Opening Song Set: “Holy God, We Praise Thy Name”

Holy God, we praise Thy name; Lord of all, we bow before Thee. All on earth Thy scepter claim, All in heaven above adore Thee. Infinite Thy vast domain, Everlasting is Thy reign.

Hark! The glad celestial hymn Angel choirs above are raising; Cherubim and seraphim, In unceasing chorus praising, Fill the heav’ns with sweet accord: Holy, holy, holy Lord!

Thou art King of Glory, Christ; Son of God, yet born of Mary. For us sinners sacrificed, As to death a Tributary, First to break the bars of death, Thou hast opened heav’n to faith.

Holy Father, Holy Son, Holy Spirit, Three we name Thee; Though in essence only One, Undivided God we claim Thee And, adoring, bend the knee While we own the mystery.

“God of Wonders”

Lord of all creation, of water, earth and sky, The heavens are Your tabernacle; Glory to the Lord on high.

God of wonders beyond our galaxy, You are holy, holy; The universe declares Your majesty. You are holy, holy; Lord of heaven and earth, Lord of heaven and earth.

Early in the morning I will celebrate the light, And as I stumble in the darkness I will call Your name by night.

God of wonders beyond our galaxy, You are holy, holy; The universe declares Your majesty. You are holy, holy; Lord of heaven and earth, Lord of heaven and earth.

Hallelujah! to the Lord of heaven and earth. Hallelujah! to the Lord of heaven and earth. Hallelujah! to the Lord of heaven and earth.

Genesis 1:1-2:4a ESV

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. 2The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.

3And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. 5God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.

6And God said, “Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.” 7And God made the expanse and separated the waters that were under the expanse from the waters that were above the expanse. And it was so. 8And God called the expanse Heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, the second day.

9And God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear.” And it was so. 10God called the dry land Earth, and the waters that were gathered together he called Seas. And God saw that it was good.

Page 6: We as in Mef838bb269167a3f3e1e4-f522ed318e928ea232defd9968f9ad75.r93.c… · 6 11And God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit

6

11And God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind, on the earth.” And it was so. 12The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed according to their own kinds, and trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 13And there was evening and there was morning, the third day.

14And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years, 15and let them be lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth.” And it was so. 16And God made the two great lights—the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night—and the stars. 17And God set them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, 18to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19And there was evening and there was morning, the fourth day.

20 And God said, “Let the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the heavens.” 21So God created the great sea creatures and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarm, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.” 23And there was evening and there was morning, the fifth day.

24And God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds—livestock and creeping things and beasts of the earth according to their kinds.” And it was so. 25And God made the beasts of the earth according to their kinds and the livestock according to their kinds, and everything that creeps on the ground according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.

26Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

27So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

28And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” 29And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food. 30And to

every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so. 31And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.

2 1Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. 2And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. 3So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation. 4These are the generations of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens.

Mathew 28:16-20 ESV

16Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. 18And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Children’s Message

Athanasian Creed

Leader: Whoever desires to be saved must, above all, hold the catholic faith. Congregation: Whoever does not keep it whole and undefiled will without doubt perish eternally.

Leader: And the catholic faith is this, Congregation: that we worship one God in Trinity and Trinity in Unity, neither confusing the persons nor dividing the substance.

Leader: For the Father is one person, the Son is another, and the Holy Spirit is another. Congregation: But the Godhead of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit is one: the glory equal, the majesty coeternal.

Page 8: We as in Mef838bb269167a3f3e1e4-f522ed318e928ea232defd9968f9ad75.r93.c… · 6 11And God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit

8

Leader: Such as the Father is, such is the Son, and such is the Holy Spirit: Congregation: the Father uncreated, the Son uncreated, the Holy Spirit uncreated;

Leader: the Father infinite, the Son infinite, the Holy Spirit infinite; Congregation: the Father eternal, the Son eternal, the Holy Spirit eternal.

Leader: And yet there are not three Eternals, but one Eternal, Congregation: just as there are not three Uncreated or three Infinites, but one Uncreated and one Infinite.

Leader: In the same way, the Father is almighty, the Son almighty, the Holy Spirit almighty; Congregation: and yet there are not three Almighties, but one Almighty.

Leader: So the Father is God, the Son is God, the Holy Spirit is God; Congregation: and yet there are not three Gods, but one God.

Leader: So the Father is Lord, the Son is Lord, the Holy Spirit is Lord; Congregation: and yet there are not three Lords, but one Lord.

Leader: Just as we are compelled by the Christian truth to acknowledge each distinct person as God and Lord, so also are we prohibited by the catholic religion to say that there are three Gods or Lords. Congregation: The Father is not made nor created nor begotten by anyone.

Leader: The Son is neither made nor created, but begotten of the Father alone. Congregation: The Holy Spirit is of the Father and of the Son, neither made nor created nor begotten, but proceeding.

