We, the parish of Saints Mary and Mathias Catholic Church, WELCOME all to CELEBRATE, TEACH and LIVE the Mission of JESUS CHRIST

Ss. Mary & Mathias Church 215 W. 8th St. Muscatine, IA 52761

From the Pastors Desk October 20th, 2019 Many times we don’t

pray because quite frank-

ly we don’t see it making

any difference. If you

have ever felt like that,

you are not alone, you

are not the only one who has ever felt like a prayer

failure or that prayer was a waste of time. This week

in scripture we look at a dishonest judge and a persis-

tent widow. The judge who doesn’t care about any-

thing is moved by the widow’s persistence. In prayer

we should never give up; most likely one of two

things will happen to you, either God will answer

your specific prayer or God will help purify our

hearts and help us grow.

This week, let’s work on making prayer a daily hab-

it. Let’s work on finding a quiet space where we can

pray free from distractions. Let’s commit to spending

at least 10 or 15 minutes a day in prayer as we offer

God the gift of our time and, in return, receive the

priceless gift of His love poured over us.

Parish App

Did you know that we have a Parish App? On our

Parish App you will find access to our weekly bulletin,

a guide for going to Confession,

many prayers, the daily and Sunday

Scripture readings and so much

more. You will also receive im-

portant announcements about excit-

ing events taking place at Ss. Mary &

Mathias Parish. To download the

app, which is free, go to the app store on your

phone. It is available for both Android and Apple

phones. Search for “My Parish App.” You will see this

symbol.

Once you have downloaded the app,

search for our parish (Ss. Mary &

Mathias). Also, be sure to enable

receiving push notifications so that

you can receive importance an-

nouncements and keep up to date on

parish news.

Please join us 30 minutes before each Mass during the month of

October to recite the Rosary.

ALSO ! Did you know that over 25% of the U.S. Military is Cath-

olic??

Rosary makers from our parish along with the HolyLand Military

Rosary Ministry are offering beautiful colored

beaded Rosaries. These are available for a sug-

gested $5 donation and are located at the (back)

main entrance to the church. 100% of proceeds

fund Rosary supplies for our Military.

Did You Know? A Walk through the Mass: The Homily and Creed

Following the Liturgy of the Word, the priest delivers the Homily

as he expounds on the Scripture readings and how they relate to

our daily lives. At times, the Homily will offer us encouragement

and comfort. At other times, the Homily will challenge us to live

out one of the more difficult teachings of Christ. Sometimes, the

priest will touch on all of the Scripture readings in his Homily.

Other times, he will focus on one reading. The ultimate goal is to

bring the Scriptures alive in the hearts of the faithful and motivate

the flock to be more committed disciples of Jesus.

Following the Homily, the Congregation stands as we recite the

Nicene Creed. The Nicene Creed contains all that we believe as

Catholics. In the past, many Christians have died for the words

contained in the Creed. We stand as we profess the Creed to

show that these are more than spoken words. Rather, the Creed

is the profession of our faith in Christ and His Church.

LA SANTA MISA DE HOY ES EN MEMORIA DE SR. GUADALUPE NAVARRO Y FELIPA VALENCIA

Si alguna vez te has

Busque "My Parish App".
