Volunteers are Valuable
We are Vancouver. We Volunteer!
Vancouver believes:
• Our community is strengthened by individuals who act on their
commitment to help others,
• Volunteering improves citizens’ accessibility to government,
• Service is an effective strategy for solving problems,
• Opportunities for all, young to elderly, fosters a sense of community
where everyone is valued and welcomed,
• Volunteers strengthen our community, increase government
effectiveness and create benefits for citizens, including being more
informed, engaged, and feeling valued and appreciated.

Volunteer Policy Overview
Our mission:
The City of Vancouver is committed to creating opportunities for all
citizens to become engaged in volunteer service to the city. Staff will
provide a work environment where volunteers are valued and
respected for contributing their time and talents to our diverse
community and its citizens.
We are Vancouver. We Volunteer!
Volunteer Policy Overview Our vision:
• Community members will recognize the City of Vancouver’s volunteer
program as a meaningful, seamless and responsive organization.
• Citizens will share their positive volunteer experience with other
potential volunteers.
• A large cadre of volunteers will be available to assist during special
events and outreach opportunities.
• Staff believe they are vital to the success of the volunteer program and
are engaged in the work done by volunteers. Staff will continually look
for opportunities for citizen volunteers to supplement and support their
department.
