WasteWaste are the unwanted materials that are not prime products. Waste may be generated during the extraction of raw materials, the processing of raw materials into intermediate and final products, the consumption of final products and human activities. Residual recycled or reused at the place of generation are excluded.

Types of wasteWaste can be of different types exerted from different fields.Domestic Waste : any non put rescible  waste, consisting of combustible materials, such as paper, cardboard ,etc. Industrial Waste : industrial waste means solid waste generated by manufacturing or industrial processes.Chemical Waste : waste that is made from harmful chemicals.Medical Waste : normally it refers to waste products that cannot be considered general waste, produced from healthcare premises, such as hospitals, clinics, doctor’s offices, veterinary hospitals and labs.Market Waste : The Waste Market undertakes the interesting task of examining the creative ways in which a handful of European countries, namely Belgium, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, and Sweden, have managed their waste collection market.

Domestic WasteThe UK produces about 330 million tonnes of waste a year, a quarter of which is from homes and business. Councils in England have been told to increase recycling rates to 50% by 2020 - that is about double the current rate.

In the UK, clinical waste and the way it is to be handled is closely regulated. Every thing is done under qualified workers. Applicable legislation  includes the Environmental Protection Act 1990 (Part II), Waste Management Licensing Regulations 1994, and the Hazardous Waste Regulations (England & Wales) 2005, as well as the Special Waste Regulations in Scotland. (England & Wales) 2005, as well as the Special Waste Regulations in Scotland.

Chemical Waste Chemical Waste is the waste made from harmful chemicals. Chemical waste may fall under regulations such as COSHH in the United Kingdom, or the Clean Water Act and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act in the United States. In the U.S., the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), as well as state and local regulations also regulate chemical use and disposal. Chemical waste may or may not be classed as hazardous waste.

Industrial WasteThe 2009 Commercial and Industrial waste arisings results were published on 16 December 2010. Since publication, it was discovered that some of the waste data for one business in the food, drink and tobacco sector, in the South West, was entered incorrectly, resulting in an overestimate of waste generation by approximately 100,000 tonnes. This also affects the national C&I total waste arisings estimate, the C&I waste management data and some waste types.

Domestic WasteMuch of household waste can be minimized by recycling items such as newspapers, plastic beverage containers, glass, and aluminum. Recyclers in local areas can be found using the DEQ's Recyclers Directory. The Waxman Markey Bill-American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 (ACESA) indirectly promotes recycling as a means to address global warming. EPA created the Waste Reduction Model (WARM) to help solid waste planners and organizations track and voluntarily report greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions from several different materials management practices.

Medical WasteImproper management of healthcare wastes from hospitals, clinics and other facilities in GCC countries pose occupational and public health risks to patients, health workers, waste handlers, haulers and general public. It may also lead to contamination of air, water and soil which may affect all forms of life. In addition, if waste is not disposed of properly, members of the community may have an opportunity to collect disposable medical equipment (particularly syringes) and to resell these materials which may cause dangerous diseases. According to World Health Organization, hospital-associated infections (HAI) affect approximately 5% of hospitalized patients. The complexity of infectious healthcare waste problems and the recent rise in the incidence of diseases such as AIDS, SARS and Hepatitis B open up greater risk of contamination through mishandling and unsafe disposal practices.

Chemical WasteChemical Waste Management and Waste Management of North America (Petitioners) required review of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations that establish informal procedures for administrative hearings concerning the issuance of corrective action orders under Section:3008(h) of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), as modified by Section. The responsibility for determining whether or not a waste must be classified as hazardous rests with the generator. The federally established scheme for this determination is described below in the Chemical Waste instructions. Assistance in making the determination is available from the Office of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS).

Industrial WasteWaste Industries USA picks up trash companies nearly as often as it picks up trash cans: The active consolidator has made more than 130 acquisitions since 1990. When it's not buying companies, Waste Industries USA is collecting, hauling, and disposing of solid waste for 875,000 municipal, residential, commercial, and industrial customers in the southeastern US. The company has 36 collection operations, and about 65 drop-off centers, 29 transfer stations, 12 recycling facilities and nine landfills. In 2008 Chairman Lonnie Pool Jr. led an investor group that took the company private for about $544 million.

ConclusionFrom the above info we knew that waste is harmful for us in various ways. We can take various steps to handle waste. Above has a nice description of the waste management in United Kingdom and United State Of America.
