We serve God, teach God’s Word and demonstrate Christ’s love.
March 2019
Blessings on:
Address Service Requested
Last month, we started our annual theme of the “Wonder, Beauty, and Mystery” of God by first considering how great His love for us truly is. For March, we will spend one Sunday looking at the miracles of God and how marvelous they really are. Then we go into Lent. We begin with our Ash Wednesday service at 6:30 PM on Wednesday March 6. Please join us as we consecrate ourselves with ashes during this reded-ication of service to God during Lent. As Lent progresses, we are going to forgo the “normal” practice of having a Bible or book study in addition to the morning worship. Instead of this, we will be showing 3 differ-ent movies every other Saturday at 2 PM. These cinema showings will share the same theme from the previous Sunday’s sermon. Following the movie, we will open up a discussion about the movie and theme. The movies, dates, and themes are the following: March 23rd—”Kung Fu Panda” (Theme: Expectations); April 6th— “Woodlawn” (Theme: Believe and Join Into); and April 20th— “War Room” (Theme: power of prayer). To accompany this, a 2 to 4 minute movie clip will be added to each of the 6 Sunday services during Lent. The clips will bring an addition to each of the themes for the 6 ser-
vices. Those 6 themes are: Renouncing, Expectations, Confession, Believe and Join Into, Remaining a repre-sentative, and the Power of prayer. - Pastor John Kress

CROSSMEN YOUTH
The Crossmen is our church Youth Group. It is open to kids in 4th grade thru High School. We meet every Tuesday at 5:30 PM. We also strive to do a fun activity or social project once a month. If any questions, parents can call youth director Karen or Pastor John Kress at (309)945-2648.
Tri-Church Collaboration
We have been in contact with the churches of Erie Baptist and First Baptist of Morrison to dis-cuss how we can assist one another in reaching our communities. We attempted twice to have a conversation, but each time we were halted by bad weather. We have scheduled a new meeting date for 10 AM on Saturday March 2nd here at Cordova. If you would like to attend and repre-sent FBC Cordova in the conversation, please let Pastor John know.
BREAKFAST AT THE CAFÉ
On the last Tuesday of each month we gather at 9 AM at Mississippi Café in Al-bany. There we socialize over a hot meal. We plan to convene on March 26th. Join us!
EXERCISE CLASS
Our exercise class, led by Sue King, which meets at 8:30 AM on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays will be re-convening on Mon-day March 18th. Come join the fun!
Port Byron Pantry Collection Needs
For the months of March and April we are collecting paper products. If you can assist with any of these items (or any other you may think of), please bring them by the church and place in one of our drop boxes. The drop off boxes can be located by each of the three church doorways. Praise Report:

Communion Sunday
As we gather on the first Sunday of the month to share Communion to-
gether, we are now ask-ing you to join us in
Prescott Hall instead of the sanctuary. We do not want the stairs or
steep ramp to hinder any who would desire to
partake. Therefore, the first Sunday of the month’s Service of
Communion will now be downstairs.

America for Christ Offering
2019 Throughout the month of March, we will be collecting funding for the America for Christ Offering. Your gifts to the AFC Offering im-pact thousands—through ministries with marginalized children, disaster response, pris-oner re-entry and after-care, immigration and refugee resettlement, public witness and ad-vocacy, resources that equip Christian leaders, chaplains who bring comfort to those in hos-pitals and nursing homes, and so much more. Please help us reach our church goal of $750.00! Vacation Bible School Update
Last month, the Diaconate asked the congregation what days would most people be available for helping with VBS. After receiving your input, it has been decided that Vacation Bible School will be held dur-ing the week of July 22nd—26th. We are still uncertain if this will be a full or partial week. The deacons are also looking at the various VBS materials. Once a decision has been made, we will let you. Un-til then, mark the week of July 22nd on your calendars for VBS!
Spring your clocks forward by 1 hour. Daylight Savings Begins 2 AM on Sunday March
10th!
Rex Rogers GRR Area 1 Min-ister Rex Rogers will be joining us March 24th. After worship, he would like to meet and hear from us and discuss where the Lord is leading our church.
