WHAT IS WEB 2.0?

The concept of Web 2.0 was first presented at a brainstorming session between O’Reilly and MediaLive International. They basically went through the Internet and the changes it was going through and all the new applications and sites and decided to call this turning point “Web 2.0”.

Web 2.0 is the use of the Internet as a two-way-medium, that is where content is not taken in but also created

These list are not even half the websites listed in the article by Brian Benzinger, but it gives a reader an idea of what is available on the web today. There are many different websites that are basically the same, but run a little different and it is up to the learner to figure out which website works better for them.

ABOUT CROWSBy John Ciardi

The old crow is getting slow;

The young crow is not.

Of what the young crow does not know,

The old crow knows a lot.

At knowing things, the old crow is still the young crow’s master.

What does the old crow not know?

How to go faster.

The young crow flies above, below, and rings around the slow old crow.

What does the fast young crow not know?

WHERE TO GO.

This is one of Steve’s favorite poems now, because to him he compares it to the situation with teaching today. The older teachers are not aware of these new techniques and most are scared to learn new styles. The newer teachers are familiar with these new techniques and implementing these styles into their teaching. So it is up to the schools to teach their staff and keep them informed.

QUOTE BY STEVE HARGADON Normally I would say, “Web

2.0 is the future of education,” and while I harbor a hope that will be true, I think it might be more accurate to say that “Web 2.0 will be a significant part of the future of learning,” and that in the best case scenario it will become an important part of our formal educational institutions.

MY OPINION….

I chose this quote because I agree that Web 2.0 is not the future but it is going to be a very significant role in my teaching experience. In the future.

MY CONCLUSION…

This class and this assignment researching what Web 2.0 is exactly and what it is made of, has really opened up my eyes on all the new tools out there. It was confusing at first, but after awhile I got the hang of it and I am sure with practice and continuing my research and keeping up-to-date with the technologies.
