Sarah Knute 6 th Grade Writing Teacher ADM Middle School 801 Nile Kinnick Dr. S. Adel, IA 50003 (515) 9933490 Miss Taylor Weaver successfully completed her student teaching in the sixthgrade Written Language classroom at ADM Middle School, part of the Adel DeSoto Minburn School District. Taylor was responsible for teaching Written Language to one hundred twenty seven students with a wide range of abilities, including students with behavior plans, academic modifications, and accelerated needs. Taylor created a variety of lesson plans. She used the Common Core Curriculum standards to prepare lessons that motivated students. Taylor created a character sketch unit using a variety of resources, including teacher collaboration, to carefully plan and meet the needs of her students. She incorporated several different types of writing activities, exercises, and strategies that were motivating and geared to the students’ level of understanding. Taylor demonstrated understanding in planning and instructing Written Language as part of the Writer’s Workshop framework. During her character sketch unit, lessons incorporated all areas of the writing process. She gathered mentor texts, allowing students to experience a good representation of the particular writing they would be expected to do. Taylor immersed students in the mentor texts, as they read and closely studied the particular writing genre. She created daily minilesons associated with the process of the study in which students were engaged. High expectations were set as students finished a piece of writing that demonstrated the influence of the study. The use of anecdotal notes from daily oneonone conferences were used to assess students’ needs and skills and drive further instruction. Taylor also used evidence of drafting, revising and editing, and students’ final products to assess their overall grade for the unit of study. Taylor was involved in team meetings daily with the sixth grade teachers. These meetings involved planning, engaging in a professional book study, addressing student concerns and celebrations, and sharing technologyrelated ideas and issues. She also experienced Professional Learning Community discussions that involved developing and revising units aligned with the Common Core. In summary, Taylor Weaver has excellent qualities and abilities that will ensure a successful career in education. She is dependable, motivated, and in tune with the needs of her students. Taylor will be an asset to any elementary or middle school. I highly recommend Taylor for a position as an elementary or middle school teacher.
