Sighted fire has its usesIt’s up to you making fully informed, adult decisions on where your reflexive shooting is weak and you need to apply sighted fire in order to make up for any potential shortcomings.

EXTREME ACCURACY FOR COMBATIVE SIGHTED FIRE

PULSE O2DA Training Presents...In this free reportWe expose sighted fire for what it is, a useful technique, and we will share with you the little known secrets of how to guarantee your hits are where you want them, every time, making it easier than you ever imagined, and shattering some of the old myths once and for all.

YES, WE’RE ABOUT TO ROCK THE BOAT...As promised, here is your free report on how to guarantee your sighted fire hits, and remember, you read it here first. After over twenty years in the firearms field, I have consistently seen added components, and they always work to the shooters disadvantage. I know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that if you use these simple techniques, you will greatly benefit from them, and you will drastically reduce your learning curve when it comes to sighted fire.

Welcome to the beginning of a great and

easy way to guarantee your hits and drastically reduce

your learning curve for combative sighted fire

First word of warning: This is a long lecture, but itʼs value is immeasurable, so my highest advice to you is this... read every word and understand every principle, in order that you may cut your learning curve from years to minutes, or hours, or days... yes, you read that right. Minutes, hours or days... Because, despite what the “experts” say, it does not take years to become an extremely proficient sighted fire shooter who knows where his shots are going (it is completely dependent on your willingness to accept the truth and implement it which will decide whether its minutes, hours or days...) but in any case, you will get there way before those who do not know the truth, if you implement what you are about to read.

Second word of Warning:Only practice these techniques at a range safely. Follow your firearms manufacturers recommendations on everything, and follow the range rules and range officers instructions/regulations implicitly, as you are responsible for every round you launch down range until it comes to a full and complete stop. Neither I nor my company have any authority to override any other ranges authority. And unless you are taking classes with me, I canʼt get you to shoot under my vigilant eye and guidance. So in reading this, and implementing any of this outstanding material, YOU the SHOOTER assume all risk and liability in firing your firearm wherever you may choose to shoot legally.

The Controversy

Now, before I get started, I know that there is and has been a HUGE ongoing debate in the firearms industry in regards to the techniques of sighted and unsighted or “reflexive” fire, and there are schools absolutely dedicated to one technique or the other. Some schools go so far as to name themselves after the technique or the sub techniques in order to simply make the unequivocal point of the technique they follow.

The Reality

Here is the deal folks, sighted fire and unsighted/reflexive fire are only techniques. If you remember what we said about techniques at our website; “ ...a technique is a thing you could do by formula. This would include things like loading, malfunction clearances,

TECHNIQUES

There is a right place and time for everything... Depending on your ability, you need to know when it’s in your best interest to decide which technique to use. Is this a good place for reflexive fire or not? Should you be leaning toward sighted fire now because you know you are at your maximum affective range? Only you can answer that, if you shoot and train properly.

At close range with little or no

time, reflexive fire can and does work

quite well...

reloads, how to present, aim, and fire a weapons system, gouging eyes, punching, using concealment and cover, “slicing the pie”, talking on the radio, and so on.”

A Simple Failure to Understand

Dedicating a firearms training school after a technique or sub technique is simply a failure to fully understand what the function of a technique is in a tactic. You will get the full picture of that statement later when you attend one of our outstanding courses, but for now, understand that while some techniques are better than others, no technique can cover all circumstances fully all the time for every situation.

An Example

If you endeavored to use sighted fire, at close range, you would be burning valuable time attempting to get however many fundamentals of shooting you have been taught (some schools teach up to 8 or more, while others teach as few as 3).

Can you imagine trying to balance; proper grip, stance, sight alignment, sight picture, trigger control, natural point of aim, breathing, muscle relaxation, yadda, yadda, while some dude with a knife is about to stab you in the heart?

Of course not, that would be silly and detrimental to your health.

On the other hand, if you are a proficient unsighted fire shooter who regularly practices (and hits) out to letʼs say 7 yards, and one day you are faced with a couple of bad guys trying to kill you from 25-50 yards away, how much are you willing to bet that you will not run out of rounds before you stop the bad guys? Equally as bad, with those rounds that you have shot, but not stopped your adversaries with, where have they gone? Down the block to hit some poor kid on her tricycle?

The Point

My point here is this, both shooting techniques are valid, are proven, and both techniques have their own particular tactical niche.

So are the schools that are dedicated to either technique simply saying that “We will only fight at these distances and under these circumstances”? I donʼt think so, but it sure gives off that stench when they exclude other technique and manipulate their courses of fire to show the value or limitation of one over the other...

The reality of the situation is this; You need to practice both techniques and you need to be proficient with both techniques, because both techniques have their own particular tactical niche. You, as an adult, making fully informed and adult decisions need to know where your unsighted fire is lacking, and where you need to start using sighted fire to make up for your particular tactical limitation.

Why on earth would anyone handicap themselves by refusing to learn a valuable, viable and useful technique? Thatʼs not to say you are limited in your ability to effectively use sighted or unsighted fire... if you practice. I am simply telling you that you need to know where your limit is so you can transition to sighted fire to make up for your lack of ability at that distance where unsighted fire becomes unhelpful in stopping the fight immediately.

