Limit Switch Reliability

There have been no reported failures of this switch in the field for the past 10 years (several thousands sold). These are featured on several types of valves that we sell.

This valve is designed for 50,000 cycles. The individual switch reliability is far better than this. And there are two of them.

There are dozens of these in service right now at ALS with no reports of limit switch failures with thousands of cycles of operation.

Gate Failure scenarios

Overlap in ‘fallen’ condition

Thermal Loading Information: At 1 Watt, the paddle should not exceed 70 C.

We expect design to be suitable for steady state gate temperatures up to 250C.

VAT has not tested maximum absorbed power capabilities. Steady state FEA radiation models might be available on request.

Pin Joint Failure: If fixation pin comes out halfway, it will interfere

with the bushing and the Open limit switches will not be asserted

VAT has never experienced this failure mode and considers it extremely unlikely.

Paddle Pin or Web Failure If the paddle were to become disconnected it

would fall to the bottom of the body and it is large enough to ensure the clear aperture is covered with out gaps.
