1 Installation and Configuration

OverviewThe web router application provides a direct-to-router interface solution. Using standard web browsers, it allows you to perform certain control panel functions for Panacea routers and Edge protocol gateways that have an enhanced resource module installed. The enabling software is purchased as a separate flash module; to become operable, it requires the presence of an enhanced resource module.

The web router application flash module is available for retrofit into non-web enabled Panacea or Edge frames. Web-enabled frames have the flash module already installed.

Only P-RES-H version 3.16 or higher (version 3.25 or higher for status panels) modules with licensed web protocols, used in conjunction with Navigator v. 4.5 or higher, or RouterMapper version 6.05 or higher, support the web router application download properly.

Note: The web router application is not designed to be real-time. All possible care has been applied to reach the maximum responsiveness for all web access; however, several activities may reduce the responsiveness of the web interface. See page 7 for more information.

Equipment You Need Web interface flash module or web-enabled Panacea or Edge frame

Personal computer

File transfer protocol (FTP) software installed on PC

A network-enabled system setup usually has some version of FTP client software installed. Refer to your operating system documentation for instructions on how to perform the file transfer function for your particular setup. Alternatively, you can download or purchase third-party FTP software.

Pre-Installation ChecklistBefore you install and/or configure web interface flash modules:

1 Check the equipment for any visible damage that may have occurred during transit.

Page 12: Web Router Applications - Imagine · PDF fileEdition E Delivering the Moment Installation, Configuration, and Operation Manual Panacea™ Web Router Edge Web Router P-WEB MAN February

2 Confirm that all items listed on the packing list have been received.

3 Remove the anti-static shipping pouch and all other packaging material.

4 Keep the original packaging in case a product needs to be returned for service or shipped to another location.

5 Check the PC to make sure that FTP client software is installed, and that you know how to use the software correctly.

6 Make sure your frame has already been set up with a valid IP address on your intranet or local area network. (If necessary, see the pertinent installation and frame configuration manual for more information on how to perform this function.)

Installation and Configuration

Installing the Flash Module

Note: Web-enabled frames already have the flash module installed. If you have a web-enabled frame, skip to Modifying the Configuration File on page 3.

1 Unplug the frame so that it does not receive electrical power.

2 Unscrew the screws on the front of the front panel. (The screws in the front panel are captive. Do not separate them from the front panel.)

3 Tilt the panel cover down so that the flash module is visible.

Figure 1-1 Flash Module Location

4 Press the two small tabs on the sides of the flash module out (see Figure 1-1), until the resource module pops up.

Figure 1-2 Flash Module Ready for Removal

5 Pull out the existing flash module and set it aside.

6 Insert the new flash module into the card insert on the frame front cover.

7 Align the reassembled front module with the frame body.

8 Tighten the screws on the front of the panel. As you tighten the screws, the front module is pulled tight to the frame body.

9 Reapply power to the frame, and verify that the frame operates correctly.

Modifying the Configuration File

CAUTIONRestrict all user access to any frame during the FTP file transfer process. If desired, you can use the terminal command SET APACHESTOP; however, a frame reboot is needed to restart the Apache web server.

If you are not using RouterMapper configuration utility software, you must follow the steps listed below to modify the Apache configuration file. Manual configuration is not necessary if you using RouterMapper, since the software configures the Apache file automatically.

1 Use an FTP program to copy the Apache™1 configuration file devfs:/apache/conf/httpd.conf from the flash module to your local PC fixed disk drive.

2 Open the Apache configuration file with any standard text editor.

3 Two different locations specify the IP address of your frame: one is at or near line 63 of the configuration file, and the other is at or near line 97.

The first frame IP address specification (at or near line 63) looks similar to the following file text information. Change the IP address listed (Listen 192.168.127.30:80) to match your frame’s IP address.

Note: The “:80” at the end of the IP address specifies the standard web port number. Change this number only if you want the web server to monitor a different port then the standard one.

# Listen: Allows you to bind Apache to specific IP

# addresses and/or ports, instead of the default. See

# also the <VirtualHost> directive.

#

# Change this to Listen on specific IP addresses as

# shown below to prevent Apache from glomming onto all

# bound IP addresses (0.0.0.0)

Listen 192.168.127.30:80

The second frame IP address specification (at or near line 97) looks similar to the following file text information. Change the IP address listed (ServerName 192.168.127.30:80) to match your frame’s IP address.

# ServerName gives the name and port that the server uses# to identify itself. This can often be determined# automatically, but we recommend you specify it explicitly# to prevent problems during startup.

#

# If this is not set to valid DNS name for your host,# server-generated redirections will not work. See also the# UseCanonicalName directive.

#

# If your host doesn't have a registered DNS name, enter# its IP address here. You will have to access it by its# address anyway, and this will make redirections work in a# sensible way.

