Innovative technologies and methods that the TNC Hawaii forest program uses specifically for ungulate control and/or weeds, including UAV’s for scouting and monitoring, FLIR for ungulate detection, game camera grid arrays for pig population density and abundance #s, establishing a remote IP wireless system in the field with integrated HD camera that pans 360 degree from remote control, systematic sweeps using 1 hunter/1 dog method to eradicate pigs from a fenced area; and weed control technologies including “HBT” herbicide ballistic technology (using a paintball gun to shoot herbicide filled pellets at target species from a helicopter), and controlling large species like conifers in remote areas via helicopter using a longline and very small herbicide cocktail with zero non target impact, with a helicopter pilot as the contractor and minimal TNC involvement

Specific Maui threat abatement project such as getting to ZERO pigs in a 9000 area – process, strategies, adaptive mgmt., or weed control strategy for a highly invasive species like Himalayan ginger that forms monotypic stands and threatens to take over the entire watershed
