Discrete Subjects: Literacy & English – We will be learning how to take turns when we talk and listen. We will consolidate our phonic knowledge and introduce initial consonant blends. We will consolidate sentence punctuation and will introduce using a simple conjunction to join sentences. We will develop our writing skills across a range of purposes for writing focusing on using descriptive language such as adjectives. Numeracy- We will consolidate our knowledge of numbers to 100. We will begin to develop a range of mental strategies as we learn to add 2 numbers. We will become more confident in counting forwards and backwards from different starting points. Maths -We will be learning about different types of measure using non-standard units. We will be able to compare and estimate. RE- We will learn to say prayers respectfully. We will learn about Advent and the meaning of Christmas. HWB- We will participate in Anti-Bullying Week, Road Safety Week and Universal Children’s Day. We will focus on the Being Kind to Others and Keeping Myself Safe. PE- We will develop our skills in throwing, catching, jumping, skipping and balancing and will use these in fun activities and team games. We will also focus on Scottish Country Dancing Skills. Spanish – We will improve and apply our Spanish vocabulary to everyday life in the classroom including classroom commands, greetings and numbers. Ethos and Wider Life of the School: At Holy Cross we are very proud of the many ways that we help other people, develop our awareness of the world and learn to be responsible citizens. In P2 we’ll have the opportunity to: *Participate in Mass at school and learn to pray. *Develop good relationships. *Learn about the importance of pupil voice. *Participate in weekly assemblies. *Participate in pupil groups *Learn about our rights as we work towards the Gold Level RRSA. *Build Resilience – Be Kind to Others *Building links with Trinity House Interdisciplinary Learning: We will be focussing on a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) project linked to Geography. Our chosen country is Malaysia. Literacy – I can use adjectives to describe animals and habitats Science and technology – I can explore a range of materials selecting an appropriate material to make a stable construction. I can explore living things and how they have adapted to different climates. Maths – I can use my knowledge of 3-D shapes and measure to make a model. Expressive Arts – I can explore of materials using colour, line and texture to create a range of pieces inspired by our topic. Planned Opportunities for Wider Achievement: As well as getting the chance to learn in lots of different ways by making, saying, writing and doing, we’ll also get the chance to learn through different experiences. We will participate in: Gold Medal Award and Values certificate House Points Owl Tokens for following the playground charter Outdoor learning including the Daily Mile Nativity and Christmas Service Outright Campaign (Global citizenship) We will share achievements from after school clubs Sharing our learning with the rest of the school ..