#

ServerName 192.168.127.30:80

4 You have the option of changing the administrator E-mail address that is displayed whenever an invalid web page is requested or a server error occurs. The administrator E-mail address specification (at or near line 83) looks similar to the following file text information. Change the administrator e-mail address (ServerAdmin [email protected]) to match the desired system administrator e-mail address.

# ServerAdmin: Your address, where problems with the server# should be e-mailed. This address appears on some server-# generated pages, such as error documents. for example# [email protected]#

ServerAdmin [email protected]

Completing the Process1 Save the file.

2 Use an FTP program to copy the updated configuration file to the same location that you retrieved it from.

3 Reboot the frame through a serial terminal or telnet session (enter the Reboot command at the system prompt)

Note: As soon as possible, change the default administrator user name and password to something more meaningful for your organization.

4 When the frame boots up, you should be able to sign in using the default administrator user name and password:

User: leitchPassword: leitchadmin

5 In the web router application, set up an administrator group with Group 1 access rights (see Setting Up User Groups on page 46), and then delete the “leitch/leitchadmin” user name and password.

2 Basic Operations

Overview The types of operations you can perform via the Web router application depend on the assignments made by your system administrator. All users can perform the basic operations described in this chapter. Advanced users can perform the operations described in Chapter 3. Only system administrators can perform the operations described in Chapter 4. If you want to be able to perform advanced operations, please ask your system administrator to change your user and/or group rights.

Note: The web router application is not designed to be real-time. All possible care has been applied to reach the maximum responsiveness for all web access; however, several activities may reduce the responsiveness of the web interface. See page 7 for more information.

Web Router ResponsivenessThe web router application is not designed to be real-time. All possible care has been applied to reach the maximum responsiveness for all web access; however, several activities may reduce the responsiveness of the web interface. Keep the following points in mind while using the web router application:

High network traffic can delay Ethernet packets being sent to or from the frame.

Internet connections may not be responsive due to the standard delays incurred using that medium. Where possible, configure the frames to reside on an intranet or local area network for maximum responsiveness.

The web interface is assigned the lowest system communications priority. This means that other communication devices such as X-Y, serial, virtual X-Y, and Telnet are serviced before the web interface. The web interface becomes less responsive with a greater number of communication ports open on a frame..

The web panels allow automatic status update intervals to be enabled. The number of auto-update panels enabled should be limited, or the interval delays increased, to allow maximum web response times. This varies from system to system, based on frame configuration and number of communication ports being serviced.

In very large systems that carry high communications volume, spread the web access points across several frames to prevent a bottleneck of the web communications.

During frame configuration or FTP file access, the web interface should not be used. Some of the files being accessed during configuration may be needed by the web interface.

3 Advanced Operations

Overview The types of operations you can perform via the Web router application depend on the assignments made by your system administrator. All users can perform the basic operations described in Chapter 2. Advanced users can perform the operations described in this chapter. Only system administrators can perform the operations described in Chapter 4. If you want to be able to perform system administrator operations, please ask your system administrator to change your user and/or group rights.

Note: The web router application is not designed to be real-time. All possible care has been applied to reach the maximum responsiveness for all web access; however, several activities may reduce the responsiveness of the web interface. See page 7 for more information.

Setting Up Panel Configuration ParametersYou can change control panel configurations directly1, via the panel configuration tool, or via Navigator or RouterMapper configuration utility software.

Setting Up Numeric and Status Configuration Parameters via Web Router Application

Note: Any changes made via this window affect the default panel only. To set up multiple panels of the same type, or to select a different default panel, you make use Navigator or RouterMapper.

In the example shown in Figure 3-1, the available active switching levels are L0 and L1. The check boxes for the other switching levels are “greyed” out and are not available for selection. The available status levels are L0 and L1; the radio buttons for the other status levels are “greyed” out and not available for selection.

1 Panel configuration parameter changes for index panels can be made only in Navigator or RouterMap-per.

Setting Up Numeric, Index, and Status Panel Configuration Parameters via Configuration Utility Software

Note: This section presupposes that you have a working knowledge of either Navigator or RouterMapper configuration utility software and have used the software’s other capabilities. If not, please refer to the appropriate configuration utility reference guide to familiarize yourself with its functions before you continue the Add process.

The information below provides you the different methods by which you can add devices to a configuration utility software database. It does not go into detail about any of these methods or about other aspects of editing a device. For more information on editing web router application devices, please refer to the appropriate configuration utility reference guide.

Only P-RES-H version 3.16 or higher (version 3.25 or higher for status panels) modules with licensed web protocols, used in conjunction with Navigator v. 4.5 or higher, or RouterMapper version 6.05 or higher, support the web router application.

