The Oxfordshire Way begins on High Street in the centre of Bourton-on-the-Water at an Oxfordshire Way signpost with the model railway exhibition on the left. Follow the tarmac path to a road. TL and then TR down Roman Way for a short distance. At Harm Farm, TR along Moor Lane. Follow the tarmac lane straight ahead until you reach farm buildings.

TR along a hedged lane, looking out for a gate on your left. TL here and enter the water meadows. Keep the hedge on your left and cross two fields to two small concrete water tanks near the foot-bridge over the River Eye.

TL after bridge and follow the fence straight on through two more fields to a field-gate on to a village road opposite a Wyck Rissington post box. Here TR through the village.

Follow road through the village to a small stone church. Go through the gate into the churchyard, keeping immediately left of the church and then bending round right to a kissing gate out of the churchyard. Cross the cart track, go through a gate and go straight on across the field to a footbridge.

TR along the road and then TL down the bridleway opposite Court Hayes Riding School on the right. The path enters a small belt of trees and emerges on to the A424.

BR after the footbridge and cross the next two fields. In the third field, turn right half way up to a gap in the hedge over a ditch. Go through the gap and TL up hill following the left hand hedge to a stile. Continue along left hand hedge in the next field to a road.

TL for a few yards until you are opposite the Westcote turn. Cross over and go down this turning until the road turns sharply right. You carry straight on, following the drive right down to the entrance to Gawcombe House.

Keep on between the buildings, bearing right and then left on to a clearly defined cart-track with ornamental lakes below to your right.

Continue downhill along a wide cart-track through two fields. In the third field, TL at the far field edge to follow a stream on the right to a bridle-bridge over Westcote Brook.

TR after the bridge and follow an enclosed track until it turns sharply to the left.

Do not turn left with the main track but go straight on through a gateway in the hedge and follow the brook on your right. After 50m and at kink in brook, BL across the field cutting off the right hand field corner to footbridge.

In the next field go straight ahead along field path to another footbridge. Follow next field edge uphill to a gate and continue along a path to a burial ground that leads to a road in Bledington. Continue straight on to road junction and TR.

Continue along road for quarter of a mile. When the road bends left to Kingham, continue straight ahead in the direction of Foscot. TL about 20m beyond the bridge and go through two wooden gates.

TR along field edge. Follow the right hand hedge for nearly half a mile. At a wide gap in the hedge at the end of this great field, TL and follow the hedge to the brook at the bottom of the field. TR and follow the bank of the brook to a little stone bridge.

TR at the bridge and head up towards the woodland. Once inside TL and follow a narrow path through the wood. Continue through the wood on a clear but narrow track to exit with views of Bruern Abbey and come out onto a road.

Go straight across the road and through a gate into the parkland of Bruern Abbey passing fence enclosure on your right and on through a field to a gate into a broad ride through Bruern Woods.

Go straight on through a tunnel through the very edge of the wood and continue straight on keeping the hedge line on your right through two fields to a road.

Cross the road and go straight on along the enclosed path to a gate and across the field to a gap in the hedge, then on across two more fields.

At the hedge corner TL on to a good cart-track and follow the hedge downhill to Meadow Lane. TR into the lane and continue straight on past modern housing to the A361 in Shipton-under-Wychwood.

Follow this bridleway out of a hedged track to follow the left hand field edge to the railway level crossing into Ascott-under-Wychwood.

Cross over the level crossing with care and TL along the bridleway. Cross the bridge over the Evenlode and carry on along the lane.

At the junction, TL and walk through the village past the church on your right.

Cross over the level crossing with care and TL along the bridleway. Cross the bridge over the Evenlode and carry on along the lane.

Follow the field edge path with the river to your right. At the Evenlode bridge BL crossing broad fields with the hedge line on your right.

At the junction, TL and walk through the village past the church on your right. By the railway crossing TL in the direction of Chipping Norton and immediately after crossing the Evenlode TR onto a bridleway.

After the second field, BL to cross a ditch. Go through a gate and follow around the river to your right to come back up to a gap in the hedge.

Carry straight on across next two fields and bear slightly left across the next field to a gate onto a track. Continue on track to Pudicote Lane.

