I confronted my shadow, “Jenny, you say ‘Mommy’ every two minutes. From the Pastor:

Written on Monday, May 8, 2017...

We are looking forward to celebrating Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 14th at 11:00 AM here at Stanford Baptist Church and we would like to be sure to invite you and your family to join us! Once again, it is time to “give honor where honor is due.”

We realize there is a wide range of emotions on Mother’s Day, and while we do our best to be sensitive to this. We also believe it is of great importance that we take time to celebrate Mothers and the wonderful gift they are to families.

The following little story reminds me of the times I have been in a store somewhere, and a child is trying to get the attention of the Mother with increasing chants of “Mom”:

Three-year-old Jennifer is a darling little chatterbox. She follows me around the house telling stories or just making conversation. One afternoon, I was particularly tired and my tolerance for non-stop chatter was low. I confronted my shadow, “Jenny, you say ‘Mommy’ every two minutes. Could you please stop saying ‘Mommy’ all the time?” She wandered off only to return two minutes later. “Mommy” she began; then she paused. “I mean Nancy, could I have a drink please?” —Colin Miller, They Eat Dirt Don’t They, Christian Parenting Books, 1993, p. 39

Mothers certainly live in a challenging day and age as they often are juggling work, ball games, dance recitals, church, duties at home, and oh yes… some personal time once in a while! (Some of you are probably asking, “what’s that”?).

You are not only highly valued by the Lord, but let me assure you, we here at Stanford Baptist Church place tremendous value on motherhood, and wanted to be sure to extend this invitation to you to come for a great time in church which is sure to be an encouragement to you, and all Mothers in attendance.

Proverbs 31 is a tremendous portion of scripture, and while at times it may seem to be very lofty in expectations, it is still wonderful to have goals that are presented in this chapter as a guide for life. I particularly enjoy this verse:

<>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <><

28 Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her: –Proverbs 31:28

<>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <><

Again, we would like to invite you to our service on Mother’s Day as we celebrate God’s wonderful gift of Motherhood here at Stanford Baptist Church!

Love You All in Christ, Bro. Nick

Thanks to Mark Upchurch for sharing his composing and singing talent with us! Thanks to George Munday for a beautiful offertory. The Adult Choir did a wonderful job on a hard anthem, “Spirit of the Living God”. This Sunday we celebrate a special day- Mother’s Day. Lily States and Becky Stogsdill will be playing “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands” for our offertory. The Adult Choir will have the day off and our special music will be presented by the Grace Girls. They will be singing “Victory in Jesus”. Soloists will be Selah Manzie, Emma Foster, and Sabrina Manzie.

Have a great week! Stuart
