A NOTE FROM FATHER ANDREW Dear Parish Family:

I hope you are enjoying this beautiful fall weather. October is a great month.

I want to thank all those in the parish who supported our youth ministry HERO who last week

stood holding a cross with youth from St. Isaac’s, St. Joan’s, St. John Neumann and St. Mary of

the Lakes parishes for 24 hours. Our youth are truly inspiring. Again thank you for your support

of them and youth ministry here in the parish.

Remember Adoration is every Wednesday after the 9:00am mass. This is a wonderful opportunity to take a few minutes out

of your day to spend with the Lord in Prayer.

One of the opportunities that the parish is offering our members to grow in faith is for you to think about joining a small

group. Last week in my pastor’s notes I shared with you all the wonderful ways that Small Groups can impact you personally

and also the parish. It’s never to late to join.

“My friend, how is it that you came in here without a wedding garment?” Today’s Gospel parable is unset-

tling in several ways. The various images of rejection, mistreatment, and violence paint an unpleas-

ant picture. Guests refuse to come to a feast, servants are killed, troops are dispatched. The King

continues to try to fill his dinner hall, and then when someone finally does show up, the King

throws him out for wearing the wrong clothes. What is going on here?

The message would have been a poignant one for his Jewish listeners. As the chosen people, they

were the first to receive the “invitation” to share in the kingdom of God. But the chief priests and

elders were uninterested in accepting Jesus and his authority; thus they didn’t show up for the feast.

But what about those who did come? Something is expected of them as well. Donning a “wedding garment” is like being

properly prepared to enter God’s kingdom. Just showing up isn’t enough.

Here it’s important to pay attention to the details. The King first calls his poorly dressed guest “friend.” The approach be-

gins with mercy and kindness. But the man gives no defense for himself, and displays no desire to change. It’s as if he doesn’t

really care to be there at all.

The question this raises for us is whether or not we are “dressed” appropriately. We may hang around the banquet hall—

going to church, professing to be Christian—but are we sincere guests of the King of kings? Do we truly accept Christ’s teach-

ings and live by them, or are we just showing up? The splendors of the invitation Christ gives us should not be taken for grant-

ed. We are called to share in a royal feast. May we all be grateful guests.

Enjoy the rest of the week!

See you on the weekend!

God really does provide for those who are grateful and generous. This is very difficult

for people that don’t live a stewardship lifestyle to believe. People are skeptical and say

it’s just coincidence. If you are skeptical, try living a stewardship lifestyle for just one

month – be generous with your gifts of time, talent and treasure and see how God pro-

vides for your needs.

MESSAGE SERIES ~ W AVELENGTH In his letter to the Philippians Paul says he has learned the secret to dealing with any situation. He

has learned how to be in humble circumstances. He has learned what it means to being well fed &

what it means to be in need. In this message we will look at how reflecting and thinking on our ex-

perience in light of Christ & what he is teaching us helps us to gain God’s perspective on our lives.

Some questions to reflect upon this week:

1. Think through your day yesterday. What is something you can thank God for? What is a petition you need to make to

God? What is something you need to pray for?

2. Who is someone you need to lift up in prayer that you encountered over the last 24 hours?

3. When would be the best time and place for you to review your day and ask for God’s perspective on it?

“FAMILY FAITH FORMATION UPDATE”

Fall is a mad, crazy busy time here in the Faith Formation Office of Holy Eucharist.

We have begun our monthly LIFT Family Faith Formation Program. On our LIFT weekends,

our families with children in elementary and middle school attend mass and then gather in Hoffman

Hall for a meal and a session based on the gospel message that we hear in mass.

Please feel free to come down and experience a LIFT adult session for yourself. Our parishioners

are always welcome to join us.

Our Sacramental Preparation Program is in full swing as well. Please keep our Level 9 Confirmation Candidates in your

prayers as they prepare to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation on Friday, November 3rd. On Tuesday, we had an

orientation session for our Level 2 parents of the children in the First Reconciliation/First Eucharist program. They re-

membered their child’s baptism, reflected on their experiences of the Sacrament of Reconciliation and learned about the

program. This weekend, their children receive a blessing from Father Andrew as they begin the preparation for the Sac-

rament of Reconciliation. Finally, we had an orientation session for our Level 7 candidates and parents about our Year

1 Sacrament Preparation program including the program by Ascension Press called Altaration. Check out the trailer

here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwqpan7umwQ We also have a mini retreat for our Level 7 candidates

with their sponsors called a Day of Reflection in February.

We are deeply grateful to our faith community for the support that you give our Faith Formation families.

The 2017 Stand Up For Your Faith Hurri-

cane Relief Youth Ministry faith marathon

was a huge success! Over 40 volunteers &

youth participants took part in completing

the full 24 hours. Our youth ministry along

with participants from St. Mary of the Lakes

& St. Isaac Jogues were able to hold aloft

the 180 lb. wooden cross through sunshine & rain, darkness &

light while enjoying praise filled activities & fun.

The evening was filled with group activities, reconciliation & cul-

minated with an outdoor, star-lit midnight adoration, with Father

Michael Kennedy. Our overnight hours were kept active with

games, songs & comradery. New friends were made as our teen

participants relied on each other to help serve their hours holding

up the cross. The full 24 hours were filled with times of reflection,

gospel reading and prayer for our suffering brothers & sisters in

Houston. Everyone was energized as our 24th hour approached

and our procession with the cross into 6 PM mass was highlight-

ed by Father Andrew’s blessing of the cross & all attendees at the

conclusion of this special mass.

Holy Eucharist Youth Ministry (H.E.R.O.) would like to thank

the participating parishes for joining us in our efforts. Special

thanks to brother Steve Raffo, brother Joe Browne & all of the

Knights of Columbus #8733 for providing the massive cross used

for this event. We appreciate & thank Father Michael Kennedy

for staying up late & providing us with the incredibly moving ad-

oration & benediction. The Holy Eucharist staff thank you for

making the entire parish property available for this event. Thank

you Father Andrew & his staff for promoting and supporting the

wonderful members of H.E.R.O. in their endeavor to stand up for

their faith. God Bless everyone who supported & assisted us in

this event along with our entire parish family. Your prayers &

donations are much appreciated.
