Seed & Grain AgronomistsOur Sales and Extension Agronomists are responsible for providing technical information and advice to key influencer’s. These are critical roles for facilitating market share growth and profitability for the company.

As an Agronomist you would liaise with retail customers, farmers, consultants, contractors and other key influencer’s, providing them with technical advice on cropping, pasture renewal and the effective use of PGG Wrightson proprietary cultivars and seed treatment products. You would also develop local demonstration sites and assist the Research team in local trials.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

• Exceptional interpersonal skills.• Strong written communication skills.

RELEVANT QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor or Masters in Agricultural Science or similar.

Research AgronomistsThere are a range of Research Agronomy roles within PGG Wrightson Seed & Grain which are critical for product development and providing active support for arable farmers.

As a Research Agronomist you would be focused on developing and evaluating new products in your area of research expertise. In particular you would work to develop the best management package to ensure that our products provide world-leading yields under NZ conditions. You’d also provide agronomic support to the company’s sales and marketing teams including active participation at field days to ensure our products are marketed accurately and effectively.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

• Be comfortable working on arable farms.• Have the ability to work both

autonomously and as part of a team.• Good communication skills. • Practical experience.• Competence in scientific trial design,

statistical analysis and scientific reporting.

RELEVANT QUALIFICATION:

• Bachelor of Agricultural Science or similar.

Trainee Arable RepresentativeThe Arable Representatives play an important role in the procurement and production of the Company’s seed and grain requirements.

In this role, you would be trained to support arable farmers in the agronomic management of their crops, recommend to them and provide them with inputs such as herbicides, fungicides and fertiliser. You would be offering growers crop contracting options and opportunities to trade in cereals and other commodities.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

• Technical skills in agronomy.• Skills in sales, communication and

interpersonal relationships.

RELEVANT QUALIFICATION:

• Tertiary level training in agricultural or horticultural science.

Cereal BreederOur Cereal Breeders ensure PGG Wrightson Grain has the most successful source of cereal cultivars for New Zealand growers and end users.

As a Cereal Breeder you would work alongside our highly respected Cereal and Research teams to create cereal cultivars with marketable advantages to achieve end user satisfaction and market share growth and profitability for the company.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

• Plant breeding, agronomy and plant science knowledge and experience.

• An eagerness to utilise your skills in a performance and commercially focused business.

• Ideally the right attributes to potentially lead a team in the future.

RELEVANT QUALIFICATION:

• PhD in a relevant field.

PGG Wrightson Seeds GraduateThis Graduate role aims to build the graduate’s knowledge and skillset across a range of areas in the business, dependent on the graduate’s skillset and qualifications, and the business’ needs whilst also assisting in the achievement of business objectives.

As the Graduate, you would work on a wide range of projects and day to day activities to support the achievement of business goals. Through doing so, you would get exposure to various parts of the business, laying the foundations for further career development within the company as relevant opportunities arise.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

• Be adaptable, diligent and have the ability to build strong relationships with a wide range of people.

• Be a quick learner, have initiative.• Capable of working autonomously when

required.

RELEVANT QUALIFICATION:

• Tertiary qualification.

Research & Development Summer CasualsSummer Casuals assist our Research & Development staff over the busy summer period across a wide range of activities.

Our Research and Development Centre is located near Lincoln where the research team breed and evaluate Forage, Cereal and Turf cultivars, evaluate new material from overseas companies, carry out animal nutrition trials and multiply seed of a wide range of crops. As a summer casual you would assist the research team to prepare and manage field trials, perform lab analyses and harvest crops.

This is the perfect opportunity to gain practical experience in the field during your summer holidays whilst also learning more about our diverse commercial business, developing relevant industry networks and considering your career options. Many of our past Summer Casuals have been successfully placed in permanent roles in the Seed & Grain business, after their graduation. There are a range of mentoring opportunities available for students interested in a future career in agricultural research and/or agronomy.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

• Be adaptable, diligent and have the ability to build strong relationships with a wide range of people.

• Eagerness to learn and have initiative.• Capable of working autonomously and as

part of a team when required.

RELEVANT QUALIFICATIONS:

• Completed high school and be studying towards a relevant tertiary qualification.

Turf Trainee Sales RepresentativeOur Turf business works with all the high profile stadiums and golf courses in New Zealand. The Turf Trainee role aims to build the foundations for a successful career as a Turf Territory Manager within our highly competitive Turf business.

As the Turf Trainee Sales Rep you would work alongside the Turf Territory Managers to learn all aspects of building and maintaining strong customer relationships and selling turf related products – pesticides, fertiliser and turf seed.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

• A passion for business development.• Customer relationship management.• Preferably some practical experience in turf

management on a sporting ground/arena.

RELEVANT QUALIFICATIONS:

• Diploma or Bachelor of Agricultural Science.

Plant Breeder GraduateThis role is integrated within our internationally respected Plant Breeding and research team and is a role that allows the graduate to develop into a Senior Plant Breeder. Our breeding programmes operate across the Southern hemisphere as well as in the USA.

