Dear Parishioners,

Two weeks ago you may have noticed the arrival of trucks and materials in the small schoolyard to begin the second phase of our parish project in renovating the Green Room with a new stage, storage area for tables and chairs, new lighting and flooring, a kitchenette and much more. How

thankful we are for the success last year with the installation of air-conditioning in both the Green Room and the White Room. This summer it has been beneficial to everyone.

In this second project the demolition of the old stage and removal of debris from behind the stage was a big task but completed quickly the first week. See below some photos of what was and what has happened in the Green Room.

This week construction of the new stage has begun and before long we look forward to putting the finishing touches on a newly renovated assembly place for everyone to enjoy.

This parish project is happening because of your generosity to the diocesan capital campaign, “Generations of Faith” three years ago. Many pledges were received and everyone has been considerate in keeping to their pledges and payments. Thank you!

Since this is a five year capital campaign new gifts are welcome at any time. If you were unable to pledge in this past or you are a new member of Our Lady of the Snows Parish, prayerfully consider lending a hand to our diocese and parish by making a pledge. Every gift is greatly appreciated. I have printed the Generations of Faith pledge card in today’s bulletin and you may return it to the Parish Office with your initial payment. Also, pledge cards and brochures are on the tables in the Gathering Space. If you have any questions about your pledge please feel free to call me.

What great things can happen when we come together and make a sacrificial offering for the good of the Church and the parish we love so much. Let us look forward to enjoying our new meeting space in the near future and for generations to come.

God bless you!

ARISE: TOGETHER IN CHRIST. Following two successful sessions of ARISE last Fall and Spring this worthwhile evangelization effort throughout the diocese and in our parish will resume in October. The third session consists of six weekly gatherings with the theme, “In the Footsteps of Christ.” Once again ARISE is guaranteed to be a total parish experience to spiritually renew everyone and provide opportunities for all of us to grow in faith and community. In preparation for ARISE this Fall please offer the ARISE prayer below and prayerfully consider your involvement as a facilitator or participant on Sign-Up weekend this Fall.

Gracious God and Father, we enter into your presence realizing you know us better than we know ourselves. You know the cares and sufferings we carry in our hearts. You call us to holiness and we trust you to lead us together on our journey to be a renewed Church, for with you all things are possible. Create us anew in Jesus Christ your Son. Liberate us from all that keeps us from you. Heal us from every form of sin and violence. Transform us to live your Word more profoundly. Awaken us to the sacred; rebuild trust among us. Enliven our parishes; reunite our families. May your Holy Spirit empower us to live as a community of love, freed to share in your work of recreating our world and restoring justice. We believe you are doing something new, calling us to arise together in Christ to celebrate the fullness of life. Amen. © 2007 RENEW International

WORLDWIDE MARRIAGE ENCOUNTER WEEKEND Sept. 15-17 in Huntington, LI. Call Richard & Karen Roginski at 877-697-9963. Let the Lord support you in your marriage!

A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRPERSON OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

OUR LADY OF THE SNOWS CATHOLIC ACADEMY

ARE YOU SMARTER THAN AN OLSCA EIGHTH GRADER? By Br. Michael Renna, OFS—Chairperson

At about this point in the summer in the majority of households with school-age children, the following phrases are frequently heard: “I’m bored!” “There’s nothing to do.” “I miss my friends.” Well, at the risk of shocking these young minds and doing irreparable harm to their psyches, there is less than a MONTH left of summer vacation till school resumes in September! That got your attention didn’t it? And while most families are dealing with shopping for those back to school necessities such as uniforms, clothing, gym attire, and supplies, we at OLSCA continue our work in getting ready to implement our Regents initiative in Math and Science this Fall.

I hope that many families have had an opportunity to visit the NYSED website at nysed.gov and view the Core Curricula in Algebra and Living Environment. These two courses, which will be offered for the first time to our “rising” eighth graders at OLSCA, are equivalent to the courses that NINTH grade students take in the first year of high school. So, our students will have the advantage of being a year ahead and will also earn Regents credit both for the course and after passing the exam at the end. You should also know that both these courses are REQUIRED in New York State for graduation from high school.

Mr. Venticinque, Ms. Estevez and I will be meeting in the very near future again with the administration at The Mary Louis Academy to finalize plans for our students to use their lab facilities and to set up mentoring partnerships between TMLA faculty and our teachers. We ask for your prayers and support as we venture forward that this will be a most successful initiative for our students! Our Lady of the Snows, pray for us, (New challenge question will appear next week).

CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL EXAM (TACHS).

The exam will be given on

Saturday, November 4th,

offering a chance to attend one of

nineteen different Catholic high

schools in Brooklyn and Queens. All eighth grade

students and their parents are asked to call

1-866-61TACHS or visit www.tachsinfo.com for

registration and more information.

AIR CONDITIONING COLLECTION is being taken up at this time. The parish is fortunate to have a cool and comfortable church to worship in Sunday after Sunday and during the week. However, as you can guess, the expense for such air conditioning in a large church is very high. YELLOW air conditioning offering envelopes are available in the church. Thank you for your contribution.
