An introduction to the use of satellite products for Ocean Color Remote Sensing (Ximena Aguilar – Vega) Monday 23rd 18:30-20:30 hrs
Scope: The basics of Optical Oceanography required to understand the principles of the study of the Ocean from optical remote sensing will be provided. On the other hand, the platforms and tools for the acquisition, processing and basic analysis of satellite products will be shown, as well as the application of each of them. The acquisition, processing and basic analysis of optical satellite products will be carried out through open access platforms and softwares such as Copernicus Hub and NASA Ocean Color Web, as well as SNAP and SeaDAS respectively. Finally, through a case study the participants will put into practice all the concepts and tools seen during the workshop.
Learning Objectives: 1. Understand the basics of Optical Oceanography; 2. Recognize the active missions and characteristics of the sensors for Ocean Color; 3. Identify the application of the satellite products; 4. Know the open and active platforms for the acquisition of the products; 5. Learn the basics of SNAP and SeaDAS for satellite products; 6. Analysis of Agricultural Areas (Small Crop Fields) with Sentinel -2 Dense Time Series (Yady Tatiana Solano-Correa) Wednesday 25th, 18:30-20:30 hrs
Scope: Satellite Image Time Series (SITS), like those by Sentinel-2 (S2) satellites, provides a large amount of information relevant in precision agriculture, especially while considering small crop fields. In the past, information about agricultural practices have been collected over large regions and irregular time spans, and focused on mixed/aggregated crops due to the poor trade-off between spatial and temporal resolutions. In conclusion, no existing automatic method: i) effectively works at small fields level; and ii) deals with data irregularly sampled in time. This tutorial aims at presenting a methodology suitable for the analysis of small crop fields in S2 dense SITS that accounts for S2 characteristics in an automatic manner.

Radar Satellite Images Applications, by means of open access tools and digital platform (Carlos Cardenas) Tuesday 24th 18:30-20:30 hrs
Scope: The following tutorial describes to the participant, basic theoretical foundations to understand the processing of radar satellite images, aimed at generating a digital interferometric terrain model, using the open source SNAP software from ESA (Europe Space Agency), as well as determining the speed of surface displacement of the glacier flux, through Offset Tracking processing. For this, two case studies will be presented, which will be explained step by step in a practical way, until you get your results.

Argo Monitoring Technologies (Bruno Goncalvez Pereire) Monday 23rd 18:30-22:30 hrs Scope: The ARGO is major program of observational oceanography in operational and ARGO float array are the most effective technologies to acquire real-time, long-term ocean data at both basin and global scales. This workshop is an initiative to organize the bases for the development of the ARGO program in Latin America, starting with the creation of a regional Centre for receiving and processing data from the ARGO and BGC-ARGO program.
Learning Objectives: 1. Provide participants with a review of what the Argo and BGC-Argo program is and their scientific applications. 2. Know ARGO data quality control methods. 3. Discuss the procedures for composing the ARGO program and strategies for expanding the numbers of floats in the South Atlantic and Pacific Ocean.
Optimising parameter for structure from motion capture of natural resource information (Luke Wallace) Wednesday 25th, 18:30-22:30 hrs
Scope: The workshop aims to inform users of the many pitfalls of using point clouds derived from Structure from Motion processes, and looks to highlight techniques that can mitigate these issues. Participants will firstly be given a theoretical overview of data capture and data processing best practice, including variation of flight parameters including capture spacing, capture orientation and capture duplication, in order to produce the best results for the application. The workshop will then involve a small data capture campaign, including flight planning, and particpants will then be involved in processing data from the capture using Metashape and Cloudcompare to produce metrics.
Learning Objectives: 1. To obtain a basic knowledge of how flight parameters (flying height and speed, capture overlap and orientation) can improve data capture outcomes. 2.To obtain knowledge of the workflows invloved in processing Structure from Motion data to improve repeatability and comprehensiveness of resultant point cloud data. 3. Scope: It is well known that forests play an important role not only because of the diversity of species, but also because of the carbon sequestration of the atmosphere. In recent decades, the loss of forests, especially tropical forests, has increased mainly due to the spread of agriculture, fires, gold mining, among other activities. Therefore, monitoring methodologies are needed for rapid and effective monitoring, so that decision-makers can apply public and/or private policies to reverse this situation. This tutorial is framed in showing conventional approaches to detecting change, but also the latest non-seasonal approaches to monitoring forest disturbance. Student, researcher or general audience may have a notion of the latest advances in forest mapping methodologies.

