TRANSCRIPT

  • WBYA had 2,462 children participate in our programs in 2013. We raised a record amount at Winterfest 2013, which allowed WBYA to provide more high school scholarships then ever before! We started a new summer program called Have-A-Go where 35 children got tried at least one sport they have never played before. WBYA launched a new website and registration system providing advanced capabilities for parents & office staff, along with greater web navigation. WBYA was voted Best of West Chester - Sports Club for 2013.

2013 was a big win for WBYA!

The fields at Embreeville were secured for our use until Dec 31, 2014. WBYA were able to offer prorated registration fees & scholarship money for families in need over the past year - allowing all children to enroll in WBYA programming.

Boy Scout Troop 52 built WBYA picnic tables and have started work on dugouts for the field at Township Complex. Our U-13 Boys Lacrosse team was runner up in CCLA Championship game and our U-9 team was the champion of the U-9A division at the Liberty Lacrosse Shootout in June. Additionally, Fall 5/6 team was runner-up in the USTC fall league. From West Bradford Little League....we matched our largest number of teams participating in district play with 10 ( 2-soft-ball and 8-baseball). WBLL had two District 28 Champions in baseball 13-U (Regester) and 14-U (Junior). Junior team was runner up at Sectionals in Gettysburg falling just shy of the State tournament. We had two runner-up District teams in baseball 10-U and 16-U (Senior). Runner up was impressive in both situations given the 10-U had to win 5 games in a loser bracket...and the 16-U team lost to KAU that eventually competed in the finals of the Senior Division Little League World Series. Way to go baseball & softball players!

On the soccer field, WBYA had the largest league in many years with 500 players. The fall season started with a hugely sucessful cookout & WBYA teams were victorious in a night of championship games at USTC to wrap up a steller 2013.

    BADGESto help keep our

    young athletes safe.

You may have noticed WBYA coaches and other volunteers wearing badges during practices, games and other WBYA events - these badges signify that the vol-unteer has passed a background check as required by WBYA by-laws as well as Little League rules.

All coaches, assistant coaches, and others in continued contact with youth par-ticipants are required to pass the check and to wear the badge at all practices, games, and other functions where our children are present.

WBYA board members will be wear-ing badges with bright red borders to help parents and coaches identify board members. All board members are in-volved in WBYA programs in many positions; if you have any questions or concerns, board members are always available to help. If you plan on coach-ing or spending time in contact with our youth, please visit the WBYA website and follow the link to the volunteer back-ground check, then watch your e-mails for badge picture taking schedules.

Presidents MessageAnother season of indoor soccer is complete, basketball is in progress and we continue to prepare for our spring season. Registration is now open for spring sports and we will be holding a live registration on Saturday, January 25th at Dicks Sporting Goods in Downingtown from 10 AM-2 PM. Please stop in to talk to board members and com-missioners who can help you navigate the new website to register your child. Winterfest tickets, Brick order forms, and Spirit Gear will be available. We would like to thank departing board members, Tom Wickersham and Chris Rieben, for their service on the WBYA Board. We also send a special thank you to Amelia Kazmarski and Roger Greer for volun-teering to serve as basketball co-commissioners this season. We are currently in need of commissioners for golf 14 and basketball 14 - please contact the office if you are interested.

As a reminder, our sports will continue to be played on the Em-breeville fields throughout 2014. We are working toward a long-term partnership with the new owners, but much of that will depend on how their development plans continue. Please be advised that you must now enter from the bottom part of the complex (Route 162); you can no longer drive through the old hospital grounds. Please leave a few minutes earlier to get your child to their game or practice on time.

We hope to see all of you at our annual WinterFest fundraiser on February 22, 2014 at Coatesville Country Club from 6-11 PM. We expect to sell out - so please purchase your tickets soon. Check out the WBYA web site for details.

On behalf of the WBYA Board, I would like to thank all of the volun-teers that make this organization a success!

Looking forward to Spring and being out on the fields again. - Tom Auman

    Announcing NEW Girls Lacrosse Program!

In order to serve the needs of the girls lacrosse programs in Downingtown West and Coatesville, we are bringing back the West Bradford girls lacrosse program. As a joint effort between Down-ingtown West girls lacrosse head coach Courtney McGinty and Coatesville girls lacrosse head coach Chelsea Sandone, we are presenting a new skills program which will include a broader age range and reach deeper into each school district for par-ticipants.

For the first couple of years the program will be a skills-based training session, with the plan to grow into competitive league play. The program will start at the end of March (weather depending) and end before Memorial Day. There will be two sessions per week; one week-night and one weekend.

The program is for girls in the Coatesville or Downingtown West area, in K - 6th grade. The girls will be split into two groups (K - 3, 4 - 6). The younger group will focus on fundamental skills, and the older group will incorporate game play instruction with fundamentals.

The cost for the program will be $75, and include a reversible pinnie for each participant. Registration will begin on Feburary 15th.
