waste management and materials recycling
DESCRIPTION
Dantherm Filtration dust extraction equipment for waste management and material recycling applications.TRANSCRIPT
Good air quality that meets the standards of DSEAR (COSHH) is a prerequisite for
waste processing plant operators, employees and indeed for their neighbours.
Dantherm Filtration’s wide ranges of dust filtration and material separation
equipment enable their experienced engineers to remove airborne pollutants
whilst also playing a part in sorting waste materials.
Close working with plant designers and operators will ensure that the
extraction equipment becomes integrated effectively with the whole
system. The company naturally offers best available techniques (BAT)
to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations including ATEX
certification requirements as appropriate.
A dust extraction system from
Dantherm Filtration fulfills the ATEX demands:
• Explosion strengths of filters and protective systems independently tested
• EC-Type Examination certificates for all explosion panels, rotary valves and other
protective systems
• ATEX certified isolation dampers to prevent spread of explosion in ducting
• Fans independently certified by Baseefa for use with explosive dusts and vapours

As an integral part of materials recovery facilities (MRF),
Dantherm provides highly efficient dust extraction at
conveyor transfer points together with separation of
light material from pre-separated co-mingled material
lines. Strategically placed Dantherm air knives may be
used to clean the resulting material streams by
removing “lights”, which are then separated from the
off-take airstream by means of continuously rated
Dantherm NFV coarse separators. The dusty air from
these processes, together with that from conveyor
transfer points and other hoods may be filtered by a
common high efficiency Cyclopac reverse jet cyclonic
bag filter with patented features to maximise dust
loading with the lowest energy requirement. The
combination of air knives and NFV coarse separators
effectively removes lightweight material, for example
from container or paper lines and the large volume
rotary valve integrated into the NFV separator delivers
this waste at atmospheric pressure for further
processing. Dantherm Cyclopac filters are ideally
suited to this purpose as they occupy minimal floor
space and their fully ATEX certified explosion relief
at high level offers increased versatility when locating
the units in restricted spaces.

Dantherm Filtration serves the waste management and
recycling industries unobtrusively and efficiently.
Control systems are designed and manufactured
in-house customised exactly to suit each project.
Available with full colour touch screen functionality,
controls can incorporate variable speed drives to match
demand with optimal economy. Compatibility with
other centralised systems may be specified, together
with full condition monitoring and remote indication
as required.

Cyclopac / Cyclopex are cyclonic reverse jet cleaned tubular bag filters designed for
continuous operation with high dust loadings, suitable for outdoor location. The cyclonic
pre-separation together with the patented inner core design enable very high filtration
efficiency as most of the waste does not reach the filter bags. The lighter dust load on the

NFV and NFVZcoarse material separator
The NFV and NFVZ ranges of coarse separators are designed for continuousseparation of coarse particles from an airstream. Air passes through a screen, but material arrested by the screen drops into a large, well sealed rotary valve thatdischarges the coarse material. The NFVZ version is ATEX certified for use with ex-plosive materials. The NFVZ is fitted with upward facing explosion panels mountedon a slightly inclined roof. These units are typically used as pre- separators beforeconventional bag or cartridge filters.

FS flat bag filter Features:
• Heavy gauge fully welded steel construction
• Compact modular design minimises space
requirement
• Weatherproof for exposed locations
• Filter area up to 2500m2 in single housing
• High efficiency off-line cleaning during
continuous operation
• Lower pressure cleaning minimises emissions
• Wide range of filter media for special applications
• Easy access for maintenance from front mounted
clean gas chamber
• Operating temperature up to 220˚C
• No compressed air required
The FS is a range of modular reverse air cleaned
horizontal flat bag (or "cassette") filters designed
for continuous operation in heavy duty
applications. It has a downflow design, dirty gas
entering via an inlet hood at high level, passing
downwards across the horizontal bags where the
dust is separated from the gas. Most of the dust
then drops into the hopper. The cleaned gas
passes through the bags, on the surface of which
a filter cake is deposited, then into the clean gas
chamber from where it is extracted at low level.
Typical Applications:
• Waste incineration
• Aluminium production
• Ferrous and non-ferrous foundries
• Asphalt production
• Quarries, minerals, aggregates
Options for FS and FD filters:
• Discharge options include screw conveyors,
rotary valves, gravity or motorised flap valves
or bin
• Customised dirty gas inlet hoods
• Air blast coolers for higher temperature
applications
• Pre-separators, skimmers and cyclones
• Access platforms
Offline effect advantages:
• Small difference between gross and net surface
• Powerful low energy cleaning
• Low residual dust content
• Very high efficiency in collecting fine dust
(PM10, PM 2,5)
Cleaning is effected by a cleaning air fan whose flexible
outlet duct is connected to a movable cleaning carriage.
A quick acting valve allows a pulse of cleaning air to be
injected into each row of bags in turn, whilst adjacent
rows are shielded to take them off line. This feature greatly
enhances the cleaning efficiency, allowing the filter to
operate normally whilst cleaning progresses.
Operation of the cleaning mechanism is programmable
according to requirements.

