Presentation Skills– Level 2

Name:

Hi!

We are almost at the finish line!

If you remember, there are 7 units we do on the programme: Planning for personal development, Team Work Skills, Community Project, Work Experience, Career Planning,

Supporting Other People and Presentation Skills. You have covered a lot for the first 6 units now, and it won’t take much to do all of the work for those. The Presentation Skills unit is the last one – it’s what we would have used to get ready for our celebration event on April 17th! So originally we would have worked together to cover a lot of these tasks – and because of that I am going to help you so that you are not doing it on your own this time.

Normally you would be part of planning the whole thing, and then only speak for up to 5 minutes as we would be delivering as a group – which actually isn’t that long. So don’t panic – this is definitely achievable. You’ll also be doing this online and speaking via Zoom, Skype, Whatsapp, video or audio clip because of the lockdown, so you don’t have to be in front of a large live audience. This will help as you won’t be as nervous!

You can choose:

EITHER do a subject entirely of your own choice. It can be a presentation to get you a dream job, or about a hobby, a diary of your experiences in lockdown, a cause or project you care about, a demonstration of something you have learned. I might do something about the history of fell running and why I run / what I do. Or I could do a presentation about a 1,000 mile motorbike ride I did for charity around Scotland – plenty of anecdotes and photos there! Remember you are going to educate, inform and hopefully entertain your audience.

OR you can do a presentation on the Prince’s Trust Team itself – and basically do what we would have done on April 17th. Explain why you joined, what you did throughout, your best memories and what you got out of it, why Team 15 is unusual at this moment in time, and what you will do next. It’s up to you.

Here’s the Learning Objectives for this unit –

1. Understand the purpose of presentations2. Be able to prepare for a presentation3. Be able to deliver a presentation4. Be able to review own presentation skills

Not sure what to do it on?

Talk to Annette or Wade. We can help.

Let’s get started!

Introduction.

Watch the following clips, as they will give you lots of ideas and many of the answers you are going to need!

Understand the purpose of presentations:

Task 1.2 Explain the reasons for using presentations:

Example: People can listen and ask questions straight away, which is better than just reading a report on paper.

1.3 Describe the features of an effective presentation:

Example: The presenter is well prepared and knows what they are talking about.

2.2 Explain the choice of topic

I have chosen this because:

2.3 Describe the main points to be made:

(This is just an outline – you aren’t writing the script at the moment!)

Now imagine that the event on April 17th – in the Lecture Theatre at the City Campus – had gone ahead as planned. What would we have needed to make it a great presentation event?

Task 2.4 – Identify resources needed for the presentation:

Task 2.5 Prepare a visual resource that will enhance the audience’s understanding of the presentation.

This can be a powerpoint / Slides presentation OR a handout which you would give to your audience. You can email it to Annette, upload to Google Classroom or video yourself using it in your presentation. Space left here to cut and paste / insert if you wish.

Be able to deliver a presentation.

Advice:

Obviously this is tricky as we are all in lockdown, and it isn’t your fault!

Once I have got your VISUAL resource for 2.5, the actual evidence I need is that you have prepared a script in some way (I have made a simple writing from for you at the end of this

booklet if that helps – but you do not have to use it!), and that you then present / read this out to me. It would be great if this could be recorded – and there’s lots of ways to do that, but at this point even doing this over the phone will do! I will then ask you questions so you need to be ready to answer them, and then I will give you feedback. Simples!

Task 3.1 – Give a presentation.

Write your script for your speech / presentation here. Remember it does not have to be longer than 5 minutes, but for level 2 it needs to be at least 3 minutes. If you need help there is a writing frame at the end of the booklet:

Task 3.2 Respond to questions from the audience:

What was I asked? My reply:

Be able to review own presentation skills.Last bit!

4.1 Evaluate the presentation taking into account what went well and making suggestions for what could be improved:

Task 4.2 Explain what skills you have developed by giving a presentation.

What went well – and why!

Even better if……

Insert a photo here of you “doing your presentation.” You will be looking smart, intelligent and brilliant here. Obviously!

CONGRATULATIONS on completing this version of the unit!

I am very proud of you!

We then were setting up our Work Experience placements. Let me tell you about mine and what happened…

Then of course the Coronavirus and the lockdown happened. This affected the Team in many ways, because

However we were able to complete our work, because