Remember what we are talking about here, practical accuracy for combative shooting, getting your hits where you want them, in a fight for life, not competitive accuracy (although this lecture applies equally as well for competitive shooting, there are just more elements that you incorporate because in competition you have the luxury of more time without the stress of someone trying to kill you). And to answer your question, yes, we can teach you that too.

415.234.6757 [4] WWW.PULSEFIREARMSTRAINING.COM

With that said, I am now going to give you the proverbial “Keys to the Kingdom” of combative sighted fire. Again, if you do exactly what I am about to tell you, you will forever know that you can get your hits with sighted fire, and you will never again be frustrated, nor need some self appointed expert to teach you some hidden Zen like secret that you will have to pay out the nose for.

Okay, here we go..

One of the most succinct and to the point summations of sighted fire I have heard came from a famous west coast school. They call these fundamentals “The Three Secrets”. And to be honest, they did a lot of thinking to boil it down like that... BUT... to be brutally honest, they are wrong. There are only really two “secrets” to sighted fire.

First, let’s cover the “Three Secrets” as they are taught:

1. Sight alignment2. Sight picture3. Trigger control

Now, I could literally write a book on this subject, I mean, I used to proficiently shoot high powered iron sighed rifles out past 1,000 yards and plink steel targets out past 300 yards with my Glock, but I am not going to bore you to death with the details which are unnecessary for fast, effective, practical and combative shooting. So here is the nitty-gritty of the three secrets, and for simplicityʼs sake, we are going to cover the sighting system on your average handgun:

1. Sight alignment is simply the relationship of your firing side eye and the sights on your firearm.a. Keeping it simple, proper sight alignment is achieved when

your front sight tip is level with the top of your rear sight, and you have the same amount of light on either side of the front sight, it would look something like the top photo to to the right of this column.

b. What is important to remember here is that the human eye operates much like a camera lens (it can only focus on one focal plane at a time), so if you are truly focusing on your front sight, your rear sight will be just a little fuzzy. Just as the photo in the top right shows. So remember, if you are truly focusing on the front sight (like your supposed to) then the rear sight will be slightly blurry.

2. Next comes what they call “sight picture”, which is simply your proper sight alignment placed over your intended target, so that would look something like the middle photo on the right.a. Remember, just like we spoke of in the sight alignment

portion above; the human eye can only clearly focus on one

Sight Alignment

Sight Picture

Trigger Control These three concepts are fairly well distilled, yet one of them is misleading and is the heartache and bane of all those who have ever been frustrated in their attempts to shoot quickly and accurately, and the fix is surprisingly simple.

THREE SECRETS

415.234.6757 [5] WWW.PULSEFIREARMSTRAINING.COM

plane at a time, so if you are truly focusing on your front sight (as you should be when you are using sighted fire), your rear sight will be just a little fuzzy, your target will be even more fuzzy, and will continue to get even fuzzier the further back you are (as you can see from the diagrams on the left, simulating greater d i s t a n c e s ) . S o t h e diagram in the middle of the above page is very deceptive because in that diagram, you can see the front sight, the rear s ight and the target equally clearly. That is part of the problem, but only, a third of why teaching “sight picture” the way it has been taught is a horrific atrocity for shooters... Again; if you are truly focusing on the front sight (like your supposed to) then the front sight will be crystal clear, the rear sight will be slightly blurry (like the top photo on page 4) and your target will be even more blurry, just as the diagrams to the left on this page show.

3. Finally, the last secret is “trigger control”. There are some important parts to it, but the basics are keeping your finger straight and OFF of the trigger until your sights are on your target, and once your sights are aligned on your target, your trigger finger immediately goes on

the trigger taking any “slack“ out of the trigger, and then y o u a p p l y s t e a d y a n d consistent pressure to the rear until you achieve what we call a “surprise break”.

Now we all know itʼs not really a surprise, because you know your sights are on the intended target and you know your finger is on the trigger and you know you are pressing the trigger in order to make the gun fire. But the big point here is that you donʼt want to know the precise instant that the gun is going to fire, because if you know exactly when it will fire, you will do what all people who have normal nervous systems will do... and that is you will somehow anticipate the shot and you will somehow throw your shot by doing something like “healing” or “bucking” or jerking the trigger, thereby d i s t u r b i n g t h e s i g h t alignment that you worked so hard to establish. And r e m e m b e r, t h a t s i g h t alignment is what allows you to shoot a straight shot with sighted fire, and without perfect sight alignment, all bets are off.Once the shot breaks, you hold the trigger to the rear and gradually allow it to ease foreword until you achieve what is known as the “trigger reset”, and once that is achieved, your finger stops moving and you can press again if you need to without having to start

SIGHT PICTURE

Sight picture is deceptive As you are about to read in the section below, while the above diagrams are artistically correct, they are the Achilles heel of the three secrets that are the downfall of more shooters than any other contributing factor. Keep this in mind; what you see at distance is an optical illusion...

415.234.6757 [6] WWW.PULSEFIREARMSTRAINING.COM

everything all over again. Once you are finished shooting, your finger goes straight and off of the trigger...

