WASHINGTON DAFFODIL SOCIETY BULB ORDER -- 1986 ORDER DEADLINE: APRIL 30, 1986 PICKUP DATE: OCTOBER 26, 1986 at WDS Fall Meeting - 2:30 pm, National Arboretum Orders not picked up on October 26 will he donated to the Fern Valley planting at the Arboretum -- so mark your calendars NOW, and be sure to arrange for someone to pick up your order for you if you cannot attend. There will be at least one exciting Daffodil Door Prize to be won at the Fall Meeting, so do plan to attend. More on the prize(s) in future newsletters. IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT In 1988, our WDS show will also be the ADS National Show -- the first ever to be held in Washington, and the first national convention here since the founding convention in 1956. National shows offer many more collection classes -- and awards, including some designed and made by Marie Bozievich. NOW is the time to plan to win some national awards! Assess your present collection for diversity and bloom season, and add to it carefully so that you may be able to enter some collections. A special effort has been made this year to have ,a selection of fine show cultivars available to members for planting in time for this show, especially in hard-to-find divisions/color codes. (Of interest may be a survey of purchases of the last three years which shows very few bulbs ordered in the following categories: 1) Div. 1 - all colors; 2) Div. 2 - Y-Y and W-Y; 3) Div. 3 - all colors; 4) Div. 5; and 5) late varieties - especially good for late shows and to extend the season.) All bulbs are offered subject to availability at prices quoted by our suppliers. Occasionally, shortages make substitutions necessary, especially in collections. When substitutions are made, cultivars of equal or greater value will be used. Higher prices in this year's list reflect two conditions: 1) the higher exchange rate against European currencies -- the dollar has fallen by one-third in the last year; and 2) some suppliers seriously oversold stocks in 1985, forcing the use of newer (and more costly) cultivars. Also, bulbs sent from overseas must be sent by air, and prices include this expense. Even so, many items represent substantial savings on current catalog prices. Explanation of classification and color coding: the number is the RHS division (trumpets, long cups, etc.). The letters indicate colors: Y-yellow, W-white, G-green, 0-orange, P-pink, R-red. The color of the perianth is given first, followed by a hyphen and one or three letters indicating cup color(s). Three letters indicate zones of color in the cup, beginning with the throat. Names of raisers and date of introduction follow color code in parentheses. After parentheses, approxinate bloom season is shown by the letters E-early, M-midseason, L-late, or a combination of these letters (i.e., LM-late midseason, etc.). Consistent show winners are indicated by an asterisk, *, and highly recommended flowers and/or very good value by two asterisks, **. (Those newer cultivars with asterisks indicate a record of wins as a seedling. No asterisks used on miniatures.) Abbreviations for raisers: AS-Abel Smith; B-Bloomer, Ba- Ballydorn; BB-Brodie of Brodie; B1-Blanchard; Bo-Board; C-Carncairn; Ch-Chapman; Co- Coleman; D-Duncan; deN-de Navarro; Du-Dunlop; E-Evans; En-Engleheart; F-Fowlds; G-Gray; GB-Gore-Booth; Ge-Gerritsen; J-Jackson; K-Kanouse; L-Lea; M-Mitsch; Mo-Morrill; N-Noton; O'M-O'More; OBF-Oregon Bulb Farms; P-Pannill; Pa-Palmer, Ph-C.R. IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

In 1988, our WDS show will also be the ADS National Show -- the first ever to be held in Washington, and the first national convention here since the founding convention in 1956. 5; and 5) late varieties - especially good for late shows and to extend the season.)

All bulbs are offered subject to availability at prices quoted by our suppliers.

No asterisks used on miniatures.)
