At Urban Green Design we have developed and patented a new system for all types of green areas, the Green Wit: an instant garden in a self-carry-ing structure, moldable and adaptable to any shape and need.Vertical gardens have emerged as new construction components for buildings: they increasegreen areas in urban settings, fight the heat island effect and improve life’s quality of people who live surrounded by asphalt. Until now these were limited to opaque vertical gardens (green walls) or horizontal (green roofs) systems, so far, thought with little substrate and, consequently, with plants that require very high and constant water intake. In ad-dition, given the little substrate, its mineral material runs out, causing prema-ture death of plants. Urban Green Design has opened a new path of research on vertical gardening, designing a translucent structure that allows choosing the degree of lighting you want to enjoy.

Since the root of the plant is a key organ of this, which works as anchor and absorbs water and minerals, Urban Green Design has prioritized its welfare in the design of green walls.

Green Wit is a system that ensures the growth of the plant with virtually no maintenance and its design is the result of years of experience the Urban Green Design team has accumulated.

Characteristics

The plant wall patented by Urban Green Design consists of: container tray, subjection or self-supporting structure, irrigation system, home automation, integrated lighting, and all the elements and systems requiring each particular project. The design of the trays containing substrate arises from the optimization of form and functionality, fundamental standards for Urban Green Design’s team. This ensures that the root of the plant develops properly and the plant shows nicely, either hanging or vertical growth, according to the desired final image and adaptable to both, inside and outside.

The subject trays can go directly to the wall or through self-supporting structure that incorporates inside the irrigation system, drainage and electricity for lighting and domotics. For the distance between the trays composition and distribution, type and composition of plant species, as well as the relationship of the system with the environment (wall, facade, roof, street, garden ...), the Green Wit system has a personalized response to your project.

All materials used are biocompatible Green Wit ensuring development species, maximum durability and minimum system maintenance.

/ Mouldable structure, either horitzontal or vertical, which can be placed anywhere of the building: inner patios, walls, façades, pergolas, roofs, etc. with any desired shape straight, curve, with volume…

/ Assembly on existing wall or through free-standing self-supporting structure.

/ Ideal for new construction, rehabilitation and reform.

/ Easy maintenance and low water consumption. Fully automated watering with GPRS connection to allow its control from anywhere in the world via smart phone.

/ Utilisation of substrate with special low density blend

/ Irrigation equipment consisting of homopolymer of PVC (CPVC) inert to most acids, minerals, bases, salts and aliphatic hydrocarbons.

Advantages

/ Low maintenance.

/ Low water consumption.

/Innovative aesthetics.

/ Possibility of installation on a self-supporting structure.

/ Universal Support: Possibility to integrate lighting, mobile or fixed slats, waterfalls, solar pan-els, carpentry ... and any element compatible with the system.

/ Possibility to use low water requirements of plants and / or native.

/ Reduction of the thermal load of buildings up to 5ºC, ie costs less to heat and cool, which rep-resents a reduction of carbon emissions.

/Reduce the heat island effect because it reflects less heat.

/ Filtration capacity of harmful gases: 60m2 filter 40Tn / year according to the study of Wolver-ton 1989.

/ Heavy metal retention capacity: 60m2 retain and process 15kg / year according to the study of Darlington 2001.

Page 15: We bring green into asphalt

/ Humidify and cool the atmosphere by the same water cycle of plants.

/ Air purification, plants trap dust and heavy metals and filter harmful gases.

/ Sound insulation and vibration.

/ Get fauna to cities in increasing their natural habitat.

/ Aesthetic function of urban beautification.

/ Health and wellness. Reduce stress and increase personal wellbeing.

/ Revalue the building and its surroundings. Adding an element of landscape quality as a cur-tain plant increases the economic value of a property. It also increases the general interest in the building with the ability to attract tenants, buyers, businesses, etc.

/ Branding. Create brand. Differentiates your company from the rest and reveals your interest in the environment. / Protect the building from weather harshness, erosion and pollution.

/ Positive input to achieve LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) certification system for sustainable buildings developed by the U.S. Green Building Council

/ Captures CO2 and produces O2: 1m2 of vegetation cover generates oxygen necessary for a person in a year.

/ Comfort and production are increased and inconveniences to people reduced to those who have vegetation in their workplace according to the study Lohr et al. 1996 Bringslimark et al. 2007. Also, in closed environments, reduces physical discomfort such as skin moisture, dry air, exhaustion, etc; in addition to the positive psychological effects that nature provides to humans.

Smart Watering

Remote smart irrigation system. Own remote-handling system with cutting-edge technology via GPRS and CPD data processor, which ensures full effectiveness and optimization of the irrigation system economizing to the maximum given the simplification of the process.

It requires an iXreg device and computer system which, with minimum energy consumotion, allows the user to manage it via computer, tablet, smart phone, etc... without installing communication infrastructures such as repeaters: irrigation programmers are directly connected to the central system via GPRS and their control is done by an specially designed software for and intuitive use.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

The software supports the ability to connect humidity probes, flow meters, rain gauge, internal temperature sensor, weather station, battery level sensors and leak detection, among other options.

Accessible via web in real time, it allows to configure each irrigation program, the historical view of all measured values (temperature, volume of irrigation, battery status, etc.)., managing programmers, view alarms generated in the hydraulic system and arriving via mail to the user, etc.

ADVANTAGES OF REMOTE MANAGEMENT

The tracking and monitoring of all irrigation programmers allow guaranteeing the maximum efficiency regarding classical systems.

The scales set in the software, together with sensors and weather station, allow to automate on a 100% the system, establishing all the possibilities which would be impossible to control manually. Watering only when the humidity probes detect the need, the flow meters warn of system irregularities, leak detection probes warn if there is flooding in some sectors, etc. This allows the immediat correction of any incident promoting the good being and developement of the plant species.

FAQ

Is it possible zero maintenance in a construction with plants?

No. All living being require minimal maintenance. The Green Wit system of Urban Green Design minimizes maintenance thanks to the planting of plant species adapted to the environment, as well as the optimization of substrate, irrigation systems and management system.

How is it enough the slats depth for plants?

We use a substrate based on peat and coconut fiber, because it has a physical stability and quality superior to other organic mixtures consisting of bark and wood floors, weighing three times less. In addition, it is allowed in most countries of the world, without health restrictions.

Why do we spend little water?

We use exclusive irrigation software, Smart Watering, which has full control over the state of the plant detecting, through sensors, the water or fertilizer required and using it only when necessary.

Why is it instant?

Upon acceptance of the budget we start plant production in the most suitable containers to grow for a maximum height or length of the edges. The vegetation cover at the time of assembly will depend on the time that has been arranged.

Can we reuse rainwater?

Yes. This water requires no treatment. The water is filtered and ready for use but, as in the case of gray waters, only twice, since it would salinize the substrate and kill the plant. Green Wit allows the implementation of collection, storage and management of gray water systems for irrigation.
