ANKENY PATIO IS OPENSpring is finally upon us and our Ankeny location would like to invite you to come enjoy their patio for lunch or dinner. Its nice to be outside and still enjoy the comforts of dining out. Enjoy great service while listening to the outdoors and feeling the air. ALASKAN KINGThe King Salmon is the more mild salmon of the different species. It also holds a lot more fat and is a great source of Omega 3’s. A big part of this is that the Kings are not usually caught in nets going up stream but mostly caught still out in the ocean by hook and line. Since they are still in the ocean they are not yet using their own stored nutrients as they would if going up river. We were lucky enough to get some troll king salmon out of Alaska in March. Usually this month in April we really plan on getting fresh king salmon rolling through. So I wanted to give everyone a heads up that Alaskan fisheries dont intend on opening waters to hook and line King salmon fishing again until June. We may see some King coming in from Washington, Oregon or Canada in the mean time, but Alaskan Kings not till June.

SMELT NUMBERS MAY BE TOO LOWThe Last couple of years during smelt run time we have had an issue with the ice still covering the streams allowing the smelt to run under the ice and avoid being caught. This year I believe we are in the clear on the ice but the fisheries are claiming the numbers could also be lower than most previous years as well. The smelt are not actually a native species to the great lakes, or lakes at all really. So numbers falling is not a huge surprise, just an upset for the fans of these sweet lake fish. We are still planning for a Wednesday night special dedicated to the smelt run. We will be optimistic. But we will also keep Walleye as a standby just in case.