Now, as I said in the beginning of the above lecture, those three secrets are pretty good distillation of the fundamentals of sighted fire for combative shooting except for the one weakness that hurts so much more than it helps, and thatʼs the way “sight picture” is taught to students the world over.

The Achilles Heel; Sight Picture

Okay, here is the crux of the matter, whether you like it or not, you are not a machine, no one I know is a machine, and there is no possible way that you or anyone on the face of the planet will ever see the sight picture as it has been presented to you in the diagrams in the previous

two pages, which is the way that everyone teaches it.

If you have ever seen those types of diagrams and then you have shot a firearm attempting to emulate that sight picture, you have a “training scar” whether you know it or not...

You see, the human mind is simply amazing, and the subconscious latches onto pictures, thoughts, images, sounds, tastes, smells... you get the idea. And if you have ever shot a firearm attempting to see anything like the above, before you “break” (shoot) the shot, then you are indeed scarred, because you have begun to ingrain a false reality into your mind, and in order for your mind to make up for the cognitive dissonance (the fact that your sights ARE moving and your sub conscious wonʼt accept anything less than that perfect sight picture) you physically end up attempting to compensate by doing things like:

The “Ransom Rest”... What you

are NOT

415.234.6757 [7] WWW.PULSEFIREARMSTRAINING.COM

• Jerking the trigger, in an attempt to “time” the shot as you see that perfect sight picture. And that jerking leads to...

• Anticipation problems like...• Heeling• Bucking• Dipping• And all sorts of other nasty problems

Often as an additional handicap, you end up becoming more concerned with where the front sight is in relationship to the target than where it is in relationship to the rear sight (you know, where the shot is really made...)

Thatʼs why I always ask my training scarred clients this one simple question when I see that they are having a hard time getting hits where they want them; “Joe, tell me, what was the last thing you saw right before the shot broke?”

My clients for the most part have a life time of training scars, so they know the right answer, at least they think they know the right answer and I ALWAYS get the same frustrated answer...

“Well Ron, I see a clear front sight tip when the shot breaks” Thatʼs like a “No-Duh” answer, they have been trained to know that answer, and they are frigging downright sick and tired of doing what they have been told, but it still isnʼt working for them...

But thatʼs only half of the answer to the equation, so I persist... for the answer that I KNOW is coming. So I ask again, a little differently to draw the full answer out; “Okay, thatʼs good Joe, and while you are looking at that clear front sight, can you tell me exactly where it is, I mean, are you seeing your sights way down

there in the bottom corner of your target when the shot breaks?”

Well thats a no brainer as well, of course his sights arenʼt down there, or he wouldnʼt be pressing the trigger, but my question is starting to MAKE Joe think about what he is seeing.

Now, here comes Joeʼs answer, and itʼs ALWAYS the same for ever person that ever shoots and is frustrated with their grouping... you ready for this? Joe tells me, with all the honesty and sincerity of an innocent babe... “Well, I see a clear front sight (notice that he throws in the correct terminology just to make sure that I am understanding that he understands what he is supposed to be doing...), and it is sitting right smack dab in the center of my target Ron.”

BINGO! The answer I KNEW was coming!

How could I possible generalize like this?Because WITHOUT fail; 100% of the time, all

shooters who donʼt get groups where they want them (using sighted fire, and assuming that the firearm has been properly zeroed), have the exact same problem as Joe. They all have the same training scar.

What compounds this problem even more, is the fact that all humans naturally attempt to line things up and center them, to put order to the disorderly. This works against us in the beginning of shooting, but it works for us in a tremendous way if you know the secret behind guaranteeing your hit... yes, I am getting there, so be patient, and donʼt skip ahead or you wonʼt really “get it”.

So I ask Joe the question I had to avoid in order to make him think this through and draw out the truth... Because if I asked him the real

415.234.6757 [8] WWW.PULSEFIREARMSTRAINING.COM

question first, he would have given me the answer that he thought I wanted to hear.

So now I ask “Joe, I understand that you see a clear front sight, and that your clear front sight is centered on your target... but can you tell me EXACTLY where that clear front sight is in relationship to the REAR sight the exact second the shot breaks?”

Insert the “deer in the headlights” look from Joe here.

So now, for the first time ever, Joe is really thinking about the relationship between his front sight, and his rear sights... which is great... but now, if there isnʼt some immediate intervention, Joeʼs shooting will absolutely TANK even further.

Why? Because just like every person on the face of the planet, Joe can only think of one thing at a time with ABSOLUTE 100% clear conscious focus.

Want some proof?

Okay we are going to do a simple exercise, to show you that you can only think of one thing clearly (consciously) at a time:

I would like for you to make a mental image in your mind of a chalk board/dry erase board, and I want you to see it clearly in your minds eye. Got it? Good.

Now, I want you to picture me (someone) writing the following equation on the board.

1+1 2

Make sure that you can see that clearly in your minds eye... Got it? Good, now right next to that first equation, I want you to visualize me writing the following equation...

2+2 4Got that? So now you should have these two

equations in your head simultaneously, it should look something this...

1 2+1 +2 2 4So do you think you have those firmly in your

minds eye? Can you see both equations simultaneously?

Great, but now the shocker....Your not seeing them simultaneously... your

mind is flipping through the numbers, and the plus signs and totals so quickly that you only think that you are seeing them simultaneously (just like movie frames).