To configure a web router application for a Panacea or an Edge device, you must use Navigator v.4.5 or higher, RouterMapper v.6.04 or higher.

Adding Web Router Application Devices

Adding by PollingThe Poll option is used to query the control system for any programmable devices that may be present in the system. Polling obtains information about the current configuration of each physical device, and compares it to the information found in the database to determine if the database information matches the actual configuration.

Adding by DiscoveringThe Discovery option is a quick way to allow configuration utility software to search the control system for any programmable devices that may be present in the system. Unlike the Polling option, the Discovery option does not obtain information about current configurations; however, it allows you to select discovered devices to add to the device list. You can then use the software’s editing capabilities to configure the device.

Adding Using the Add CommandAn alternative to polling the system for, or discovering, devices is to create the device definitions via the software’s Add function. The new device is assigned the next available ID, and the default source, destination and (in the case of control panels) function key mappings.

To prevent losing entries, specify an automatic event log backup. (For faster system operation, do no set the system to auto-save unless it is absolutely necessary.)

You can set up time duration for the web router application to back up the System Events Log to a text file.

To set up automatic backup options for the System Events Log, follow these steps:

1 At the Web Router menu page, click on the Logging button.

The Events Log Options page opens.(See Figure 4-9 on page 51.)

2 If you want to clear the entries out of the existing Events Log after it is saved, leave the check mark in the Clear Event Log check box. If not, click on the check box to clear it.

3 From the Backup Interval drop-down list box, select how often you want the backup to take place.

4 Click on the Configure button.

5 A message appears that tells what changes were made the current settings.

6 The Event Log Options page opens.

Click Home to return to the Web Router menu page.

A Configuring Web Router Application Devices

Overview To successfully use the web router application, an Ethernet connection is required between a Panacea or Edge device and a PC running either Navigator or RouterMapper configuration utility software. The web router application does not operate via a serial connection. Before you can configure web panels or add web users, you must add either a Panacea router or an Edge protocol gateway device.

Note: If you have a Panacea or Edge device already set up in a Navigator or RouterMapper database, you do not need to re-add it. You can access the Web Panels and Web Users tabs via the software’s editing function.

Before You Begin Setting Up Web Panels or UsersAfter you save any additions or changes to web panel or user information, you must perform a download. When a download is performed, a file containing the user information is downloaded, along with the other PWeb files, to the web-enabled frame. This file overwrites the file that is already resident on the frame. If you do not want to overwrite existing information, poll the appropriate web-enabled device BEFORE making any additions or changes. When you poll a web-enabled device, the configuration utility software merges the information from the frame with corresponding information (if any) currently listed. One of these scenarios takes place:

If a user exists on the frame and in the configuration utility software list, the poll updates user information in the list with the values from the frame.

If a user exists on the frame but does not exist in the configuration utility software list, the user information is added to the list. An asterisk in front of the user name signifies the user information is from the frame.

If a user is deleted from the frame but is still listed in the configuration utility software, that user is deleted.

Configuring Web PanelsThe web router application allows you to set up virtual (or “web”) panels that have the same characteristics as equivalent Harris hardware panels. These web panels can be customized to allow the system administrator to control the types of functions available to individual web users. For example, the system administrator can assign different access rights, accessible levels, destination offsets, destinations, and sources, to two different users of the same panel.

B Restoring P-RES-H from the Bootloader Menu

Note: The procedures contained in this document should be used to restore any P- RES-H Device (PANACEA Routers, EDGE, RCP-IDe, "Harris" brand RCP- ABAe panels) from Bootloader Menu back into Application Mode.

If restoring an EDGE:

a Set all DIP Switches on the inside front panel to OFF (or down) before commencing)

b Ensure the .out files and SNMP.out files are all based off the same Panacea.gz build

To complete this procedure, the P-RES-H device frame will need to be configured with a valid Ethernet address. If the frame is not on the network, you will need to configure its IP settings, and connect the frame to the network or to the PC directly via a crossover cable. Examples in this procedure assume the frame and PC are configured to use the default frame IP address (192.168.100.250).

Steps to restore a P-RES-H device1 Copy the P-RES-H upgrade files to a local directory on your PC (e.g. C:\P-RES-H)

2 Establish a Terminal session with the frame using Telnet.

From the PC, launch Command Prompt (Start > Run > Type cmd and select OK).

3 At the MS-DOS prompt, type the following commands (hit ENTER after each line) to change drive and the directory to the location where your upgrade files are located (substitute drive name and the location to match your file locations as necessary).

cd\cd p-res-h

4 Telnet into the unit (hit ENTER after each line):

telnet 192.168.100.250

5 At the Telnet login prompt, enter the user name and password (hit ENTER after each line):
