Tim,

Sorry I have been out of the office. I will revert to you soonest with the requested info. Thank you

From: Vannorman, Tim [mailto:[email protected]] Sent : Friday, June 20, 2014 8:20 PMTo: Elly HamunyelaSubject : Recent black rhino hunts

Elly,

I hope that I find you well! I am sure things are very busy, but I hope that you have some opportunities to relaxfrom time to time.

As you are aware, the U.S. currently has two applications pending for the import of black rhinoceros trophiesfrom Namibia: Corey Daniel Knowlton and Micheal Scott Luzich. In order for my office to complete the review ofthese applications, we need additional information about the rhinos that were/will be taken. As with the importpermit issued to Mr. David Reinke in 2013, my office needs information on the animal (or animals, if several havebeen selected) that is selected for the hunts. Specifically, we would need: a) confirmation that the animal(s) ismale; b) age of the rhinoceros; c) current location (if still alive) or location of hunt (if dead) of the animal(s); d) pastlocations of the animal(s) (i.e., its history) and e) the circumstances under which the harvesting of the rhino isbiologically advisable (e.g., post-reproductive and restricting cows from breeding with younger, under-representedmales in the area).

I had asked John Jackson to obtain this information, since he is representing both hunters, but he informed methat you preferred that I contact you directly. Once we receive this information, we can proceed with our review.

Thank you for any help you can provided.

Sincerely,

10/30/2014 DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR Mail - RE: Recent black rhino hunts

Dear Tim,

Attached is a table with information on black rhino which can be trophy hunted, all male. A photo of anadult male black rhino hunted (24 September 2013) by Michael Luzich in Mangetti National Park isattached as well. The rhino was killed at about 08H50 between the areas of Zebra Waterhole and MiddlePan. The male rhino was the first to be translocated to Mangetti NP in 2009 from the boundary of EtoshaNational Park. It was translocated because it was post-reproductive and was breaking out of the park.Attached is a photograph of hunt.

Regards

Elly

Elly,

I am sorry that I have not gotten back to you sooner - things have been very hectic here over the last couple ofmonths.

Thank you for the information on Mr. Luzich's hunt. For Mr. Knowlton, has he hunted an animal yet? If yes, whatanimal was taken? If no, do you have any better idea of which animal from your list will be taken?

I am concerned about "Otto" in Namib Naukluft Park. Your spreadsheet comments have "problemanimal/inbreeding"; could you elaborate on this comment? At only 18 years old, could he be used elsewhere?

I will be attending AWCF in Hawassa in November; hope to see you then.

Thank you,

Tim

Tim,

Kindly find my answers next to your questions below in blue. Thanks

Elly,

I am sorry that I have not gotten back to you sooner - things have been very hectic here over the last couple ofmonths. – I understand, it has been hectic here as well.

Thank you for the information on Mr. Luzich's hunt. For Mr. Knowlton, has he hunted an animal yet? If yes, whatanimal was taken? If no, do you have any better idea of which animal from your list will be taken? – Not yettaken. Highly likely to be one of the Mangetti Bulls.

I am concerned about "Otto" in Namib Naukluft Park. Your spreadsheet comments have "problemanimal/inbreeding"; could you elaborate on this comment? At only 18 years old, could he be used elsewhere? - Otto killed one cow and two bulls in Namibia Naukluft Park that is why he is considered as a problem animal. Meanwhile we have decided to soon dehorn him and introduce another older bull in the same park, hence off thelist now.

I will be attending AWCF in Hawassa in November; hope to see you then. Unfortunately I will be in the field then.

Thank you, Thank you too.

Tim