Scope: SatCO2 is a marine satellite data online analysis platform it is that can simultaneously fulfil visualization and project scientific calculations of multiple-sources marine satellite data, in situ data, and modelling products on a three-dimensional virtual Earth. This software is developed by the State Key Laboratory of Satellite Ocean Environment Dynamics (SOED) of Second Institute of Oceanography, State Oceaninc Administration (SOA), China and the Zheijang Provincial Key Laboratory of Geographic Information System (ZJU). This tutorial proposal is opportunity for beginner remote sensing users develops analyses skills on imagery ocean from space.
Learning Objectives: The training tutorial aims to facilitate and promote interaction and cooperation between scientists aiming at integrating satellite remote sensing data and biogeochemical studies for a better understanding of the ocean carbon system. Explore the core functions of the SatCO2 platform for remote sensing data visualization and product design from a variety of space programs. Perform online analysis of long time series satellite data; user-defined algorithms and interactive analysis across multiple data sources (satellite, in situ simulation and model) and ability to integrate application-specific modules: marine carbon budgter estimation and HAB detection.
Using remote sensing data into marine monitoring activities/programs (Eduardo Santa María) Wednesday 25th, 18:30-22:30 hrs
Scope: The principal goal is weighing the remote sensing data in marine monitoring activities o programs. With almost 40 years in SST and 20 in Chlasat, these data could be used to building in the future a long time series to detected long-term changes in marine and coastal ecosystems to distinguish natural variability from anthropogenic perturbations. To do that we need know the base on these kinds of estimations considering the time and space variability. We need understand the basic principles of remote sensing oceanography to understand these geophysical values.
Learning Objectives: The principal goal of this workshop is the participant could understand and weighing the use of the remote sensing observation to be use in marine/costal monitoring activities. In the same way establish the validation protocols and supervised classification using in situ data. The specific objectives are: 1. Extract geophysical values from radiometric satellite imagery. 2. Develop the longest possible time series un some station. 3. Weigh the use of multisensor composites in daily weekly, monthly yearly composites in cloudy place.
Earth Observation in support to the UN Sustainable Developments Goals (Mario Hernández) Tuesday 24th 18:30-22:30 hrs
Scope: One of the major challenges for the implementation of the UN SDGs is the availability of accurate data. Remote Sensing (and Photogrammetry) can significantly assist either directly to selected SDGs or even indirectly to other relevant SDGs. The proposed workshop will illustrate current examples at country level as well as the work of international organizations (e.g. GEO, etc.). The principles of the UN advisory group “Data Revolution for Sustainable Development (IEAG)” will be highlighted showing how Remote Sensing data fulfils per se the main data requirements. From experts assisting LAGIRS, a set of invited presentations will be established. Overall discussions will be encouraged.
Learning Objectives: 1. Learn about applications of Remote Sensing and how the use of Big Data is enabling the creation of specific ready-to-use data sets that are relevant for the implementation of the SDGs. 2. To learn about the need to combine RS data with socio-economic data and the difficulties to find such socio-economic data that is immediately easy to combine with other sources of data. 3. To learn how certain applications of RS are assisting to improve socio-economic data (e.g. the work of DLR and Google to improve the world urban growth monitoring). 4. Scope: This tutorial presents a novel and applicate methodology that integrates the most useful algorithms to represent the snow cover properties and its long-term variability with the aim to perform and validate energy and mass balance snow-modelling using a remote sensing, machine learning, and climatic approach taking advance of Google Engine platform.