Here, Iʼll prove it to you...I want you to continue the exact same

process, with 3+3=6, and 4+4=8, and so on and so forth until you can no longer see all the equations at the same time.

Now, you will notice if you back up one or two equations back before you hit your limit of “mind sight”, you will find that your mind is indeed flipping through the equations, and not just flipping through the equations, but each number, and it is doing it so quickly they seem to be one picture in your minds eye. Kind of like a movie...

415.234.6757 [9] WWW.PULSEFIREARMSTRAINING.COM

For those of you that have a photographic memory, that string of equation could stretch out into the 20ʼs and above, but you will eventually notice the reality of the above statement none the less.

“So what’s the point Ron?” I hear you asking...

The point is this, because you can only truly mentally consciously focus clearly on one thing at a time (much like the human eye) if you are concentrating on that clear front sight with perfect alignment (remember, thatʼs what drives a strait shot) and then you start to worry about how good your sight picture is looking... think about this... what are you no longer truly fully focusing on?

Well, your visual focus may in fact be on a clear front sight, and that front sight may in fact be in the center of your target, but now that your 100% conscious mental focus is on the front sight tip to target alignment, you have NO CLUE as to where EXACTLY where in the rear sight your front sight is... And I know this seems counter intuitive, but, that sight alignment is infinitely more important than your front sight tip to target alignment.

More on this in a moment, but I want to get back to Joe...

So if I let Joe shoot some more, and ask him to make sure he has perfect sight alignment and perfect sight picture, before he presses that next shot off, now I have given him three things to worry about... and one thing that we now know he CANʼT do, which is consciously concentrate on more than one thing at a time... So now, if I let Joe shoot again, he will try to balance:

1. Sight alignment with a clear front sight tip2. Sight picture

which we have already established as an impossibility as a human.

3. Trigger controlWe already know he will jerk the trigger,

because as he sees his sight picture (which will be gone in a fraction of a second) which he believes he MUST have in order to get a good hit, he will jerk that trigger just to make sure that the shot will indeed go in the center...

So if I let Joe shoot some more, without another lecture (that you are about to get...) Joe would develop an even worse anticipation problem, and his shooting would get worse.

So let’s get this out of the way...

Sight picture, as you know it, is way overrated and absolutely impossible for a human being to achieve naturally. More importantly, you donʼt need that nice sight picture to guarantee you hits. Why? because itʼs all an optical illusion... At no time do your sights ever get bigger than your target. They may LOOK bigger at greater distances, but you and I both know that the target hasnʼt shrunk, nor have your sights grown any.

So what does that have to do with anything? It has everything to do with sighted fire,

because once you really understand that, you free your mind to focus on the only thing that can give you a center hit, and that is perfect sight alignment with a clear front sight tip, while you let your sights move around, somewhere in the center of your intended target area, while you achieve that proverbial surprise break.

Understand that... You MUST “let go” of that perfect sight picture you have been taught to see,

415.234.6757 [10] WWW.PULSEFIREARMSTRAINING.COM

and you have to trust that your subconscious is doing itʼs job and placing your perfect sight alignment in the center of your intended target, while letting go of the concept of a perfect or great sight picture and only focusing mentally and visually 100% on your sight alignment, you have to let the shot break with that surprise break.

Surely your kidding me, right Ron? It can’t be that simple

No, I am not kidding. I am dead serious.Once you learn to let go of that perfect sight

picture, and focus solely on the perfect sight alignment while achieving a surprise break, your groups will immediately start shrinking dramatically. And the more you focus on that perfect sight alignment and the more you achieve a surprise break while maintaining perfect sight alignment and allowing your sights to “roam/float/dance” somewhere near the center of your target, the tighter your shot groups will become.

At this point you have all the information you need to go to your range right now and prove to yourself that what I am telling you is the truth.

For those of you that still have some lingering doubts, stick around and we will now talk about the geometry behind how all this works.

How and why it works

For those of you that are sticking around, I want to now fully engage your mind and reasoning processes... I want to further assure you that I am not going to throw some trick questions in this lecture or some obscure precision or physics technique question in there... No “Hey, you forgot the coriolis effect” or “Hey,

you forgot about the 5 mile an hour full value wind at 100 yards”. No tricks, just logic and reasoning...

I need your cooperation and imagination:

This next lecture will seem a bit dry, but trust me, it is going somewhere very important, but to make it work, I need you to help me by giving me a little leeway because we are not face to face on the range talking this through. So I need a few concessions and promises from you.

1. I need you to be absolutely sure that you are getting at what I am driving at, what I am trying to get you to vividly visualize.

a. While I am a great communicator, sometimes things donʼt translate that well onto paper. So, if for some reason, I lose you at any point, first back up and start rereading from the last point you were tracking... if I lose you again in the same a r e a , f e e l f r e e t o w r i t e m e a t : [email protected]. I will answer your questions.

2. Because of time limitations, I canʼt make all the diagrams for this article, so once again, I need your to engage your vivid imagination. If someone out there reading this is great with graphic arts, I will give you and your significant other a free course (or two, depending on how good your graphics are) if you can visually represent what I am asking you to imagine.3. I need you to have an open mind and do a “brain dump” of what you think you know about sighted fire.4. I need your complete honesty, I canʼt help you if you only half “get it”, and if you need

415.234.6757 [11] WWW.PULSEFIREARMSTRAINING.COM

further clarification, email me at the above address.

