WÄRTSILÄ STEERABLE THRUSTER SOLUTIONSTRANSCRIPT
WÄRTSILÄ STEERABLE THRUSTER SOLUTIONS
When it comes to designing, manufacturing
and delivering high-quality steerable
thrusters for offshore, offshore support,
seagoing ships and tugs Wärtsilä is the
right partner.
Our dedicated engineering team
always seeks optimal solutions in close
co-operation with you, whether you are the
owner / operator, consultant or shipyard.
THE WÄRTSILÄ® STEERABLE THRUSTERS OFFER YOU FOUR MAJOR TECHNICAL BENEFITS:
BEARING ARRANGEMENT
Exclusive use of anti-friction spherical
roller or tapered roller bearings, which run
completely immersed in ISO 150 gear type
lubricating oil.
A split axial and radial bearing layout is
applied; since each bearing has a specific
function, this layout ensures they perform in
the optimal way.
Bearing lifetime is in the order of 115,000
hours based on an average operational profile.
GEARWHEELS / TOOTH CONTACT PATTERN
The bevel gears (pinion and crown wheel) are
machined according the cyclo-palloid (high
power gear) method from high-quality forged
steel.
The teeth are fine-machined when the
hardening process is successfully completed.
When finished, the gearwheels comply with
class 6 or better under DIN 3965.
Optimal tooth contact is achieved by precise
adjustment of the gearwheels and the split
axial and radial bearing layout.
The pinion is supported on both sides by
radial roller bearings (lower bearing in cast-in
straddle), to prevent changes to the gear mesh
adjustment under variable load. Gearwheel
lifetime is infinite.
OUTBOARD SEALS
To prevent water ingress or oil leakage,
high-quality outboard seals are fitted on the
propeller shaft and steering pipe with:
Triple Viton lip type (exchangeable) sealing •rings
Liner with ceramic coating •