Cross Pudicote Lane and go straight on across five fields to Catsham Lane.

Cross this lane also and carry straight on along the right hand field edge and left field edge uphill and down the other side to a ditch and hedge.

The bridleway goes straight on up to Spelsbury but the Oxfordshire Way turns right here, following the left field edge all the way to a track called Grove Lane. At the field corner TR along Grove Lane until you see a metal kissing gate on your left.

At the field corner TR along Grove Lane until you see a metal kissing gate on your left. TL and bear slightly right across the field to a footbridge. Carry on across field to a copse.

Skirt the copse on your left until you come to a metal gate. Follow the left edge of the next fields to cross a ford. Continue straight on across the next two fields to a footbridge and then straight on to a lane.

Now you are on the B4026. TR up Pound Hill to the centre of Charlbury.

Follow the road straight on through the village.

At the five way road junction, take the Woodstock Road past houses on either side until after about 300m, the main road curves uphill and you take Stonesfield Lane straight ahead.

When the lane ends BR onto bridleway.

After half a mile you come out from the hedged lane and cross a bridleway.

Continue in the same direction on a cart-track with open country on either side. The path goes down into a small valley. At the bottom of the valley, where you can see cottages to your left, turn off the main track left along the field edge path with the hedge on your right.

Go through a gate to the right of the cottages and cross a track to continue along a farm road. After crossing another bridleway, go straight on downhill to the road in Stonesfield village.

Cross the road and take the signed path slightly to the left opposite, which leads uphill to come out on a road by the chapel.

Do not cross the ford bridge but TL through a metal kissing gate. Follow the path through a grassy field to another kissing gate and then continue along field edge with the hedge on your right to a gap in a stone wall. Carry straight on along the next field edge leading to the Stonesfield/Combe road.

Carry straight on uphill along the village road until the road bends sharply to the left. TR here and follow the road that becomes a bridleway track leading straight on and dropping steeply down to the ford.

Cross the road and carry straight along field edge path until you reach another road named Akeman Street after the Roman road that you are following.

Cross this road also and continue straight on to Stonesfield Steps, a wooden ladder-stile set in Blenheim Park Wall.

From Stonesfield Steps, the path goes straight on through a belt of trees, crossing a woodland ride, to a gate into a large field. Go through the gate and carry straight on with the fence on your left to another wooden gate. Go through the gate and carry straight on along a gravel track.

Pass North Lodge on your left and carry straight on through another couple of gates and fields until you reach a farm cottage on your right. Here continue straight on through a wooden gate and copse of young trees and across the next field to a gate.

Go through the gate and TR and then immediately TL through the trees to the huge Wootton Door set in Blenheim Park wall.

Go through the Wootton Door and cross the A44 with care to take the road almost opposite signposted Wootton. When this road forks almost immediately, take the right road fork sign posted Bletchingdon. Carry straight on down this lane to Stratford Bridge over the Glyme, then straight on uphill to Sansom’s Farm and cottages.

Here cross the B4027 and go straight on to take the path opposite. Continue straight on along field edge path, cross over the ancient green lane Dornford Lane and carry straight on through gate and across next two fields. Go through a gate into a copse and carry straight on, crossing an-other green lane and continuing along path to the A4260 just north of Sturdy’s Castle Inn.

Cross the A4260 with care and take the Tackley road opposite. Continue until you see a bridleway sign off to your right. Take this field edge path all the way to Whitehill road.

Cross the road and continue straight on along field edges, crossing five stiles to reach a plank bridge over a stream.

After the bridge BR onto a field and then turn fully right along a well used track to a gap by a gate on to a lane to the left of Field Cottage.

TL along the lane, passing the sewage works on your right. The track curves round to the right to a stone bridge. Cross the bridge and continue to another bridge over a branch of the River Cherwell.

Carry on across the island to cross a third bridge. The path bears left after this bridge along a well used path to Pigeon Lock. Cross the lock, TL and continue up a long lane to Kirtlington village.

After passing Pound Close cul-de-sac on your right, BR towards post office and right again along main road past Kirtlington school. Just past the Dashwood Hotel, BL towards the village hall.

