to this year’s Corned Beef Dinner.
We loved her for her spunky personality and drive but most of all for her warm friendship. I am asking our membership to push ourselves as hard as she would have and make this year’s Corned Beef Dinner the best one yet, in memory of both Charlie and Linda. I know they will be there in spirit helping us. Let us not let them down.
Yours in Unico, Joanne D’Angelo , President
My Dear Fellow Unicans,
It is with a heavy heart that I must acknowledge the loss of our Chapter Secretary and one of my best friends.
We will always remember her great smile, her great dedication to community service, and her great hospitality. She was my hand picked successor to the presidency and she would have been the best President this club has every seen! I have no doubt!
I convinced her to follow in her dad’s footsteps and she put her whole heart and soul into her Unico Secretary job. She always volunteered to be on many committees and was our best seller of tickets for her beloved dad, Charlie Lanza’s Italian Corned Beef Fundraiser.
She exemplified our motto “Service Above Self”. As sick as she was, she pushed herself to attend our Italian Heritage Night and she told us she had every intention of going

WATERBURY CHAPTER OF UNICO NATIONAL MONTHLY NEWSLETTER
Note From President
Ms. Linda Lanza, age 59, passed away peacefully, after a brave battle with cancer on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Bridgeport Hospital.
Linda was born on July 1, 1954, in Waterbury, daughter of Consuelo “Connie” (Grau) Lanza and the
late Charles Lanza. Linda was a 1972 graduate of Sacred Heart High School and held an Associate’s
Degree from Mattatuck College. She worked as an office manager for Century 21 Property Center for
over eighteen years and most recently for the City of Waterbury, Department of Education as a food
server for over three years. She also always worked for the Lega Sigiliana Social Club where she was a
familiar face serving dinners on all dinner nights. A very active community member, Linda followed in
her father’s civic footsteps and was a member of the Lega Sigiliana Club, CrimeStoppers of Waterbury
and was the current Secretary for UNICO club of Waterbury. Whether it was her family or community organizations, Linda was
happiest when she had family and friends together. She was a loving, amazing mom who was dedicated to her mother, daughters
and grandson. Always a smile on her face, Linda loved her kids at State Street School and her many friends she made throughout
the years. She welcomed all who came to her home and always had a place at the table for dinner for family and friends. She was
a remarkable woman, an inspiration to all, and will be dearly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to
her loving mother, Connie, Linda is survived by her daughters, Melissa Conway and her companion Michael Janeiro, Alexis Draskinis
and her husband Ryan, and Valerie Tirado and her companion Thomas Hotham; all of Waterbury; her brother Joseph Lanza of
Bantam; and her precious grandson Anthony who meant the world to her. She also leaves her aunt Josephine Bocchicchio of
Waterbury, many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and many friends as well as her beloved beagle Tipper.