The worlds greatest Ransom Rest

Pretend we are on a nice 100 yard firing range, you and I are over on the far right side of the line and you see a set of perfectly level and parallel railroad tracks running from the 1 yard line, all the way back to the 100 yard line.

Right there at the one yard line, sitting on top of those railroad tracks is a large, very heavy, wheeled cement platform that can roll from the 1 to 100 yard line.

On top of this platform you can see that I have a Ransom Rest, which allows us to test the ultimate accuracy of a firearm (see the bottom of page 6 to know what this is), sitting on a hydraulic lift.

And this is is no ordinary hydraulic lift either, this baby is state of the art. This lift is on a hand held computer control pad that allows me to program both the vertical and the horizontal movement of my Ransom Rest with pinpoint precision... And f u r t h e r m o r e , t h i s r o l l i n g computerized Ransom Rest is laser sighted, so we know that there is absolutely NO cant or

deflec t ion in th i s ro l l i ng , compu te r i zed , hyd rau l i c Ransom Rest.

Got all that? I know I am stretching it, but itʼs important for you to understand this part...

Shooting off of this Amazing Ransom Rest...

Okay, so here we are, you and me, and our amazing, computer programed, and hydraulic Ransom Rest at the 1 yard line...

Now I take your handgun and insert it into the appropriate mold, and insert that into the vice like jaws of the Ransom rest. At this point, I have the “program” on this Amazing Ransom Rest (hereafter referred to as “ARR”) set to hit dead center of our target (just above the letter “A” on our target.

That first hit would look like the top diagram...

Now, without moving the ARR, we shoot two more shots, and what you could expect to see is a “ragged hole”, all three shots, through the same hole, so it wouldnʼt look different than our first diagram, except MAYBE just a little larger hole, certainly not a “clover leaf” or three distinct rings. As all quality (notice I didnʼt say expensive)

Our ARR drill will amaze you Our ARR (see explanation on this page) is amazing and removes all cant from our weapons system, which allows us to not only test for a firearms ultimate accuracy, but allows us to learn a very valuable lesson that will pay off big dividends shortly.

THE “ARR” HITS

415.234.6757 [12] WWW.PULSEFIREARMSTRAINING.COM

handguns manufactured today are capable of “one holing” it at one yard.

So far so good yeah?So now I take the ARR and

move it vertically up about 14 cm, and take a shot, amazingly enough (remember I have this programed into the computer that controls the hydraulics...) My next shot cuts the top of the “A zone” line, just like I knew it would... Then I move the ARR over to the right about 7 and 1/2 cm and the next shot sure enough cuts the top right corner of the A zone line. Not satisfied yet, I drop it down once again about 14 cm and take another shot, and I get a hit on the right s ide o f the A zone l i ne , horizontally level with my first shot. So far we have four holes in our target and they look like the middle diagram on page 11.

Okay, so now I move our ARR 5 more times, shooting on the bottom right corner line, bottom center line, bottom left corner line, middle left line, and top left corner line, all on the A zone line...

So our target would now resemble the bottom diagram on the right side of page 11.

With me so far? Good, I knew you would be...

So here is what I want you to start to ponder; we have been moving the ARR (with your handgun in it) and firing shots and cutting the A zone line.

In order to do that, we HAVE to move the ARR the same dimensions of the A zone (28 cm x 15 cm)... Any less or more than the dimensions of the A zone and we will either hit inside or outside of the line... tracking so far?

What I am getting at is this... in order to simply get the hits on the line without introducing any cant to the gun (remember itʼs only capable of shooting straight because it has all been laser aligned) we HAVE to move the ARR (hence your firearm) the full and complete distance of the A zone, in order to get those hits.

Make sense to you so far? Good.

Now comes the moment you have not been waiting for, I am going to go one step further, and I am going to now “shoot the star out”. I am going to take this completely computer programed ARR and I am going to have it shoot your .45 handgun, about 45ths of an inch starting at the top center and working itʼs way

MORE ARR

The ARR at the 1, 7, and 15 yard lines As we have described on this page, we can see the we still have the exact same amount of movement required by the ARR in order to “shoot the star out”. The point is: Without introducing cant the ARR must be moved the exact same amount at each yard-line in order to stay on the A zone lines.

415.234.6757 [13] WWW.PULSEFIREARMSTRAINING.COM

all around that A zone in order to drive a point home...

So at the end of that drill, you would have a target that looks something like the target on the top left of page 12... literally having shot the A zone out of it.

My point here is this, you have that whole A zone of movement available to our ARR, just as long as we donʼt introduce a variable like cant.

Now, I am going to move the ARR back to the 7 yard line, and repeat the exact same drill, and what do you think will happen?

Yip, with the exact same program running, we get the exact same results (up to the inherent accuracy of your handgun). So it would look a bit like the middle photo on the previous page.

Now we move our ARR back to the 15 yard line and we end up with what you see on the bottom photo on page 12.

So , if I move the ARR back to lets say... 75 or 100 yards, what would you expect?

