B IBLE STUDY

9 .0 0 A.M. - 9 .4 5 A.M.

Theme: In The Name Of Jesus ChristSub-Theme: The Humanity Of Christ (3)Topic: His NativityTexts: Matt. 2:1-12; John 7:42Aim: To show the nativity of Christ as a further proof

of His being a child having an earthly history.

Introduction: The nativity of Jesus Christ is the basis of our celebration of Christmas today. Two of the Gospels, Matthew and Luke give the account of His conception and birth. Even though the accounts differ, they both agree that Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, during the reign of King Herod; His mother was married to a man named Joseph who was descended from King David and was not His biological father, and that His birth was by a divine arrangement.

Study Guide/Questions:1. In your own words, describe what you understand by the

term “Christ’s Nativity.”2. From the key text of this study, and Jerusalem Pilgrimage

experiences (if any), how may you convince somebody about the nativity of Christ?

3. What do the following passages teach about the nativity of Christ? Micah 5:2; Matt. 2:1-6; 13-18 (John 7:42)

4. Discuss what we can learn from the nativity of Christ and how it can strengthen our faith. Phil 2:5-7.

Conclusion: The Scripture is so clear about the nativity of Christ. Names of cities and other details have been given for any doubter to see and believe. Let us build our confidence in this Man who left His throne above for the sake of our sinful and lost world.

Food For Thought: Mysterious! ‘The Immortal’ was born by man.

Memory Verse: John 7:42 “Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from the seed of David and from the town of Bethlehem, where David was?”

time;I have a future in heaven for sure there in those mansions sublime. And it’s because of that wonderful day, when at the cross I believed;Riches eternal and blessings supernal, from His precious

THE KINGDOM AND THE LORD’S SUPPER

“….Jesus took the Bread, and blessed, and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, “Take, eat: this is my body.” And He took a cup, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying “Drink of it, all of you; for this is my blood of the covenant which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.” Matt. 26:26-28

We thank God that we are key-in and catching up with what it means and what it entails to be a citizen of His Kingdom.

Our sub-topic from the broad theme, “Kingdom Manifestation” for this week is, “The Kingdom and the Lord’s Supper”. Any time when we hear or when it is mentioned, the “Lord Supper”, what quickly cross our minds is the body and blood of Jesus which He commanded us to be receiving till He comes the second time in remembrance of His death and resurrection.

What is the Lord supper all about for our Kingdom manifestation. This is one out of the two important sacraments ordained by Christ for His Church. i.e Baptism and the Lord Supper. These were prominently recorded in the three synoptic gospels. i.e Matthew, Mark and Luke.

What the Lord supper is all about for our Kingdom manifestation is more than eating and drinking the body and blood of Christ. By way of digression, let us update our understanding of many other names given to the Lord supper for our references to help us use them at appropriate time. These includes:

1. The Holy Eucharist (It is Anglicized form)2. The Thanksgiving3. The Breaking of Bread4. The Communion5. The Oblation6. The Mass (Common name among the Roman Catholic

Church)7. The Sacrament of the Altar (Common among the Lutheran

Churches)8. The Memorial Service (The Calvinist Church) 9. The Mysteries.

Paul the Apostle of Christ specifically refers to its institution by Christ in 1 Cor. 11:23ff. The legend made us understood that the institution of the Lord Supper was prefigured in the Old Testament by the Passover meal as we have it in Exodus 12:21-28; 1 Cor. 5:7-8. Jesus came to the world to concretize good intention of God for His children during the Passover time while He loosed them from the bondage of Egyptians of their days.

Jesus therefore commanded that it must be observed until His second Advent. It was mandated as part of the requirements of an earnest self-examination as one partakes of the bread and of the wine. We learnt that the early Church faithful practices this ordinance, i.e Sacrament at every frequent intervals. Acts 2:42 and 20:7.

During the preparation of candidates for the rite of confirmation, for the bishop’s laying of hands, in our 1662 book of common prayer, the

catechism stated, “What are the benefits whereof we are partakers thereby”? There candidates then respond, “The strengthening and refreshing of our souls by the Body and Blood of Christ, as our bodies are by the Bread and Wine.”

The other pertinent question that follow this says “What is required of them who come to the Lord Supper? Then the response goes thus, “To examine themselves, whether they repent them truly of their former sins, steadfastly purposing to lead a new life: have a lively faith in God’s mercy through Christ with a thankful remembrance of His death; and be in charity with all men.”

The clause behind partaking in the Sacrament is that only the believers are permitted by the Scripture to partake of the Lord supper. The Bible warned us that unworthy partakers are those who do not truly repent and do not discern Christ body.

As candidates, as members of the Citizens of the Kingdom, eagerly waiting and watching for the second coming of Jesus, we were called upon and warned to repent of all our sins. Failure to forsake your sinful ways, the Bible tells us that those who partake in it are said to be guilty of His shed blood and broken body and will be judged for their sins. 1 Cor. 11:27-30.

Today many Christians that partake in it are guilty of profaning the body and blood of the Lord. Many, as Paul admonishes us, does not examine themselves. The end result is that people are weak and ill. We can see in the church of God, the dullness of hearts. Many so called – Christians do major on minor aspect of the Kingdom of God and all its righteousness.

The soul winning duty has been replaced with administrative bottle-neck and tradition of their so called church. For instance, “how much was realized last Sunday was their first point of contact as they pick the bulletin. How much was spent on that project executed dominates the half of the hours spent during meeting than the time spent on Spiritual matters.

This is the time to look back at the reasons why we are Christian. We need to forsake sins that distance us and at the same time disrupts our attention from focusing at the Kingdom of God. There are still room for us to have a change of hearts and attitudes. The word of God admonishes us …”forwhy will you die, O house of Israel.” Ezk. 33:11. Let us be reminded as you set out to take the body and blood of Christ, that unworthy hearts are those who do not truly repent and discern Christ’s body and blood. Such people are eating and drinking it to the condemnation of their souls.

It is my prayer that we will not fall sick after eating and drinking the body and blood of Christ. It is my prayer that it will be a source of leaking therapy for all our ailing souls and bodies. It will rejuvenate, re invigorate, re-energize us as long as we live.

Remain Blessed.
