UNIT 5 – WHEN I WAS YOUNGThis is what we are going to learn in this unit:

GRAMMAR- Past simple of the verb to be: affirmative, negative, interrogative and short

answer form: I was good at PE. The sailors were scared. Was he quiet? No, he wasn’t.

- Past simple of there was/were structure: There was a storm, there were bells in the towers. There wasn’t a lighthouse. Was there electricity?

VOCABULARY- Adjectives to describe people: artistic, brave, friendly, funny, hard-working,

lazy, talkative, naughty, quiet, sporty.- Extra: ambition, automatic, awake, gold, hurling, leprechaun, mountain

The past simple of the verb to be is used to describe a person, a thing or a state in the past. Example: She was a musician in 1920. Her instruments were old. Jazz was popular.

Example. Make sure that you have used I was/wasn’t. If you don’t have the answers like in the example, that’s ok but double check that you have used WAS/WASN’T.

Com ha anat la setmana? Tornem a la càrrega! Espere que no estiga resultant-vos molt difícil el treballar l’àrea d’anglès més autònomament. Estic segura de que l’esteu fent super bé! Anem a per la següent setmana i vos recorde que podeu contactar amb mi quan tingau qualsevol dubte. Areyouready? Let’sgo!! Recordeu que no es necessari fer-ho tot de colp, aneu fent-lo poquet a poquet que teniu tota la setmana per a fer-lo. Comenceu corregint lo que haveu fet en la primera setmana. ;)

Once you have learnt the past simple tense of verb to be, let’s practice. Go to your booklet and do exercises 1 and 2 on page 10. In your activity book go to page 40 and do activities 1, 2, and 3, they are very easy!! ;)

When you finish, you will have to press “¡Terminado!” and then you will see two buttons: “Comprobar mis respuestas” and “enviar mis respuestas a mi profesora”. S´han de fer online, però la novetat es que me les podreu enviar a mi i així podré veure el vostre progrés. 1. Underline the words you don’t understand and look them up in the dictionary. Copy them in your notebook with a nice title of the story.

2. Copy these questions in your notebook and answer them. What was the weather like at the start of Granny’s story? Where does Granny live? How many people were there in the lighthouse? What was she good at when she was young? What was the problem with the radio? What is Granny’s surname?

Once you have answered these questions go to your activity book at page 42 and complete the activities (1 and 2) related to this story.
