RODERICK JOHN MCNABEulogy by Neil McNab, Rod’s younger brother

Rod was a kind, gentle and loyal man who lovedhis family very much.

He loved Fairhaven, where we spent all our family holidays when we were growing up. The Christmas holidays were particularly joyful

with the family, friends, the beach and the surf.

In later years, Rod, Kirsty and I all married and had 2 children each, and our love of Fairhaven was passed on to the next generation.

We all shared the Christmas week at Fairhaven and survivedthose weeks as close family to tell the stories.

Rod was thorough, disciplined and committed to his family, his studies, his work and all the activities that he undertook.

He was very protective of his family and I remember in my early school days and when I first played district hockey,

he would always look out for me.

Later with his wife Cathy and their two daughters, Caitlin and Melissa, he did whatever he could for them and supported them. When the children were in primary school he encouraged their sporting activities by coaching Minkey hockey and helping to run a

Little Nippers group at Fairhaven. He always urged themto do their best and to take advantage of any opportunities

that came their way.

In school and university, he received honours in every subject that he took and that inspired me to do well at school.

After doing a science degree he moved into business, but he retained a life-long interest in science, particularly in chemistry

and physics. In work, his brilliance and thoroughness led him into the world of computers, where he thrived and

became a Global IT consultant for Exxon Mobil.

He loved his sport, especially hockey and skiing, surfing and later tennis.

With his commitment and dedication, he was a great club man and was often the team secretary at hockey and on the committee of the hockey club. He spent 10 years on the Koomerang Ski Club committee

and he managed all the Fairhaven accountsand maintenance lists for the family.

There were many wonderful aspects to Rod’s life and many ways in which he touched our lives.

He will be remembered as a wonderful brother, loving husband and father, great club man, sportsman,

team mate and work mate.

Rod, your memory will live on in our hearts forever.

A Life Well Lived

A life well lived is a precious giftOf hope and strength and grace,

From someone who has made our world A brighter, better place.

It’s filled with moments, sweet and sadWith smiles and sometimes tears

With friendships formed and good times sharedAnd laughter through the years.

A life well lived is a legacyOf joy and pride and pleasure,

A lasting, living memoryOur grateful hearts will treasure.