Leader: Thus, there is one Father, not three Fathers; one Son, not three Sons; one Holy Spirit, not three Holy Spirits. Congregation: And in this Trinity none is before or after another; none is greater or less than another;

Leader: but the whole three persons are coeternal with each other and coequal, so that in all things, as has been stated above, the Trinity in Unity and Unity in Trinity is to be worshiped. Congregation: Therefore, whoever desires to be saved must think thus about the Trinity.

Leader: But it is also necessary for everlasting salvation that one faithfully believe the incarnation of our Lord Jesus Christ. Congregation: Therefore, it is the right faith that we believe and confess that our Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is at the same time both God and man.

Page 9: We as in Mef838bb269167a3f3e1e4-f522ed318e928ea232defd9968f9ad75.r93.c… · 6 11And God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit

9

Leader: He is God, begotten from the substance of the Father before all ages; and He is man, born from the substance of His mother in this age: Congregation: perfect God and perfect man, composed of a rational soul and human flesh;

Leader: equal to the Father with respect to His divinity, less than the Father with respect to His humanity. Congregation: Although He is God and man, He is not two, but one Christ:

Leader: one, however, not by the conversion of the divinity into flesh, but by the assumption of the humanity into God; Congregation: one altogether, not by confusion of substance, but by unity of person.

Leader: For as the rational soul and flesh is one man, so God and man is one Christ, Congregation: who suffered for our salvation, descended into hell, rose again the third day from the dead,

Leader: ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father, God Almighty, from whence He will come to judge the living and the dead. Congregation: At His coming all people will rise again with their bodies and give an account concerning their own deeds.

Leader: And those who have done good will enter into eternal life, and those who have done evil into eternal fire. Congregation: This is the catholic faith; whoever does not believe it faithfully and firmly cannot be saved.

Sermon Song: “Holy, Holy, Holy”

Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty! Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee; Holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty! God in Three Persons, blessed Trinity!

Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore Thee, Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea; Cherubim and seraphim falling down before Thee, Which wert and art and evermore shalt be.

10

Holy, holy, holy! Though the darkness hide Thee, Though the eye of sinful man Thy glory may not see, Only Thou art holy; there is none beside Thee, Perfect in power, in love, and purity.

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty! All Thy works shall praise Thy name in earth and sky and sea. Holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty! God in Three Persons, blessed Trinity!

Sermon: “We as in Me ” Genesis 1 What do the following statements tell us about God? “Let there be light!” “Let us make man in our own image.” As the Triune God creates and enlightens the world, He reveals Himself. Creation reminds us basic things have a divine signature.

Life Group Questions

Head (what?)

How is each person of the Trinity involved in creation? How does God bring order through creating? What does it mean to be made in the image of God? How does the creation of man compare to the rest of creation?

Heart (so what?)

What responsibilities come with being made in the image of God? What is still good about the world? What difference does God’s ongoing for His creation make in your life during this pandemic? What deep questions of life does the creation account answer?

Hands (now what?)

Does resting on the seventh day imply being unproductive? Why or why not? How is God directing you to show appreciation for both people and things He has created? Comment: “Creation is an expression of beauty and love from God and within God.” What is God asking you to do to “make each day count”?

Song of Response: “Here I Am to Worship”

Light of the World, You stepped down into darkness, Opened my eyes, let me see. Beauty that made this heart adore You, Hope of a life spent with You.

Here I am to worship, here I am to bow down, Here I am to say that You’re my God. You’re altogether lovely, altogether worthy, Altogether wonderful to me.

King of all days, oh so highly exalted, Glorious in heaven above. Humbly You came to the earth You created, All for love’s sake became poor.

Here I am to worship, here I am to bow down, Here I am to say that You’re my God. You’re altogether lovely, altogether worthy, Altogether wonderful to me.

And I’ll never know how much it cost To see my sin, upon that cross I’ll never know how much it cost To see my sin, upon that cross.

Here I am to worship, here I am to bow down, Here I am to say that You’re my God. You’re altogether lovely, altogether worthy, Altogether wonderful to me.

Prayers

Leader: Triune God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we adore You for Your Threeness and Oneness, a holy mystery. Your ways are higher than our ways, Your thoughts greater than our thoughts, so although we acknowledge that we do not always understand Your ways, we continue to offer You our prayers for

creation and its care . . . the nations of the world . . . our nation and its leaders . . . this community and those in authority . . . the church universal as it works on your behalf . . . this local church in its ministry . . . persons with particular needs . . .

We pray in the name of the triune God, Three in One, from eternity to eternity. Congregation: Amen.

Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven; Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory

forever and ever. Amen.

Sending

Leader: Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.

—Matthew 28:19-20, NRSV

Blessing

Leader: The peace of God, which passes all understanding, keep your hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God, and of our Savior, Jesus Christ; and the blessing of God Almighty, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, be among you and remain with you always. Congregation: Amen.