Go through a gate and over a footbridge and continue bearing slightly right across the next field to gate. Follow to a gate into a copse and then continue straight on across the field to follow copse fence line on your right.

When the road bends right to the village hall car park, take path left through a metal kissing gate. Follow the path straight on through the park over a track to a belt of trees.

Follow the left hand grass verge to the minor road junction. TR and right again to a metalled farm access track through Oddington Grange.

Follow the left edge of the field straight ahead which runs beside the Manor grounds, until you see a footbridge on your left. Cross the footbridge and walk across the field diagonally to a hedged corner by a tennis court. Maintain your direction to a gate heading through a small woodland.

Exit the woodland through a gate and carry straight on along the left field edge to a stile in the railings of the pub beer garden. Proceed to the car park entrance and TL to the mini roundabout. TR at the roundabout and follow the metalled footpath over the road-bridge crossing the A34.

When the track starts to run through the third large field, look out for a footpath on the right which leads you straight through two fields to a footbridge. Cut across the next meadow to a kink in the right side of the field. Continue straight on towards the right field corner where there is a footbridge. Follow the left hedgeline to a gap and footbridge.

At the metalled farm access track TR for a short distance, then left on to a track. TL off the track through a gateway. Follow the left hedgeline straight on. When you come to a hedge on the left at a right angle to your path, go through the gap and follow the right-hand hedge line straight on to a footbridge. Cross the bridge and use the path which runs through the small copse to a stile.

Once over the stile, take extreme care of oncoming trains and TR for about 30m before crossing the Bicester/Oxford railway line to another ramp and stile. Head towards the right side of the field by cutting the corner to a footbridge and stile.

Go straight across the field to footbridge and continue straight on through the next field to another footbridge. TL through a gate and head diagonally left to the field corner. Then BR along the path to the right of the fence and through a gate into North Street, Islip.

TR through the wooden gate onto the enclosed footpath around the field edge and continue to the edge of Noke Wood.

When you reach the wood BL to continue along the field boundary for 500 metres until you see a signposted path going right into the wood. Follow this path into South Oxfordshire. Go through a gate to a track which becomes a lane. Walk up Church street and TL into the main street of the village to the Abingdon Arms.

Follow left hedge across next field to gate. Then BR across final field to metal kissing gate onto road.

Walk past the Abingdon Arms pub on your left. When the road bends sharply to the left opposite a thatched cottage onto Otmoor Lane, take steep shady track straight ahead.

After about 200 yards, leave the track left into a field, cutting of the right corner of the field to a stile. Continue straight ahead through the next field to another stile and carry straight on across a third field to drop down steeply to a copse.

At the bottom of the slope a stile leads on to a little woodland path running along the left bank of a stream. Cross plank bridge and emerge on to a lane. Cross the lane, go through gate and bear slightly right across the next field to a gate.

Bear slightly right again across next field to a gate and then BR again across the next large field, aiming for where the telegraph wires cross the next hedge. Continue across next small field to a small plank bridge to the right of the main field gateway.

The path bears left then right past farm buildings and comes out on metal driveway. TL along driveway and follow lane all the way to a junction of roads called Menmarsh Guide Post.

Cross straight over the road and through a gate opposite on to a bridleway which skirts Studley Wood on the left and then cuts off the right corner of the field to a bridle-bridge and gate. Go straight across the next field to reach a green lane.

Carry straight on along the green lane until you reach the woodland corner, then TR along the edge of wood. At the field corner by a gateway, TL and follow the right hedge line of the next two fields.

At the field corner the path turns left with the hedge line on your right. Follow the path over the stream bridge and then as it bears left and crosses back over the stream to continue alongside it, arriving at Danesbrook Farm on your right.

Cross the road and take the bridleway straight ahead bearing right through a gateway. Follow the wide grassy bridleway track between a hedge and a fence.

At the end, go through a gate and BR along a long field with Moorbirge Brook on your right and Bernwood Forest on your left. Follow the bridleway as it curves around keeping to the forest edge on your left to eventually arrive at a gate at Drunkard’s Corner.

