Black owned businesses in the United States increased
60.5% between 2002 and 2007 totaling of 1.9 million
Black firms. More than 94% of these businesses are made
up of sole proprietorships or partnerships which have no
paid employees. Nearly 4 in 10 black-owned
businesses (more than 700,000) in 2007 operated in the
health care, social assistance; and other services such as
repair, maintenance, personal and laundry services
sectors.
Census Bureau Reports the Number of Black-Owned Businesses Increased at Triple the National Rate
From 2002 to 2007, the number of black-owned businesses increased by 60.5 percent to 1.9 million, more than triple the national rate of 18.0 percent, according to the U.S. Census Bureau's Survey of Business Owners. Over the same period, receipts generated by black-owned businesses increased 55.1 percent to $137.5 billion.
Black People & Social Media Usage
Twitter according to Edison Research Annual Reporting in 2010 via Business Insider,
Black People, who account for about 12% of the population in general, makes up 25% of
the Twitter population. The percentages of Black teens have increased since this study
was completed. Additionally the black population on Face Book’s last study shows that
the number of black people on face book mirrors our US population. Just using the two
of the top social media sites that show a large Black population how is it that many black
people still repeat in error the myths of no black businesses or they are hard to find. It is
ironic as most of the 2 million business use social media to promote their business. There
are also countless on line Black Directories using social media to assist in finding Black