Sure, a more ragged edge, depending on the inherent accuracy of your handgun, and perhaps, perhaps a drop of the entire group of a couple of inches, so it would look something like this...

But thatʼs it folks, and the main point here is that it would still require us moving the ARR the full 28 x 15 cm in order to have the same results.

You can repeat the drill on any shape of target you like, and as long as you set the experiment up the same way, you will have to set the computer program up with the same dimensions of the target you are wishing to punch the center out of.

The Point of all of that...

So let me ask you this, if we now know that we have all of that movement available to us, why on earth is it that we have people missing their targets at the 3, 5, 7, 10, 15... yard lines with their handguns when they (we) are not moving the full perimeter of our intended strike zone?

The answer is simple... we are introducing cant into our handgun, and we are doing that because we are not watching our perfect sight alignment while achieving a surprise break.

Yes, I know there is an additional angle factor that comes into play, but I want you to get the full flavor for what I am driving at here before you poo-poo where I am going with this, because remember, this has never failed to improve any of my clients performance and it wonʼt fail you.

A Drill for the Range

Okay, now I want you to go to the range, if you arenʼt already there, and we are going to perform some drills that are going to drive this and a couple of more points home...

415.234.6757 [14] WWW.PULSEFIREARMSTRAINING.COM

First drill at the 7 yard line

Now in the beginning this is going to feel really strange to you... but you have to trust me on this in order to get the maximum benefit and you have to be perfectly honest with yourself.

Starting at the 7 yard line, following your firearms manufacturers guidelines and your range rules/protocol (remember the “Second Word of Warning” on page 2 of this free report). I want you to pick out a simple target, like the IPSC target, or some other practical

target that has lines in the strike zone that you can see.

Go ahead, and run that target out to 7 yards, and now, while you are still safely unloaded I want you to trace, with perfect sight alignment that center strike zone.

Now I fully realize that the graphical representations over to the right side of this page and down below are misleading; because as we discussed previously, you will only be able to see one thing clearly, and that should be your front sight with correct sight alignment, tracing that center hit area. Again, graphic limitations on my end...

FIRST DRILL

Proceed in either direction, clockwise or counterclockwise, just

keep tracing and moving

415.234.6757 [15] WWW.PULSEFIREARMSTRAINING.COM

What I want you to notice as you trace that strike zone at 7 yards, is just how much your arms and the sights are moving while you trace that strike zone...

Now let me ask you, “Do your arms and sights normally move that much while you are shooting?”

Of course not. Because right now, for the purpose of this drill, you are forcing your arms to trace the outer edge of your intended aiming area.

Now, stop tracing the line, and let your sights settle somewhere in the center of the target... donʼt try to hold the gun any more still than you naturally can, just let the gun and your sights settle into their natural little “wobble” area.

Now, do you see how little movement you actually have in contrast to the amount of movement you can have and still hit inside of line of your aiming area? This is the relationship to the amount of movement you CAN have and still get a hit within the intended strike zone, IF you have proper sight alignment with a surprise break.

If you see the difference, great, move on, if not, repeat the above “tracing” procedure until it is evident to you.

Okay now for the second part of the drill...Go ahead and load your firearm to your

manufacturers guidelines, and the range rules.Keep the target at the same distance, start

tracing the outline once more. Now, as your tracing, I want you to place your

firing side trigger finger on the trigger, take out the slack (that mushy part before you feel the actual mechanical resistance) and while you are tracing

at about 1 revolution every three seconds, I want you to gradually apply constant and even pressure to your trigger.

Now I donʼt want you to worry about that trigger, the gun will go off all on itʼs own as you gradually continue to apply consistent pressure to the rear, thatʼs the surprise break we were talking about.

If at any time during your trigger press you see your front sight (which you should be focusing on, and knowing where, in the rear sight at all times) take a short quick dip up or down, or a jaunt to one side or another, congratulations, you have just discovered that you have the natural reaction to recoil called “anticipation”...

No worries though mate, this is a full service report, and we will teach you how to get rid of that in just a few moments.

So now as you are pressing the trigger to the rear and paying full attention to your clear front sight tip, properly centered in the rear sight... all while tracing, I want you to keep gradually pressing that trigger and keep tracing that strike zone at the same speed until the shot breaks...

When the shot breaks, I want you, with all of your effort, to attempt to keep that trigger to the rear, and continue to maintain proper sight alignment while achieving that trigger reset we spoke of on page 5.

Great, got that done?Go ahead and do that one more time, then

unload, because I need your full attention for the next part.

Okay, now, I want you to think very clearly about what you JUST finished doing, because

415.234.6757 [16] WWW.PULSEFIREARMSTRAINING.COM

every time I have done this with any of my clients, I always see the same thing, and some of them see it while they are performing the drill, and some have to experience it a few times before they actually notice what I am about to tell you.

Your subconscious MUST hit center...

If you will replay what just happened in your mind, you may have noticed a couple of things as you pressed the trigger, because I see it in every one of my clients that I need to take through this process.

