ELECTION PRAYER O God, we acknowledge you today as Lord, Not only of individuals, but of nations & governments. We thank you for the privilege of being able to organize ourselves politically & of knowing that political loyalty does not have to mean disloyalty to you. We thank you for your law, which our Founding Fathers acknowledged & recognized as higher than any human law. We thank you for the opportunity that this election year puts before us, to exercise our solemn duty not only to vote, but to influence countless others to vote, & to vote correctly. Lord, we pray that your people may be awakened. Let them realize that while politics is not their salvation, their response to you requires that they be politically active. Awaken your people to know that they are not called to be a sect fleeing the world but rather a community of faith renewing the world. Awaken them that the same hands lifted up to you in prayer are the hands that pull the lever in the voting booth; That the same eyes that read your Word are the eyes that read the names on the ballot, & that they do not cease to be Christians when they enter the voting booth. Awaken your people to a commitment to justice to the sanctity of marriage & the family, to the dignity of each individual human life, & to the truth that human rights begin when human lives begin,& not one moment later. Lord, we rejoice today that we are citizens of your kingdom. May that make us all the more committed to being faithful citizens on earth. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

October 7th - 27th Sunday in Ordinary Time Dynamic Catholic, Alive! – The Power of Marriage for Evangelization Both the First Reading and the Gospel today illuminate the beauty of the Sacrament of Matrimony that God calls many people to in this life. Living the vocation of marriage well is central to evangelization. I recently had a conversation with a friend of mine who lives in New Hampshire. She and her husband have raised 7 children over the years and they are extremely devout Catholics. As we talked, we mentioned the simple but profound truth: the vocation of marriage lived out with selfless love for one’s spouse and children is a radiant testament to the love that Christ has for His Bride, the Church. How necessary it is for parents to foster discipleship and a knowledge of the faith in themselves and subsequently, to hand it on to their children. Today, many couples seem to feel a need to justify their vocation of marriage by forming a particular ministry or apostolate. If God has placed this desire on your heart, then certainly follow it, but it is NOT necessary for all. In this confused age in which we live, laying down your life for your spouse and children is a phenomenal witness to the love of God and can attract people to strive for holiness in their own lives and marriages. It is an excellent reminder of the need to strengthen spousal ties and family ties in order to provide essential moral teaching for your children and to prepare them to become saints. archstl.org/dynamic

St. Joseph News- St .Joseph Church now has a new look with the installation of a ramp/sidewalk thanks to kind donors. Govero & Son Flatwork & all of their crew did a fantastic job in designing & constructing this project to meet ADA requirements. Our beautiful church can now be readily accessible by all in individuals who may need to use wheelchairs, walkers, scooters or those who just find it hard to climb stairs or walk on uneven surfaces. Thanks also to D & K Whitley Tree Service who did a great job in removing the 140 yr. old tree in front of the rectory. We miss it, but it had died & posed an extreme hazard. Finally, thank to all those who continually donate their time, talent, & treasure to make our place of worship both inside & out so beautiful & grace-filled. Your contributions are appreciated even though, many times, fo without acknowledgement. God bless you all for you continue to do ! Note : Our regular scheduled parish meeting will be Tuesday, Oct.23-@ 6:30 pm. All parish members are welcome to attend.

THIS WEEKS READINGS- Twice in today’s readings we hear, in reference to those who are married, “the two become one flesh.” Significantly, we hear these words first in Genesis, where the first person becomes a co-creator, naming all the animals and even providing a rib so that God could create a partner. In becoming one flesh, two people create a new and unique entity. Let us reflect on how we have or can become co-creators, creating bonds and creating life from the impulse of love. QUESTION OF THE WEEK- In what ways are relationships in my life similar to the love of God for humanity? Do some relationships fail to mirror that love God has for us? Can I look at others in my life as God does?

Fr. Tony & Fr. John will be attending a Convocation at Tan Tara, Lake of the Ozarks all next week. In case of an emergency, please contact the office , Fr. Rich Tillman or Fr. Jim Hanson.

WORD OF LIFE October 7th- “By embracing the mission entrusted to him, St. Juan Diego helped bring Christ’s transforming love to cultures gripped by oppression and death. . . .
