Tuhononga Day

During Tuhononga Days this term, a group of students chose to learn Traditional Korean fan Dance. Buchae means fan in Korean, which is very colorful with many differentpaintings. Buchaechum is famous for using these folding fans in each hand whiledancing.Buchaechum is a traditional form of Korean dance, usually performed by groups of female dancers. Many Koreans use this danceduring many celebrations. They use fans painted with pink peony flower blossomsand display a show of dance. During the dance, the dancers represent imagesusing the fans such as flowers, butterflies and waves. A huge thank you to Paran Jung and Nicola Fitzgerald for sharing their knowledge with this group of students and seeking expertise from Angela Lee who lives locally in Forrest Hill.

Here are some photos taken on the second day of Tuhononga Day last week. We look forward to many more Korean Dance performances.

As we celebrate the many cultures that make up our school community, our aim is to establish a range of cultural groups within our school where students can experience a range of traditional dance and culture.

If you are interested in sharing your knowledge and would like to support a cultural group, please send an email to Angela White : [email protected] as she would love to hear from you. The opportunities are endless!

Room 4 Newsletter Contribution

In Room 4 we have been writing persuasive letters. Do you think single use plastic bags should be banned?

Plastic Bags Cause Harm!

Dear Pak n Save

Did you know in the Pacific Ocean there is a vast, swirling mass called the Pacific Garbage Patch that contains over 100,000,000 tons of plastic debris? I strongly believe that Pak n Save should ban single use plastic bags in all their supermarkets to help reduce plastic bags ending up in the ocean and washing up on our beaches. It is true that plastic is a strong material but it never decomposes! Instead it breaks down into little pieces called microplastics. Fish eat these so they could end up in your dinner plate!!!

Bigger marine creatures such as albatrosses and sea turtles eat them too! For example an albatross might feed plastic to its chicks and turtles mistake plastic bags for jellyfish! In addition, ghost fishing is harming even the biggest animals like whales, sharks and coral! An estimated 640,000 tons of fishing equipment become ghost (abandoned) gear every year! I am worried that the beautiful oceans will evolve into massive, grey, plastic dumpsters because humans are throwing away too much plastic! Therefore, I urge you to ban plastic bags from your supermarkets to help save the environment!Yours SincerelyHarry XuYear 4 Forrest Hill Primary School.

REDUCE PLASTIC POLLUTION

Dear The WarehouseDid you know there is over 100,000,000 pieces of plastic debris in the sea? I strongly believe that the warehouse should ban the use of single use plastic bags because the amount of pollution from plastic is increasing every year. It is true that plastic never decomposes but did you know plastic does break down into tiny little micro plastic bits that little fish and plankton eat and die. Secondly floating plastic bags look like jellyfish in the ocean that turtles eat and choke on. I strongly believe the only way to reduce the plastic pollution is to ban single use plastic bags. Yours SincerelyCoby Gardineryear 4 Room 4Forrest Hill school