1. The first thing you should have noticed was how difficult it was to trace while you were pressing... all of my clients, without fail, do two things as they press while they trace...

a. First - the speed at which they trace begins to slow down the closer they get to the shot breaking... and second...b. The size of the trace begins to shrink. that is, if they were tracing correctly in the beginning, as they are getting closer to the moment the firearm is about to discharge they not only slow speed at which they are tracing, but the size of the trace rapidly grows smaller as well, so instead of tracing on the line of the strike zone, they begin to trace within the line, and the tracing process continues to slow and shrink as they get closer to the shot actually breaking... and all of that happens naturally, without having to make it happen or thinking about it happening.

Why?Because....

Your subconscious MUST “hit” the center of your center of attention...

This is something that is hard-wired into our subconscious. All humans automatically, subconsciously focus first on the center mass of any object of interest.

Way back when your ancestors were roaming the wilds on a hunt, and when they caught an unexpected movement out of the corner of their eyes, they quite naturally turned to look at the object, then while focusing on the new object of interest... their eyes immediately went center mass.

We do this to this day so that we can pick up the maximum amount of information from the object of sudden interest. The subconscious wants to know:

1. What is that?a. Is it a threat to my existence?

2. What direction/trajectory is it traveling?a. Is it headed for me, or is it headed for Brian over there?

3. How fast is it going?a. Do I have time to avoid it?

The human mind is so ingrained in this pattern that if you have ever attended any high speed driving program you know that the hardest thing a driving instructor has to teach his students is to NOT look at the thing they DONʼT want to hit. Because if you are looking at it, you will naturally steer your vehicle into it, and it is darned hard for a driving instructor to teach their students not to look at the impending threat, and instead, look for a way out.

415.234.6757 [17] WWW.PULSEFIREARMSTRAINING.COM

Good news

This is the way it is... I am not making this up, think about the drill you just shot... it was darned hard to force yourself to keep the same speed and size of trace as you pressed that trigger BECAUSE every fiber of self preservation was already screaming at you “Slower, smaller, center it up you moron!”

Here is the point, and the great news... Because your subconscious already wants and NEEDS to hit center, you donʼt even have to worry about that part. Because that part is already taken care of by something that you donʼt need to override to make happen. It will happen all on itʼs own by simply wanting to hit the center and allowing your sights to naturally wobble in the center of your AIMING AREA... YOU DONʼT HAVE TO TRY TO HOLD THE GUN STILL! Let it wobble... All you have to do is give your subconscious the straight shot that will allow your subconscious to hit the center. And the ONLY way you can do that to its maximum potential in combative sighted fire is by focusing on that proper sight alignment and achieving a surprise break so you donʼt screw up your sight alignment and subconsciousʼs desire to get the shot in the center by sabotaging your shot with anticipation.

Sit back for a second and let that all soak in for a second... reread it if you need to.

The subconscious is so precise and powerful in this area that while shooting iron sighted high-power rifles at 1,000 yards, the “spotter” noticing a slight wind change can tell the shooter behind the rifle something like “Think X ring at 3 oʼclock.”

The rifleman could just click more windage onto his sights, but that takes time, and by the time he changes it and gets back into position, the wind could once again shift, then he would have to start all over. Also, understand that at 1,000 yards no-one can see the “rings” on the target with the unaided eye, so the statement “Think (whatever) ring at (whatever) direction” is given, because the subconscious WILL put that round there.

Think about that power... itʼs not magic, it is factual and can be tapped into, and it is just waiting for you to do so...

Second Drill

Once you understand the awesomeness of what the reality is, go back to your firing line and repeat the first drill, except this time, donʼt trace... just let the firearm dance/wobble/move somewhere near the center of your aiming area (notice the words aiming area and not aiming point).

This time, when you get up there, focus only on the sight alignment aspect... not a clear front sight tip centered on the target... but a clear front sight perfectly centered in the rear sight while your perfect sight alignment naturally wobbles around in the center area. And slowly “pressssssss” to the rear until you achieve a surprise break. Your trigger press can take 5-10 seconds for all I care at this point, but you need to achieve that surprise break, or all bets are off.

Whatever you do, DONʼT look down range at that first shot and then attempt to put the next few shots through that same hole, because then you will defeat the purpose of the drill and you will

415.234.6757 [18] WWW.PULSEFIREARMSTRAINING.COM

have given yourself an aiming point instead of an aiming area that I want you to become comfortable with.

Now, if you have done that 3 times, go ahead and bring your target in and marvel at the amazing accuracy that you just achieved, go home and frame it.. itʼs all good. Then shoot just like that a lot more today in order to ingrain that into your mind.

However, if while pressing that trigger slowly to the rear in an attempt to achieve that surprise break, you see your sights jumping, dipping or moving off to the sides before the shot breaks you have one of two problems...

Improper trigger finger placement or anticipation.

Now remember how we have been talking about how powerful the subconscious is? Well, it is so powerful that if you have been training improperly for any length of time, you are training scarred and you need to start to reprogram your internal computer... but before we go there, letʼs eliminate what may simply be your trigger finger placement.

Everyone is different, and all people donʼt fit all firearms exactly ergonomically correctly, so there is no one right place for your trigger finger to be when it marries up with the trigger. However; generally speaking what you are striving for, is someplace between the tip of your finger and the first joint on your trigger finger.