As the Plant Breeder Graduate you would assist the plant breeding team in all aspects of plant breeding, whilst also beginning to develop your own plant breeding portfolio. You would identify new plants and traits that will meet the requirements of future farming systems and work with leading research teams nationally and internationally to adopt new breeding methods.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

• Agronomy and plant science knowledge and an eagerness to learn plant breeding.

• Strong understanding of current farming systems.

• Desire to work in a commercially focused business would be beneficial.

• Self-motivated and capable of working autonomously and as part of a team.

RELEVANT QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor of Agricultural Science, Bachelor of Science or similar degree (essential).

• Willingness to do further on-the-job post-graduate studies (either a MSc or PhD).

Crop Monitoring ScoutsThese roles offer great flexibility for while you’re studying, with increased hours over the summer period. Available in a number of areas throughout the country, the Crop Monitoring Scouts assist with disease and pest identification of various crops. These are casual roles and hours vary depending on the season and climatic conditions.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

• A keen interest in the Horticultural industry.• Knowledge of the specific crop is

advantageous.• The ability to work independently with

excellent attention to detail is essential.

Trainee Horticultural RepresentativeA critical part of the success of our Fruitfed Supplies business, the Technical Horticultural Representatives are responsible for advising and assisting our clients in using the right products and services to get the most out of their crops. These roles are rare, however exceptional Graduates will be considered for either immediate or Customer Service Representative (stepping stone) opportunities within the business.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

• A Bachelor of Agricultural Science majoring in Horticulture is desirable.

• A passion for sales and the wider industry.

Technical AdvisorA key component of the Technical Team from within our Retail business, these roles are research & development based, with a focus on identifying the commercial benefits of various products for our company and clients. As a Technical Advisor you conduct and assess field trials, primarily in vegetable, forage and pastoral crops and report on your findings.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

• Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders.

• Passion for research

RELEVANT QUALIFICATIONS:

• Tertiary qualification in either the Science’s or Horticulture.

Trainee Technical Field RepresentativeThese roles provide excellent opportunities to establish a career path in the agricultural sector with PGG Wrightson. All of our trainees receive training in both sales and technical aspects of the role, and gain exposure to dairy, sheep and beef, and arable farming.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

• An agricultural tertiary qualification is desirable.

• A passion for sales and the industry is essential.

Trainee Livestock Programme Launching across New Zealand in early 2016, this is a fantastic entry-level opportunity to begin your long and successful career in the agricultural sector. The programme offers paid fulltime roles, in which Trainees learn everything from sales and technical knowledge through to client management and systems, over and 18-month period.

Under the guidance and support of our highly experienced Senior Livestock Representatives, you’ll learn about our complex business through a structured programme of modules and assessments designed to provide a broad ‘generalist’ understanding and ability; you’ll also work through and complete our in-house NZQA Accredited programme to gain a National Certificate in Rural Servicing (Level 3).

• A real passion and empathy for the Stock & Station industry is critical.

• Agricultural qualification not essential.

Wool RepresentativeA Wool Representative services wool growers within a specified region, canvassing and advising them as required. You’ll assist in maintaining and improving the quality of flocks, managing them year round for optimum production, and in preparing harvested fleece for the discerning eyes of growers and processors. This is a unique and potentially rewarding career path into one of New Zealand’s most well established primary industries.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

• A tertiary level qualification is not essential however wool industry and wool production knowledge is desirable.

PGG Wrightson Real Estate ScholarshipReal estate sales is one of the few vocations which never go out of favour. No matter how the economy performs, the property market keeps on trading and, for the right person, real estate sales can be secure, enjoyable and very rewarding.

Right now, agricultural land sales are buoyant so we need fresh talent who are keen to make a career of rural realty to enter PGG Wrightson Real Estate Scholarship programme.

Our scholarship programme is designed to attract and develop new entrants to the business, offering them the best possible start in the industry, as well as capitalising on the opportunities available through our close association with the other divisions of our wider company. We also provide start-up support and in-the-field training for successful applicants, enabling them to fast-track their journey to becoming knowledgeable and professional real estate sales consultants.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

• Land & Property Management qualification is desirable, however not essential as comprehensive training is provided.

Marketing CoordinatorOur Marketing Coordinators work with a team of people to design and deliver PGG Wrightson marketing and sponsorship initiatives with the aim of promoting the brands and products in a way that supports market share and profit growth.

As a Marketing Coordinator you would work with a wide range of people both internally and externally to develop marketing and sponsorship material. We hire Marketing Coordinators as specialists to support a number of our businesses including Seed & Grain, Real Estate and Retail.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

• Exceptional interpersonal skills.• A proven eye for detail.• Aspire to work in a marketing role that

has a high degree of technical research information to incorporate into marketing activities.

• An affinity with the agricultural sector is advantageous.

RELEVANT QUALIFICATIONS:

• Tertiary qualification in either Marketing or Agriculture.
