And that were not the only activities of the Platform and its members. This newsletter highlights a number of developments of January: - Horizon Europe, a co-programmed partnership zero-emission waterborne transport; - The Waterborne TP General Assembly; - The preparations of the TRA 2020; - New members joining the Waterborne TP. Co-programmed partnership zero-emission waterborne transport - state-of-play The Waterborne TP is currently preparing a series of documents in preparation of the final selection. As a first step, the formal proposal for the Partnership is drafted by the Secretariat and an editorial team consisting of members of the waterborne community. The Proposal is composed of the context, objectives and expected impacts, as well as the expected implementation. The final version of this document will be submitted to DG RTD of the European Commission by 29 February 2020. In parallel the development of the first draft of the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda of the Partnership kicked-off. This document is expected to be finalised end of June, after going through a series of consultations and feedback loops. It is expected that the Partnership itself will start on 1 January 2021. In addition, the identification of topics for 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 in the framework of Horizon Europe will soon be finalised, It concerns both topics for related to zero-emission waterborne transport, as well as topics which will be covered by collaborative research. A major outstanding issue is the budget for Horizon Europe, and thereby the budget for waterborne related research and innovation. Waterborne TP General Assembly, 23 January2020, Brussels

On 23 January 2020, the Waterborne TP organised its General Assembly. The morning sessionwas dedicated to an overview of the developments regarding Horizon Europe in general, as wellas the preparations of the Co-Programmed Partnership Zero-Emission Waterborne Transport. Inthe afternoon, the members discussed proposals for organisational changes, the creation of apublic affairs working group and its composition, the proposal for the Co-ProgrammedPartnership, the elections of the Board, the membership fee for 2020 as well as the possiblestructures for the governance of the Partnership. Finally, the Waterborne TP formally adopted the

application for membership of 15 organisations. It is currently foreseen, that an extrodinaryGeneral Assembly will be organised back-to-back with the signing ceremony of the Partnership.

Transport Research Arena 2020 Helsinki From 27 to 30 April 2020, the Transport Research Arena (TRA), will be organised in Helsinki,Finland. The location offers a unique opportunity to shape a waterborne character of the TRA.The Early Bird registration closes on 13 February 2020, so be sure to snag your tickets beforethe prices go up. Members of the Waterborne TP will receive a more detailed overview of the relevant elements ofthe conference programme later this week, but a snapshot of the waterborne character is alreadyavailable:

SchiffbautechnischeVersuchsanstalt in Wien, Airseas, Cantiere Navale Vittoria and Magellan In addition, EuropeanMaritime Pilots' Association and Intercargo joined as observer. INTERCARGO provides theforum where dry bulk shipowners, managers and operators are informed about, discuss andshare concerns on key topics and regulatory challenges, especially in relation to safety, theenvironment and operational excellence. The Association takes forward its Members' positionsto the IMO, as well as to other shipping and international industry fora, having free and faircompetition as a principle.