Where you see the footpath sign going off to the left and when you are adjacent to the telegraph pole nearest to your path, TR across field, BR at the end to join the track leading to the cottage.

Do not go through the gate onto lane but TR with the hedge on your left. Do not cross the footbridge straight ahead but instead TL, crossing two foot-bridges and turning left following the hedge on your left.

Cross a stile and then cross a road and continue over track until you have just passed Park Farm on your left.

Follow the track passing the cottage on your right and join the tarmac lane. Carry on along the lane over the A40 bridge until you reach a road junction.

Cross over and follow the road almost opposite into Waterperry.

TR off the Waterperry Road as the road bends left, by the millennium wooden noticeboard. Go through a gate and follow the bridleway straight ahead across a field to a gate in the far left hand corner. Take the track straight ahead, go through another gate, and follow along the left hand hedge in the next field.

In the next field, after passing a thatched cottage on your left, look for a gate on your left heading on to a well-walked path. TL through the gate and then TR along the path which leads to a brick arch known as Bow Bridge.

Cross the bridge, pass the delightful Mill House and BL to cross a paddock and a track and take a metal kissing gate straight ahead to join the village road in Waterstock.

TL along the road past the church and you will soon come to an Oxfordshire Way signpost and stile on your right.

TR here and BL across the next two fields to a golf course. Go over a stile and continue straight on following the golf fence on your left until you come to a stile in the fence and a waymark sign pointing right.

TR here and continue in this direction across the course, joining and leaving a track until a waymark post guides you left to exit the golf course on to a road.

TL along the road for 100 metres, then take a path on the right through a gate and field to cross the disused railway track and then go diagonally across two fields to a small footbridge.

The route then follows the right hedge to an idyllic thatched cottage. TL beyond the cottage garden then TR through a gap in the hedge and crosses a field to reach the sunken Sandy Lane.

Cross the lane and take a stile opposite, slightly to your left, and cross the field to drop down to the village road between some modern houses.

At the track junction TR along the track through the farm yard and BL along the track to exit through metal gates by a barn on your right. Go along a short gravel track, through a wooden gate and BL along the left field edge to pass through a copse. Cross a field to a metal gate onto a driveway.

On reaching Tiddington, cross over the road and take School Lane opposite, which starts as an access road to some houses and becomes a gravel path to a stile through two fields and over two small footbridges. The path then climbs along the right hedge of another field to arrive at Albury.

A kissing gate leads on to a road. TR here then BL over a stile to an enclosed grass path. The path becomes a broad track with good views to the left. Continue on past the farm on your right.

The Oxfordshire Way turns right on this driveway and after a few metres at a junction turns sharply left on to another driveway. By Rycote chapel TR on to the chapel path, passing to the right of the chapel and entering a wood.

Cross the A329 and carry straight on across the Oxfordshire Golf Course, crossing the road and bearing right. Keep to the right of the mounds and go uphill to meet the road to the right of the Club House.

Follow an obvious waymarked path through the wood, BR at one point where you gain a glimpse of Rycote House to your left, and you will reach a wooden gate into fields.

Carry straight on across an enclosed path to Old Paddock Wood. Follow through the wood, going straight on through the wooden gate when you see a path going left. BL at the path fork along the smaller grass path. Carry straight on across the gravel track and come out on to the A329 road.

At the bottom end of the second field, go through a gap in the hedge, then TL over a stream and follow the stream on your right to a footbridge. The path passes between the stream and sewage treatment works, then follows along the right hand hedge through two fields to reach a gate on to the concrete farm road.

When the road bends left to the club house, take the path straight ahead over a mound and through a gap in the hedge. BL to follow the track past the Club House, keeping it on your left.

TR at the track junction and then TL to follow the right hand field hedge downhill, through an enclosed section and on through another field. Then follow the left field hedge downhill for two more fields.

TR here and BR across the big village green to the A40 road.

Cross over and continue straight on beside the left-hand stream through two fields until you reach a stile by a copse and ornamental lake to your left. Continue straight on across a paddock to a stile into a wood.

Walk past the village green on your left and TR up Back Street by the war memorial. Follow the road as it bends around to the left and then fork right up Parkers Hill. Follow the old cobbled raised pavement on your left to a wooden gate.