Closing Song: “Our God Is Faithful and Able”

Our God is faithful and able to keep us holy, To walk us fully into the land; He is a mighty warrior Who rules in mercy, His name is worthy of all of our praise.

The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it; His Kingdom of love be decreed. Let all of creation rise up and adore Him And say with a shout: “We’re redeemed!”

Our God is faithful and able to keep us holy, To walk us fully into the land; He is a mighty warrior Who rules in mercy, His name is worthy of all our praise.

Friendship Celebration Announcements ~ June 7, 2020

Worship Plans: At their May 31 meeting, the Board of Elders decided to begin in-person worship on June 14 at the 9 am service. This approach gives people another choice of worship forums: online, outside and inside. The Elders recognize the decision to worship together is a personal one as health circumstances and situations warrant. Each person’s choices will be honored and respected especially as we seek the best for one another.

The following guidelines for in-person worship (indoors) are presented with Christian love for another as our motivation. Wearing facemasks is strongly encouraged as it helps to protect others in attendance. Social distancing (keeping 6’ or more between you and others apart from your household) should be observed. If you are ill or have had a fever recently, please refrain from attending. Chairs in the sanctuary have been arranged to allow individuals space as well as for couples and families to sit together. If necessary, we will use the classrooms for overflow space to view the service online. In addition, we are taking steps to increase ventilation. To ease the flow of people as they enter, bulletins will already be placed on chairs. Instead of offering plates being passed, several baskets will be available in the front to receive the offering. On Communion Sundays, the elements of the meal will be available on tables for people to come forward and receive. Upon returning to their seats, we will commune together. The nursery, while available for parents to use, will not be staffed. Finally, bathrooms have been equipped with touchless automatic soap and paper towel dispensers.

As a reminder, since the outdoor service is weather-dependent, please read the Friday Friendly 411 for updated status on this service. If weather is an issue, the outdoor service will be cancelled, not moved inside. (To subscribe to the Friendly 411, send an e-mail to [email protected]). Hats, sunglasses, umbrellas and water bottles are encouraged. We are also purchasing several shade structures to help keep people comfortable. On Pentecost, May 31, 108 people attended the 11 am outdoor service.

Beginning July 5 and continuing throughout the summer, the 9 am and 11 am services will switch places because of the warmer weather. For July and August, the 9 am service will be outdoors and the 11 am service will be indoors. By moving the outdoor service up two hours, we hope to benefit from cooler morning air and avoid the overhead sun. This decision seeks to provide forums that best meet the needs of people who gather. Both the 9 am and 11 am services will continue to be livestreamed on Facebook Live and also later made available on the church website. Whether you join us for worship online, outside or inside, thank you for honoring the needs of others, the fellowship we share and the worship life of the congregation!

Youth Group-FYI- Since we have to be outside for FCLC youth Group and it is supposed to be only 51 degrees and rainy we will cancelled this Sunday. We will be back on June 14th.

Are you ready for Summer? This question seems to have more weight this year and is why I am excited to announce: We are having a 2020 Summer Day Camp this summer! ...but the start date has been pushed back to July 6th running five weeks until August 7th. We need to do this in order to make sure that we are able to provide a safe and fun environment for your children; therefore, we have pushed back our early registration deadline to June 7th. Charlie Young is back this summer as our Program Director and we are working hard to make adjustments that ensure we are able to hold a camp that is as safe as possible during this time of C19. Here are a few examples of what we are working on:

1. Check-in and check-out procedures (we are using the CDC guidelines for school, camps, and daycares to update how we will handle this – More info will be coming soon)

2. Program/sessions spacing (we are spacing out our sessions so that we do not have campers in a station right after another cabin group has used it. This will give us time to clean and disinfect each station in between use).

3. We have added hands free soap and towel dispensers to our bathroom facilities.

4. Our lunch and snack time will be separated into their own cabin groups by grade level.

5. We are adding time in between each session/activity to ensure all campers and staff wash their hands (we hope to be adding outdoor sinks for this)

6. We are hiring our own staff for deeper cleaning every night to ensure that all surfaces are cleaned and disinfected.

7. We are adding C19 practices and procedures into our staff training. We also are meeting weekly to continue to discuss how we can best offer a safe and fun camp experience for your children.

You will find the 2020 Summer Day Camp registration and more information on our website: www.friendshipcelebration.org. We hope you are safe and healthy during this time, and we hope to see you this summer! In Christ, Brett Lindemood – Camp Director

Let’s Stay Connected! The best time to contact the church office is Tuesdays and Fridays, 11am – 3pm. The church staff is available throughout the week (see contact info below) as well as ministry teams and your Elder. As spiritual or physical needs arise—such as food, medicine, transportation—please let us know! The church is still active in ministry through online and in-person worship services on Sundays, prayer support, online classes/visits and other ways of encouragement. Methods may change, but the work of ministry and showing love for one another continues. Together in the Spirit, let’s grow in Christ and help others do the same (Gal. 6:9-10).
