Now for some Hotel Etiquette

Quiet hours at the hotel will be observed from 10:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. At 10:30 p.m., students must be in their own rooms. Students must sleep in their assigned hotel rooms each night and must remain in their rooms until awakened by the chaperones. We get the students up at 5:30 – 6:00 a.m., so make sure you get some sleep and be respectful of others sleeping in your room.

Remember to:• Close doors quietly,• Talk in a low tone of voice,• Stay on assigned floors, • Walk (rather than run) throughout the hotel,• Wear shoes/sandals at all times,• Cover up when going down to the pool area.

Safety and Night Chaperones

Students must always be with a buddy or chaperone while at the hotel. (Or any other time.)

Night chaperones are hired by Worldstrides to monitor the halls throughout the night

(10 p.m. – 5 a.m.) and to assist in any situations that may occur overnight. I have always received positive reports in the

morning . . . I don’t want that to change!

Page 9: WASHINGTON D.C 2015! Welcome CMS and WMS Parents and Students Are you ready for 5 days, 23 sights, 12 great meals and lots of fun!

Picture ID

You should not need picture ID to get through security, but we want you to have your ASB card with you so you do have picture ID.

If you need one made it will cost $5.00. Check with your secretary at your school.

PACKING FOR YOUR TRIP

1) Luggage Fees: Alaska Airline’s luggage fee is $25 per bag. 1) Students will need to have cash for that at

time of check-in at the Spokane Airport.2) The return flight is Southwest so luggage

check in is free.

Luggage/ going through security

Luggage Tags: All luggage must have completed “WorldStrides” luggage tags Also a good idea to have name, address, phone

number (or just your phone number) inside your luggage.

Please fill out a luggage tag now if you do not have one. Have one on all your carry on luggage also.

DO NOT JOKE ABOUT ANYTHING WHILE GOING THROUGH SECURITY. THEY TAKE ALL COMMENTS SERIOUS.

Chances are you will have to remove you shoes when you go through security, be prepared. (Don’t wear holey socks. )

Luggage Tips

1. Weight of checked bag cannot be over 50 pounds.

2. Do not lock your luggage.3. Carefully pack all your liquids, gels,

and/or aerosols in your checked baggage. If you are not checking luggage ALL liquids must fit in a small zip lock bag. Have it on top to take out when you go through security.

4. Report lost or damaged luggage before we leave the D.C. airport.

Page 14: WASHINGTON D.C 2015! Welcome CMS and WMS Parents and Students Are you ready for 5 days, 23 sights, 12 great meals and lots of fun!

Carry-on

Two carry-on bags are allowed. One should fit in the overhead bin, the other under your seat in front of you. Backpacks are a great idea! Student is responsible for carry-on at all times. Include medicines, camera, and anything else you

couldn’t live without for one night. No Sharp Objects!Liquids Guidelines: You are allowed one quart sized zip-lock bag

containing liquids, gels, and/or aerosols in containers of 3 oz. or less per container.

Most “travel size” items are 3 oz. or less. It must be sealed and be taken out of your carry-on

when you go through security.

Spending Money

Trip price is inclusive – all food, tours, lodging, and transportation is paid for.

Extra money can be for snacks and souvenirs $50.00 to $100.00 is recommended (not including

luggage check fee) Do not bring large amounts of cash Limit spending in the airport (very expensive) Prepaid Credit/Debit Cards are safe and flexible for

student travel We will be going to a great souvenir shop, that has

great prices, the last day so don’t spend all your money prior!

Page 16: WASHINGTON D.C 2015! Welcome CMS and WMS Parents and Students Are you ready for 5 days, 23 sights, 12 great meals and lots of fun!

Packing a Lunch

Pack a lunch and snacks for Saturday on the plane. Great ideas are: beef jerky, string cheese, fruit snacks or roll ups, granola bars, sandwiches (probably best to not bring peanut butter.) Take an empty water bottle or plastic drink container. Then you can fill it up when you get through security.

World Strides will be giving each student some money for lunch during our layover in Minneapolis. $10.00 on the way over and $10.00 on the way back. Your chaperone will have it for you in an envelope

when we get to the airports to change planes.

Page 17: WASHINGTON D.C 2015! Welcome CMS and WMS Parents and Students Are you ready for 5 days, 23 sights, 12 great meals and lots of fun!

Tipping

Tipping in restaurants is not necessary, WorldStrides has taken care of this for us.

We ask that each student contributes about $5 toward a tip for the course leader. This person is with us on the bus and many of the tours to assist us and explain the sites we will be seeing. The bus driver receives a tip from World Strides. We will include this in a card and present it to the course leader on the last day. (It is optional.)

This can be given to us at any time before we leave, or we can collect it this evening if it is convenient.

Valuables

DO NOT bring expensive jewelry, cameras, or purses. Of course you will want to bring your phone or your camera, but be responsible for them.

DO NOT leave electronics or anything else of value in the bus or the hotel.

World Strides or the middle schools or Cheney School District is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Phone Contact

How many students will be bringing a cell phone?

If your student is not bringing a cell phone: The top of the itinerary has the numbers for “Tour

Central” in both Williamsburg and Washington DC. If you need to contact your child or me, you may call these numbers and they will connect to me.

You can also call a friend’s or roommate’s cell phone.

Bus Etiquette

After we get our luggage in D.C., we will go to the bus as a group.

We will need 2 students to help load the luggage under the bus every time we move locations.

Everyone else needs to place their bags on the sidewalk and get on the bus.

VERY IMPORTANT:When the bus driver, course leader,

or a trip leader is talking, do not talk, text, or listen to music!

Page 25: WASHINGTON D.C 2015! Welcome CMS and WMS Parents and Students Are you ready for 5 days, 23 sights, 12 great meals and lots of fun!

While Traveling . . .

Obey the rules of behavior in the Behavior Contract and Behavior Guidelines Handout and those established by the Program Leader and chaperones.

Be quiet and respectful at our nation’s monuments, memorials, museums, and cemeteries, and show respect to the Course Leader and Bus Driver.

Keep the bus clean. For safety and insurance reasons our bus driver is prohibited from driving the bus unless it is litter-free. We will collect all trash at the end of the day, before students are allowed off the bus.

Page 26: WASHINGTON D.C 2015! Welcome CMS and WMS Parents and Students Are you ready for 5 days, 23 sights, 12 great meals and lots of fun!

While Traveling . . .

You must have a buddy at all times. NEVER go anywhere alone.

Stay with the group, but if separated call either a friend or the World Strides # on your tour badge.

Dispose of litter properly in all places. Help keep our nation beautiful!

Be on time and follow directions. Arrive with a willingness to listen and

learn. Students should not use cell phones, listen to music, or play handheld video games while your Course Leader or Driver is speaking.

Page 27: WASHINGTON D.C 2015! Welcome CMS and WMS Parents and Students Are you ready for 5 days, 23 sights, 12 great meals and lots of fun!

Finally . . .

GOOD COMMON SENSE, RESPECT, AND CONSIDERATION FOR OTHERS AND THEIR PROPERTY SHOULD BE PRACTICED AT ALL

TIMES.

LET’S HAVE A GREAT TRIP 8th GRADERS!
