Chairman's MessageCII Thiruvananthapuram Zone
As a past founding member of Yi,
It gives me a great pleasure to see the astounding
success of Yi initiatives in our country where the dreams
and aspirations of the younger generation are soaring to
newer and greater heights. The Yi Thiruvananthapuram
Chapter under Mr Alex Ajith Philip's leadership has seen
some great activities under all its Focus Areas. The year
started with the CitYi Colours Project, jointly organized
with CII which was a grand success with over 200
volunteers.
Yi's initiatives in leadership development, arts, heritage
and environmental consciousness, have engaged the
student community who have been truly a powerful arm
of Yi. The special initiatives such as the Yi Wheelchair
friendly India Project truly prove the important role an
organization like Young Indians can play in our society.
The year has witnessed a lot of hard work, unflinching
commitment and efforts by the Young Indians. I believe
and hope that the coming year under the incoming
Chair would bring about even more positive
participation and initiatives that would further

consolidate and strengthen the indomitable Yi spirit of
“We Can, We Will”.
We would like to see many more joint initiatives in the
coming year between CII and Yi. This will enhance the
overall productivity of the organizations.
I felicitate the entire team of Yi led by Alex Ajith Philip for
their passion and hard work. Here's wishing there would
be many more such achievements in the years to come.
Chair's MessageYi ChapterThiruvananthapuram
As Chair of the Young Indians,
chapter, the last one year has been a wonderful
experience for me. We as an organization have moved
forward a lot from where we started, four years back.
Being a part of this journey, so far, has been a great
satisfying one for me.
Last one year has been a year of venturing into the
public domain for Young Indians, Thiruvananthapuram.
We were able to successfully conduct the CitYi Colours
on our Independence Day attracting lot of
Thiruvananthapuram-ites who became aware of our
organization and what we stand for. Seeing the work
that we carried out, other organizations also invited us
to help them out with similar initiatives.
At the membership engagement level also, we were
able to conduct various activities in the last one year. All
these activities had been a success because of the
unstinted support and cooperation from the chapter
members as well as from the Yi secretariat.
Let us uphold the vision of our organization - To be the
voice of Young Indians globally, in the future as well.
This most powerful rallying point, certainly inspires the
spirit of patriotism in all of us. Let us also strive to keep
the spirit of innovation, excellence, leadership and

learning to be very much part of our organization. We
should continue the activities under the various
verticals and be part of the national events and
international missions that are being carried out by Yi
national.
As I relinquish the post of the chapter chair, I would like
to thank Srikant Suryanarayanan, National Chair and
Kumara Guru, National Co-chair and Prasanna

guidance and support. I would also like to thank the CII
Kerala State Chairman, Mr. C J George and also CII
Thiruvananthapuram Zone Chairman, Mr. Harikrishnan
Nair for all their help and encouragement. I also express
my heartfelt gratitude to all members of our chapter,
and also to our past chairs, EC members, CII Members

chair, Mr. Nishant Nambiar and co-chair Mr. Mathews
Veliyath for the year ahead. I hope we will continue to
strive hard for our goals in the coming years as well, and
thus take Yi to greater heights. But this can only be
done with the help of our Yi members.
So lets all join hands and work towards a change, and I
know that “We Can, We Will”.

Yi ACTIVITIES 2013 - 2014Yi Thiruvananthapuram Chapter
Young Indians – Thiruvananthapuram Chapter
The year 2013 – 14 has been an eventful year
for Yi Thiruvananthapuram Chapter under
the leadership of Mr. Alex Ajith Philip, Chair
and Mr. Nishant Nambiar, Co Chair. During
the year there has been 7 learning sessions,
2 environmental activities, among this 'CiYi
Colours' initiative was one of the significant
chapter event. Yi Thiruvananthapuram
chapter has strength of 32 members in the
present year. Yi Thiruvananthapuram
chapter has done various initiatives and
events under its various verticals.
Alongside the business session of Yi annual
day, a special public session on the theme
“Youth – Ethics & Social Contributions” was
organized.
With every passing year the ideology and
outlook of the youth is changing. We see a
growing problem with the moral fabric of
today's young people. With the right
motivation and right guidance this could
change, and help build a better world
tomorrow. After all that's what we aim for
“We Can, We Will”
The speaker for the session was Mr. Shaffi
Mather, Chief Economic Advisor to the Chief
Minister, Government of Kerala.
Mr. Shaffi Mather shared his entrepreneurial
experience, with the members and Yi net
students, it was really an inspiring speech.
He not only mentioned about his success
but also the failures that he had to face while
setting up the 1298 for ambulance service.
It's a for profit service with a sliding scale
payment that has revolutionized medical
transport in Mumbai and Kerala. He also
spoke about his personal experience which
led to the idea of starting such a service. The
most interesting fact was that, in the
Mumbai terror attack, it was his 1298
ambulance service that reached the
location first, even before the media and
police. They were able to evacuate most of
the people, and get them to the hospital in
time. Stories of his entrepreneurial journey
were most inspiring.
Mr. Alex Ajith Philip, Chair Yi (Thiruvanan
thapuram Chapter) and Managing Director,
Mamre Technologies gave the opening
remarks and welcomed the members and
introduced the speaker sitting on the dais.

ENVIRONMENT
With cities changing along with time and
seasons. We have seen diverse changes in
the Architecture and infrastructure of the city
over the times. But certain practices still
remain unchanged which affects the beauty
of the city. A beautiful city is always a dream
of the people living in it and art can help
make this happen.
With this context, Yi Thiruvananthapuram
decided to take up an exciting project to
identify, cleanup and paint certain walls in
the city, which are covered with posters and
banners which destroys the beauty of the
city. This was in association with the students
from the Architecture Department of College
of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram,
students from other colleges and schools like
Loyola School, Christ Nagar School, NISH,
and Fine Arts College were also a part of this
initiative. The painting was based on themes
like Indian Tri-colour, Empowerment of
Women, Our Cultural heritage etc since the
project was done on our 67th Independence
