Step 1: Warm Up! Are you contracted with all the top Medicare Advantage carriers in your area? Schedule a contract review with your regional marketer and make sure you are ready to offer everything a client may ask for. Don’t forget about cross-selling! Ancillary products can save your clients money. Step 2: Preliminary Trials! AHIP or Gorman – which do you need? Log in and check our carriers page to find training requirements. These exams are generally fee-based, however, some carriers will offer a discount. Additionally, you will only need to take the AHIP exam one time as it is transferable across carriers. This is an “open book” test, but AHIP has a two-hour time limit. You need a 90% to pass AHIP or Gorman, and you only get three attempts, so take your time and get rid of the distractions. Step 3: Qualifying Round! Compliance done, now onto product certifications. It takes some carriers 24-48 hours for product modules to be available after submitting your AHIP or Gorman results. Once you start a test there is no turning back – three strikes and you’re out for the product-selling year! Also, be aware that some carriers require face-to-face training. Step 4: Stock Up! Congratulations, you’re certified! As soon as the carrier deems you “Ready-to-Sell,” you can pre-order enrollment kits for the upcoming product year. These kits generally aren’t shipped out to agents until October 1, but you will want to get your order in early. Not sure how to place an order? Find out on our carriers page.

Step 5: Get Strong! Be familiar with all the online tools, submission processes, phone numbers for support, the list goes on... Get all this information in advanceso you’re not scrambling at the last minute. Also, keep an eye out for emailinvitations for upcoming webinars from Ritter or the carriers.