Carry on straight ahead to cross a stile, paddock and another stile. Go straight across the field and pass directly under the M40 motorway.

Bear slightly left across the next field to Harlesford Lane. Cross the lane and the stone stile and BL across a field to a stile. Maintain this direction across two further fields to reach a stile and footbridge in the far corner of the second field.

On emerging on to the road, BR across it to a gate and stile, then cross a field diagonally right to a stile and footbridge under a willow tree. At the far end of the bridge TL and cross the near left corner of the field to a footbridge.

Go straight on through this wood. At the far side of the wood, enter a narrow paddock to a gate on to the road into Adwell.

TR to the road junction and then TR again along the tree-lined road for a third of a mile. On reaching a sharp right-hand bend TL on to a private road and follow it to Wheatfield Park on your right, past the tiny parish church. Taking the left-hand turning at the fork, continue until you come level with Park Farm to your right.

Near Park Farm TL up a track, which leads you over the brow of a hill into an arable field. Now follow a tree hedge line straight on downhill until you reach a crossing hedge, then TR and follow the hedge to the far side of the field. Here cross a stile and footbridge and TL.

Follow the left-hand hedge downhill through three fields to a footbridge over a brook, along the edge of a left-hand copse through fields to a gap in a hedge to the right of a large tree and TL along the left field edge.

Follow field edge around three sides of the field until you reach a stile by the entrance track to Model Farm.

Continue straight on and climb up Pyrton Hill on to the Chiltern escarpment. Just before you come to the top of the hill, look out for a footpath leading off to your right.

TR here through a paddock with the tree line on your right and carry on to a stile leading on to Christmas Common road.

Pass the Fox and Hounds pub on your right and look out for a footpath turning left off the road. TL along this footpath, which soon enters a thick wood, crosses another footpath, bears left and emerges on to a narrow grit road beside a cottage. TR along this road for a short distance

and then TL off it into a wood. Follow the path down through mature beech trees. At the path fork take the right fork. Later on the path joins a wider track coming down from the left.

At the four way path junction, TR and follow the footpath uphill out of the wood. After exiting the wood, the footpath bears right across a field to a pond by Hollandridge Farm.

Follow the left field edge from here and cross a lane to a stile. Continue on the left field edge to another stile into College Wood. TL at the path fork. At the bottom of the hill TL and exit the wood.

Follow the left hand fence line, which takes you on a track to the B480.

TR along the road and then immediately left up a little road to Pishill church. Follow this road until it turns right, where you go straight on along a lane.

BL at the path junction along the bridleway and with the hedge on the left head down the hill and up again into another beech wood.

Enter the wood, cross another path and bear slightly right to climb the slope. Gain the ridge and carry straight on. At the path fork, BL and follow the path to Park Lane road.

Cross the road and proceed squarely up the slope to enter beechwoods. Follow the path through the wood, exit the wood and proceed straight on across the field.

At the hedgeline BL and keeping the hedge on your right proceed to Lodge Farm and cottage and then on to a track between the buildings.

At the end of the track, TR and then immediately left. Follow the path through the wood.

At the path fork, BR. The path goes through a clearing, back into the wood and out on to a track to the bottom of the valley.

When you get to the Rainbow Inn, cross the B480 and TL along the road through trees.

Take the road left to the left of some houses; then very shortly TR along the grassy footpath uphill.

Continue straight ahead through a meadow to a stile through the hedge.

After passing the Rainbow Inn on your right, cross the B480 and TL along the road through trees.

Take the road left to the left of some houses; then very shortly TR along the grassy footpath uphill.

Continue diagonally right across the next field and over a stile in the hedge to the road by a house with a pond in front of it.

Cross the road and take the lane to the left of the house. The track continues past fine oak, lime and beech trees.

After passing a white house and redwood tree and as the road bends left, go straight on through a kissing gate through Henley Park.

Follow the track through open meadows along the ridge with the ground falling away on either side. The track slowly descends to a kissing gate and into a wood.

The path drops quickly through the wood, does a left and right kink and emerges to follow the left edge of a field on to the road.
