While the students were at the Church they watched a DVD about the work of Angel Flight Australia. On their be- half, congregations of both the Wonthaggi and Inver- loch parishes of the Anglican Church donated $545. 2018 Welcome to all our new families for whom this will be their first newsletter. We are looking forward to an- other busy and exciting year. We are saying farewell to Mrs Mulqueeny who is returning to Korumburra Pri- mary School and Ms McMahon, and sincerely thank them both for the time they have been at our school. We have appreciated their calm, professional attitude, and positive approach to working with all our stu- dents, staff and families. We wish them all the very best for 2018. We will be welcoming back a number of staff from family leave and also Russell McCartney who has been on secondment to Wonthaggi North as a Maths coach. We welcome Miss Sharnee Gray who will join our Prep team, and due to our sudden growth in numbers have advertised for another teacher who will join the 5/6 team. At this time an appointment has not been made, but students in that class will be notified of their teachers name on book collection day. The Edu- cation Department has introduced new positions of Learning Specialists into schools for 2018 and we will include an English and a maths specialist to work with our staff next year. There are too many individuals to name personally, and I am likely to offend if I miss someone out but I would like to thank our School Councillors, and particu- larly Karl who is retiring this year, and Shan who has resigned for personal reasons, for all their hard work during their time on council. Also the PFA, the Easter Fair committee, all our parent helpers whether it be on the BBQ at the Farmers Market (particularly Wanda who has organised the BBQ and roster for each market who is leaving us), the sushi roster parents, those who helped on camps and excursions, in the classroom, our LAP helpers, our Parent Link volunteers, our garden helpers, and those who cover our books. Janelle Ber- tacco continues to do an amazing job organising Book Club benefitting those who purchase the books, and the school through the earning of points. We have also had support from many community organisations in- cluding our local Library, Life Saving Club, Bunurong Environmental Centre, the Historical Society, and the R.S.L just to name a few. We receive financial support to assist in sending students on camps, with food for students who have no lunch, and for our end-of-year awards. This support shows how much of a part of the community we really are, and brings with it the expec- tation that being a part of such an embracing commu- nity is a two-way interaction. A new initiative is that the children of retiring School Councillors will select a book to be donated to the School Library on their behalf. The books will have plate with recognition of the Councillor on the inside cover. Hamish and Amaya both chose books for their parents – beside is a photo of them with their selec- tions – Do Not Open this Book, and Scarlet and Ivy.

A note from the SEL

team

Garden Help The garden is looking fantastic and has lots of yummy things growing in it at the moment. To ensure that all of the grade 3 and 4’s work doesn’t go to

waste over the summer we are calling on any available volunteers to help wa-ter over the summer holidays. If you are available to complete watering at any time you can leave your name on

the roster at the office. Ideally it would be terrific if the garden could be wa-tered every 2-3 days depending on the weather. Any produce that is ready to be harvested at this time would be

yours.
