Community Interpreting: Essential Skills and KnowledgeTutor: Justyna WilczewskaStarts: Saturday 5 May 2012, 9.30 - 3.00 pm for 12 sessions Venue: WEA Sheffield Learning Centre, 3 Vicarage Road, Sheffield S9 3RHAre you a refugee or A2/A8 EU Migrant? Are you fluent in English as well as another language spoken in South Yorkshire? Would you like to develop your interpreting skills? This course, funded by the Big Lottery through the Metropolitan Support Trust, will focus on interpreting skills, the role of the interpreter and the issues this raises and agency knowledge (e.g. health, social services, education). How do I join a course?It is usually possible to just turn up at the first meeting but we would encourage you to find out more beforehand. To do this please contact 0114 242 3609. If pre-booking is required details are given with the course information.

How much will I pay?For the majority of courses you will have to pay a fee. The fees to be paid are shown against each course or on the page where the course appears.The WEA receives public funding for the majority of its courses which supplement the fees paid by students and sponsors. For most of our courses, this funding is only available for people who are 19 or over - if they were born before 31 August 1992. If you are younger than this please contact WEA Regional Office for advice.You are entitled to FREE tuition if you are in receipt of or are dependent upon someone in receipt of:l Job Seekers’ Allowance l Employment Support Allowance in the Work Related Activity Group l Council Tax Benefit l Income Support l Housing Benefit l Working Tax Credit l Pension Guarantee Credit l Asylum SeekerHowever, a registration fee would be payable and the amount is £3.00 per course.

Are your venues easily accessible?Many of our venues have disabled access but please check with us beforehand as we can supply a portable ramp if needed. Information for most of our venues is available on the regional website.

I have difficulties with reading and writing. Can I still join a course?Yes, not only are our courses open to everyone but we can also help you to improve your reading, writing and maths.

My eyesight/hearing is poor. Can I still come along?Of course you can. Again let us know in advance and we can supply you with enlarged/Braille materials or a hearing loop if necessary.