Reverse jet compressed air cleaning system
Reverse jet cleaning is effected by separate diaphragm
valves fixed above each vertical row of filter bags,
supplied by a distribution manifold horizontally
mounted at high level. A pulse of cleaning air is
injected via a vertical jet tube into each row of bags
in turn. Operation of the cleaning mechanism is
programmable according to requirements. The FD is
a reverse jet cleaned alternative to the FS reverse air
filter, particularly useful where the higher quantity of
cleaning air injected by the FS could adversely affect
the process gas conditions.

The FD range is based closely on the efficient FS
reverse air filter, but it is fitted with a compressed
air reverse jet cleaning mechanism. The cleaning
jet tubes are mounted vertically and the top
mounted diaphragm valves are arranged to clean
one column of bags with each pulse. With no
moving parts in the clean air chamber and higher
temperature capability, the FD is particularly
suitable for flue gas cleaning in boiler and
incineration applications.

The flow of hot gases
The hot gases flow into the cooler vertically
downwards along the cooling elements.
The gases are deflected through 180° and
a pre-separation of the coarse dust takes
place. Cold air fans blow ambient air through
the cooling elements. A temperature control
element switches the necessary number of
cold air fans on.

The danger of the dew point
The cooling air has to be pre-warmed if it is
likely that the temperature could fall below
the dew point on the cooling elements
during the cooling of hot process gases.
Unlike KS, preheating of cooling air is
provided with KU. In this case, a partial
flow of heated cooling air and fresh air
are blown in together by the cooling
air fan. A pre-selected mixing temperature
is regulated prior to entry into the cooling
elements by opening or closing the fresh-air
valve.

Optimum fine dust collection through the synergy of cleaning processes and special filter media.
With the filter media tailored to the respective cleaning systems, we are already able today
to meet the stringent EU regulations for fine dust (PM10). This has been confirmed by latest
research by the University of Karlsruhe. As a customer, you too can benefit from this
enormous lead in know how.
Adsorption and absorption can be combined
by mixing different sorbents to influence the
separation of pollutants.
We are able to provide a vast range of versions to
comply with customer-related demands. In do-
ing so, we use system components such as mixer

pollutants such as HF, HCL and SO2 through an
homogenous mixture of additive and crude gas

Regulations (DSEAR) Rigorous Enforcement
Airborne dust and fume in the workplace must be controlled to protect the health of
personnel. In May 2008 the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) introduced new guidance
relating to COSHH regulations and the mandatory regular thorough examination and
testing of “local exhaust ventilation” (LEV) equipment. This follows a mandate by the
Government to HSE to reduce the incidence of work related respiratory disease. All
such installations must by law be tested and inspected at 14 month maximum
intervals. A detailed report, which compares with original commissioning data is a
legal requirement. HSE have now trained their inspectors to fully understand these
tests and they are equipped to take their own measurements if required to verify data.
Maintenance for long life and economy
It goes without saying that a neglected machine will finally bite back with costly inconvenient
breakdowns. However, day to day energy costs may also become much higher, replacement
parts will be required more frequently and its shorter lifespan will increase the rate of
depreciation. The use of non-standard “pattern” replacement parts, in particular inferior filter
bags or cartridges can prejudice performance and prove to be a false economy.
Call Dantherm Filtration to find out how planned maintenance schemes can be tailored exactly to the needs of your production, saving money by incorporating mandatory thorough examination and testing for COSHH compliance.
Dantherm Filtration offer a “thorough examination and testing”
service in accordance with COSHH. Please ask for details.
Protecting your investment and your personnel
We would like your filter to give you long lasting energy efficient service. A quality dust
extraction system may not only protect your workforce in compliance with Control of
Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations, it may be a vital part of your
process, influencing the quality of your product. We hope that the following information
will help you and your workforce get the maximum benefits from your investment, with
minimum running cost and no unwanted stoppages.