Generally speaking, we find that if someone is using too little of their finger (placing just the tip on the trigger) they tend to push the gun (hence the front sight) away from their firing side hand. So if I were shooting with my right hand and I put

too little finger on the trigger, I can easily press the gun off to the left side while I press my trigger, and if I am watching my sights while I press, I will notice this.

Generally speaking, we find that if someone is using too much trigger finger (getting too close to the first joint or on the first joint) they tend to pull the gun (hence the front sight) towards their firing side hand. So if I were shooting with my right hand and I put too much finger on the trigger, I can easily pull the gun off to the right side while I press my trigger, and, once again, if I am watching my sights while I press, I will notice this.

Again, those are generalities, so if you are comfortable with your trigger finger placement, are certain that you arenʼt disturbing your sight alignment with your press, and you are still not getting your hits, you are... Anticipating.

Anticipation... the bodies natural reaction to recoil

Ever since you were able to walk as a child, your body has been fine tuning what is called the “Uprighting Tonic Reflex”, this is what gives you that uncanny ability to stand in a room and tell if the floor is level or not, it is so fine tuned that the average human can tell the difference in 1/2 - 1 degree slope on a floor. Not bad at all huh? This reflex is amazing, and as you guessed it, it is tied in to the central nervous system and you never have to think your way through attempting to balance yourself under normal activities.

Now normally, this is a great thing for you, but it becomes detrimental to your shooting if you are training scarred and have already developed a bad anticipation problem.

415.234.6757 [19] WWW.PULSEFIREARMSTRAINING.COM

As a mentor, having watched thousands of clients, I can literally see the client pushing into the handgun, even when my client canʼt, because it happens in a fraction of a second, just before the gun fires.

If you have ever been at the range, and thought your firearm was loaded, and pressed the trigger and seen your sights take a “dive”, you will know exactly what I see, right before the recoil brings the sights back up. It happens so fast that most people donʼt see it happening, unless they have a “Type One” malfunction (when you want and expect the gun to go “bang” but you get the loudest sound on earth... the “CLICK” instead of the “BANG!” you were hoping for.

Anyway, as I was saying, if you have now found out that you are indeed anticipating, there are two things that you can do to rectify the issue, but it will take 100% pure concentration and effort on your part to make it an ingrained reflex that will eventually override your already pre-programed response to anticipate. One of the two following methods will work if you apply it 100%. I am warning you up front, if you give 99% it wonʼt work, so when I am giving you the following methods, stick to them with 100% concentration, or all bets are off.

First Anticipation Breaker Drill

Once you are loaded appropriately and safely, and you are now pointed in on the target at your aiming area, and your finger is on the trigger, the slack is out, and you are sure you have perfect sight alignment, and AS you are continually adding gradual pressure, pressing that trigger straight and evenly to the rear, I want you to keep looking at that clear front sight properly aligned in the rear sight and say to yourself “I am pressing

and I want the shot to go off, but just not yet” AND MEAN IT! This isnʼt some magic mantra, it is a mental override of the anticipation reflex. By giving your mind one thing to think about “just not yet... just not yet... not yet...” while you are pressing, you can achieve a surprise break because you are gradually applying pressure as you mentally and visually focus on sight alignment and you are forcing yourself to surprise yourself with that break by letting the shot break, but just not yet... Again, you have to MEAN IT, not just say it.

Second Anticipation Breaker Drill

The first drill usually works for most people, but some people are more visually powered than verbally powered, so I always like to give this alternate yet equally powerful technique, we call it “Driving the Sights”.

The concept is pretty simple to apply. The idea is that as you press the trigger straight to the rear, there is a device that is attached to your front sight which is pulling the front sight to the rear in conjunction with the trigger (yeah, simple minded, but it works)... So the concept is this:

Once you are loaded appropriately and safely, and you are now pointed in on the target at your aiming area, and your finger is on the trigger, the slack is out, and you are sure you have perfect sight alignment... AS you are pressing I want you to keep looking at that clear front sight properly aligned in the rear sight and say to yourself “I am pressing and I want to ʻdriveʼ this front sight (that is supposedly moving to the rear at the same time) straight through the rear sight. And as you continue to evenly and gradually apply pressure to the trigger, you make certain that as that front sight is being “pressed rearward” that it is being

415.234.6757 [20] WWW.PULSEFIREARMSTRAINING.COM

“driven” between the rear sights. It is being “driven” evenly, with the tip of the front sight staying level with fuzzy rear sights, and with equal amounts of light on both sides of the front sight... remember, you are “driving” the front sight properly aligned the entire time, through the rear sight, while you keep adding gradual pressure to the trigger, because itʼs the trigger that is “pulling” your front sight towards your rear sights and itʼs your job to keep it appropriately aligned all the way through the surprise break.

Once the shot breaks, continue to hold the trigger to the rear for that proper reset that we talked about earlier, and keep looking for your proper sight alignment for that proper follow through.

Now, if you have done that 3 times, go ahead and bring your target in and marvel a t t h e a m a z i n g accuracy that you just achieved, go home and frame it.. itʼs all good. Then shoot just like that a lot more today in order to ingrain that into your mind, and continue to shoot just like that every time that you go to the range to ensure that you are engraining the correct technique need to master combative sighted fire.

Any questions?
