Subject: Web Conferencing Programs

This morning when you approached me you asked me to do some research in regards to web conferencing programs. The reason you gave was that you wanted to go in a different direction with how the department handles weekly meetings. Through my research I found multiple web conferencing programs that the department could use. However a couple of the programs stuck out. Mconf and Infinite Conferencing are the two programs that I found to be the best fit. Below is an outline of the two programs.

Mconf is open source which is why this program grabbed my attention. This means that the software is free to use so there would be no cost involved. According to"Mconf"(2010-2013), the program has the following features: a web portal that provides access to web conferences, shared documents, spaces and more.

a load balancer that allows the system to scale to thousands of users.

a web conference system that is powered by BigBlueButton.

a mobile web conference client. It is developed in the research group PRAV at UFRGS (Brazil), and funded by RNP. offers technical support via a mailing list.Infinite Conferencing however is a better fit for the company as there are more features available. Infinite Conferencing does come with a fee should you decide that the program is a good fit. What Infinite offers before payment is requested is a free ten day trial. Some key features of the program also work with software that we currently use. According to"Infinite"(2014), below are the key features of the program:

>Supports up to 1000 participants

>Public and private chat >Desktop/application sharing

>Instant polling>One-click publishing of Microsoft

>File transfer >PowerPoint,Word or Excel files

>128-bit AES Encryption over SSL (option)>Control passing

>Fully customizable session settings>Web tours

>Web-based access>No advance reservation required

>Microsoft Outlook integration>File transfers, slide annotations & more

>Password protection>Record & playback

>Firewall and proxy server friendlyThe last feature that comes with Infinite Conferencing is there is twenty-four hour support seven days a week via phone and live chat during regular business hours.

Between the two programs I found that there was more being offered through Infinite Conferencing than there was from Mconf and this is why I feel that we should use Infinite Conferencing for the weekly meetings.

Please let me know if you have any questions regards to these two programs.

Thanks,

Alan McKinney
