A cataract is a medical condition where the eye’s natural lens which lies behind the iris and the pupil is clouded. It is the principal cause of blindness in the world.

90% of the estimated 20 million people blinded by un-treated cataracts live in lower income areas where they lack access to care.

Especially in Africa, cataracts are responsible for half of all avoidable blindness.The most common causes of cataract are, increasing age, malnutrition, lack of hygiene genetics, low socioeconomic and educational status, high sun exposure at younger age and ionizing radiation.
