Excellence, Opportunity and Success
We would like to respectfully acknowledge the Elders past and present of the Wijabul Wiyabal people and other peoples of Bundjalung Nation.
We acknowledge that they are the first peoples of this land on which our school stands.
Welcome Back Principal’s Report
Welcome Back
Welcome back to another school year. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all our new students and families.
I am sure that you will have a long and happy association with Lismore Public School.
Our new Kinder students have all participated in their Best Start Assessment and started school last Friday. I have visited
the classrooms and they are all very excited and eager to learn. Kinder students have been participating in a number of
activities designed to familiarise them with school and school routines to support a smooth transition to formal education.
Students in Years 1 to 6 have also settled into new classes and have transitioned positively to their new environments. Your
child has been placed in a class using a lot of information including student friendships and the professional judgement of
teachers. Classes are unlikely to change but there may be a slight possibility based on unexpected enrolment changes.
Whilst it takes some students time to adjust to new classes, they are quite resilient and soon make new friends and build a
rapport with their teacher. Requests for changes from parents generally will be declined unless there are extenuating
circumstances. Teachers and students have spent some time getting to know each other and revising our rules of rights,
respect and responsibility. Teachers are very excited to be starting a new year and continuing to provide our students with a
variety of outstanding learning experiences.
Staff News
We would like to welcome Mr Steve McCluskie to our school team. Steve is our new School Counsellor, He has experience
in a variety of school settings and we welcome him to the Lismore Public School team. Mr McCluskie will be based at our
school on Tuesdays and Wednesdays each week.
Mrs Liz Hoskins has returned from leave and will be working with Stage 2 students in a Learning and Support role and
sharing the role of Assistant Principal stage 2 with Mrs Heather Cole. We are excited to have Mrs Hoskins back as part of
the Lismore Public School Leadership Team.
Accessing Information
Throughout the year it is important to read the newsletter and keep up to date via our Facebook page and website. The
school aims to provide information in a timely manner to assist families with planning and budgeting. If you have any
questions about an upcoming event please contact your child’s teacher in the first instance or the front office.
Update contact details
The school may need to contact parents for various reasons during the course of a school day. It is vital that contact details
and emergency contact details are correct. Anytime your address, phone numbers etc change please advise the school in
writing immediately, and we will adjust our records accordingly.

Uniforms
Parents are reminded and encouraged to ensure their child/ren is in the correct school uniform each day. It gives the
students, staff and community a sense of pride and the students also look quite smart when all together. It lets the wider
community know that our school is a great place to be.
A broad-brimmed hat and covered shoes are a must. The printed logo polo shirts and jumpers are available for purchase
from our uniform shop in D Block on Thursday mornings between 8.30 and 9.30. Uniforms can also be ordered online and
can be collected from the canteen. The P&C coordinates uniforms and enquiries regarding uniform purchases can be
made at the front office.
Before School Access
Morning supervision at Lismore Public School starts at 8.40am. Prior to this there is no formal supervision before school.
Students who are at school prior to 8.40am are required to sit in the primary COLA until supervision starts.
To ensure the safety of our students we are requesting that all students who are required to be at school prior to 8.40am
please enter the school through the front gate or the double gates at the hall. For students who do need to be at school
earlier than 8.40am before school care is available in the hall. Details are available at the front office.
Afternoon Muster
Afternoon Muster is held each afternoon from 3.00pm to 3.10pm. The purpose of Afternoon Muster is twofold. It allows for
information to be shared with students and parents / carers. It also ensures the safety of our students as they are
dismissed from school in a structured way and staff are aware of how they are leaving school grounds.
Lismore Public School hours are 9.10 am until 3.10pm. It is a legal requirement that students attend school until the end of
the school day which is 3.10pm. Students who have an appointment or other reason to leave school, as approved by the
principal, must be signed out of school at the front office. If not signed out, students not attending muster will be deemed
as having an unexplained absence. Continual unexplained absences may result in referral to the Home School Liaison
Officer. We appreciate that everybody is busy but we are asking all families to please respect our Afternoon Muster
processes and attend before taking their children home. Staff do their best to ensure Afternoon Muster ends at 3.10pm
which is our official school end time. We appreciate your support in this matter.
Swimming Carnival
Our first major carnival for the year will be our swimming carnival which will be held at the Alstonville Aquatic Centre
tomorrow. Racing will start at 10am. All students, regardless of their swimming ability, will be catered for at the carnival. All
students are expected to attend as there will be no lessons for students in Year 3 to 6 at school. All staff will be attending
the carnival. Permission notes and money should be returned to school by this afternoon. Parents and friends are
encouraged to attend to cheer on our students!
Road Safety Reminders
Parents & visitors are reminded to drive slowly and carefully around our school. It is a 40km/h zone at certain times but I
ask that you be extra vigilant around our school as sometimes young children are not concentrating and may put them-
selves in dangerous situations. If you are leaving the school during high traffic times please be vigilant with supervision.
Bike and Scooter Safety
I would like to remind all families that students riding bikes or scooters to school are required to wear helmets and abide by
the road rules. If riding on the foot path they need to be aware of pedestrians and if on the road they are required to
adhere to the road rules. Whilst these requests are made by the school to ensure student and community safety it is also a
legal requirement.
Parking
Adults are asked to be respectful of our neighbours during drop off & pick up times by not parking across residential drive-
ways. Please also be mindful of how loud audio devices are playing in your vehicle as this can impact nearby residents.
RIGHTS - Be Safe and Learn
RESPECT - Be Caring and Polite
Bus Bay Parking
Parents and visitors are reminded not to park in the bus bay from 8:00am – 9:30am and 2:45pm – 4:30pm. We have
many buses that use this interchange of a morning and afternoon and for ease of access and safety, we need this area to
be kept clear. The school appreciates your support in these matters.
Welcome back and have a lovely week!!
Jackie Nilon
Principal
In 2019 Tash’s PBL Mascot Design won by popular vote across students and parents. Since then she has been a
busy bee designing Arrrbee in different settings. Once Tash’s gorgeous designs were finished, Lismore Public School
handed them over to Clayton Lloyd from local business Flawless Imaging. Clayton volunteered his time over the
Christmas period to convert these drawings into electronic versions.
We wanted to express a huge thank you to both Tash and Clayton who went the extra mile to make our school more
colourful, inviting, supportive and fun. This helps us communicate our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) values.
Arrrbee has been buzzing around the school organising special reward days at the end of each school term. Students
who follow the 3 Rs (Rights, Respect, and Responsibility) will be invited to a special Movie Theatre session at school.
Students will be able to dress up as their favourite movie character and visit another classroom with friends to watch
the movie of their choice. So, what’s Arrrbee’s criteria?
For 8 weeks out of a term, students must not get into planning room, executive timeout or have a phone call to
the office made about unsafe behaviour. This gives students 2 weeks leeway.
But don’t worry, students who don’t make it won’t miss out. They will play board games together with an
executive staff member.
Next term Arrrbee is already planning a special barbeque at Kadina Park! All Arrrbee Fun Days will be fully financed
by the school, making sure that everyone who receives an invitation can come for free.
Arrbee is Ready for an Amazing 2020!
