GUIDELINES

SESSION 2020-21Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,

The winter vacation homework has been planned keeping in view the age of the students. All tasks are to be performed individually and independently by the students. However, parents are requested to supervise their kids to ensure their safety. Read the following instructions carefully before starting the homework:

The learning portfolio/homework marks will carry some weightage in final exams also, so please make sure to put in the required time and effort.

The assignments of all subjects may please be maintained in a learning portfolio with a separator for each subject.

The institution’s name, student’s name, roll number and grade should be clearly labelled on the learning portfolio.

The winter vacation homework is worth of total 100 marks. The subjects English, Urdu, Mathematics, Social Study, Computer Sciences and General Science carry 15 marks each, whereas the subject Islamiat carries 10 marks.

The cover or title page of the portfolio is to be designed by students creatively representing their own choices and preferences. They may paste, draw or colour to make it more unique and attractive.

The following points will be awarded over and above the total points:

The students may use loose sheets, notebooks or register to submit solved learning portfolios. However, the solved file or copy may not exceed the following dimensions:

13 inches: Vertical

11 inches: Horizontal

The students may submit portfolios in printed form. However, extra points will be awarded for hand written portfolios.

All questions can be copied from the learning portfolio questionnaire in the answer book or sheet before answering. However, tasks like puzzles and pictures may be cut and pasted or drawn in the answer book before answering.

The students are required to put date and day on daily basis.

All pages must be numbered consecutively from the title page.

Homework should be completed neatly and legibly.

Make sure all tasks are done according to the given instructions and completed on time.

The hard copy of the winter vacation homework should be submitted on January 14th , 2020.

Late or incomplete learning portfolios will not be entertained.

Note: These guidelines are meant to describe general homework practices. Individual teachers are a source of more guidance and support. Please contact your child's teacher if you have any questions or concerns.

Q.1 Write a shape poem on the topic “cake”. After writing the poem underline the nouns (with red colour), adjectives (with green colour) and adverbs (with blue colour). (06 Marks)

Q.2 Create your own vocabulary journal by designing its front and back page that reflects your personality. You are required to read five poems from the following link https://www.poetry4kids.com/ and enlist at least sixteen words that appear new to you, also write their meanings and antonyms in your vocabulary journal. Q.3 Watch the cartoon movie “The Toy Story 1”, and identify the elements (characters, setting, problem, solution, moral (if applicable) of the story. (08 Marks)

Q.4 Write one of your happiest memory in the form of a chain story. To do the task you are required to take coloured papers, cut them in different shapes and write your memory on those small papers. After writing the memory join the pieces of paper with the help of a paper rope. Then paste the paper rope carefully in your homework folder. (08 Marks)

Note: Write a detailed report of each task including names of required material/resources, procedures, observations, and conclusion/results. All tasks are to be performed individually and independently. Parents are requested to supervise their kids to ensure their safety.

1. Connect a small bulb with cell or battery with the help of connecting wires as shown. Cut one of its connecting wire and connect its ends with different types of materials available at your home. Observe the results and identify the behaviour of each material. On the basis of your observations, make a list of at least 10 items behaving as conductors or insulators with justification. You can also perform this experiment with some other electrical device instead of small bulb. (6 marks)

2. Take a bowl of ice, put it out in direct sunshine and note its temperature after every 05 minutes. What type of change in its temperature, do you observe? How much time will it take to melt completely? Now put the same water on a stove and note down its temperature after every 30 seconds. What type of change in its temperature, do you observe now? How much time will it take to boil? Explain your observations with the help of time and temperature chart. (Perform this experiment on a sunny day) (6 marks)

3. Have you ever observed that how may electrical appliances are there in your bedroom? Write the names of all of them. How they are connected to the power supply? Also draw a possible circuits diagram or block diagram to show their electrical connectivity. (6 marks)

4. Take a beaker (jar or jug) with some water and put some drops of red or blue ink in it. Take a tender twig of any flowery plant with leaves and flowers, preferably white flowers, and put it in the beaker for 6 to 8 hours. What do you observe? For further examination cut across its stem and look for the presence of colored water. Explain your observations. (6 marks)

5. Collect at least six objects of different materials. Check them for their friction by sliding an object on their surfaces. Now arrange them according to their friction (high to low). How their friction can be reduced? Suggest some methods according to the materials. (6 marks)

1. Watch science fiction film, “Big Hero 6” with your family and note the type of input

devices used. Prepare a written report on MS Word about the possible input devices of the

future. Take a print of the document and submit it. Word Limit: 150 Words (10 marks)

2. Introduce Yourself.

Write two paragraphs (at least 4 sentences each) on self-introduction.  

In the first paragraph describe your likes, dislikes, family, one fact about you that separates

you from everyone else.

In the second paragraph, describe what you want (or think you want) to do in life and how

you plan on accomplishing that goal.

Instructions: Use the Microsoft Word to write it. Edit your introduction to correct any spelling

and grammatical errors. Format the document using the tools (text alignment, colour,

borders, bold, italic, underline, bullets and numbering, indentation, line spacing, change

case, headers and footers, spelling and grammar check) you have learned about in Chapter

7. Take the print of the word document. Mention the title “Self-Introduction” in header and

your name in footer. Save the file on the desktop with your full name. Take a print of the

document and submit it. Word Limit: 250 Words. (10 marks)

Note: Computer homework is required to be done by using computer and printer, in

case of non-availability of computer/printer, handwritten may be submitted.
