WARRUMBUNGLE SHIRE PREFECT’S LUNCHEON
I was extremely proud of our School Captains and Vice Captains when they represented our school at
the Mayors luncheon in Coonabarabran in late July. Kaitlyn Thomson, Kurt Williams, Kerrie Ward and
Rebecca Sciberras gained praise from our Mayor, Mr Shinton and his wife, Julie in regard to
presentation and their communication skills. As a school and community it was fantastic to see the
calibre of leaders we produce.

PRINCIPAL’S NOTES
Primary Athletics
Several Primary students were successful in qualifying for the
North West Athletics this Friday at Tamworth. The students
competing are Jack Bracken 100m, Jake Swan 800m, Brendan
Poyser Long Jump, Airlie Smith 100m, Victoria Monk High Jump
and Long Jump. We wish them all the very best of luck on Friday
and congratulate them on this very significant achievement.
Binnaway 4 Way Sports
All students from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 are invited to attend the
Binnaway 4 Ways Sports Day this Friday. This is a wonderful
opportunity for our students to enjoy various sports and mix with
students from neighbouring schools. There are only eight notes in
today. Please ensure the notes are in as soon as possible.
Staff Development Day
This Saturday, the staff will be participating in a Staff
Development day to further develop our School Plan and also take
part in a Wellbeing and Team building workshop.
Positive feedback
I have had several casual teachers say that they prefer to work in our school, because our
students are well behaved and the school has a friendly atmosphere. This is wonderful
feedback, so keep up the positivity! J Waters

KINDERGARTEN/YEAR 1 NEWS In class we have been reading the story “Fearless” by Colin
Thompson. The story is about a dog named Fearless. It is based
around the themes of being true to ourselves, the difference between
intention and perception, the difference between what we are called
and our characteristics. Being loving is just as important as being
smart and looks can deceive!
In Maths we have been counting on by 1s, 2s, 5s and 10s. We have
been making groups of ten, counting them and writing numbers on the Place Value chart.
In Science we have been observing and recording changes in our landscape, such as constructed,
managed and natural.
The Infants Tabloid Sports day will be held in Dunedoo in early September. We are expecting details
to arrive soon about this day.

YEAR 2/3/4 NEWS Last week 2/3/4 were very busy completing some fantastic fairytale writing. We looked at historical
fairytales and fairytales from around the world. We changed these fairytales to create new ones of our
own.
In Maths we have continued learning about 3D shapes and have been both drawing and building our
own. We have also been learning our times tables by playing games where we need to multiply the
numbers we roll on dice.
This Friday years 3/4/5/6 will be going to Binnaway to compete in 4-Ways sport. This is always a
fantastic day and all students are looking forward to it.

NAPLAN On Friday we received the NAPLAN results for students in years 3, 5, 7 and 9. These results will be
analysed at school so as to best support students in their areas of need. We will look at school trends
and individual results in order to do this. Letters which include individual student results will be sent
home to parents today.

YEAR 2/3/4 LIBRARY NEWS Just a short note to advise students in Class 2/3/4 (and parents) of a change to the class timetable,
regarding the class Library Period each week.
From this week, on Friday 28th August, Class 2/3/4 will have their Library Period in the Library
Period 4 each Friday.
We apologise for this change and look forward to working with the students, as we all learn to
navigate and enjoy our new Library Administration system, “Oliver.”

SECONDARY NEWS
There has been so much going on in Secondary this semester and the pace is picking
up. There are a couple of important things coming up shortly that we all need to
keep in mind.
Year 11 Yearly Exams and Year 12 Trials These exams begin next Monday (Week 8) and a timetable will be distributed by
midweek. These are an important part of your assessment marks, for each subject so study hard and
make certain you achieve the best possible outcome. Best of luck to you all during this week.
Junior Judging Day 2015 Mendooran PA & H Association Inc. will be holding a Junior Judging Day on Wednesday 9th
September 2015 to encourage and demonstrate the skills and procedures involved in livestock judging. I
will be organising a school group to attend this event which is open to all students over 10 years old who
are interested in attending. The cost per student will be $5.00
and permission notes will be available by the end of the week
so anyone who is interested please make sure you grab one. A
huge thank you to Reg Sweeney for the organisation of this
event.
Aspire Taster Day Once again the great folks from UNSW and ASPIRE are
holding a ‘University Taster Day’ on Wednesday 28th October
in Dubbo. This is a funded day for ASPIRE partner schools (of
which we are one) and will incur no cost to our year 9 students. Permission notes and other information
will be available as the day draws nearer.

YEAR 9/10 ENGLISH This term years 9 and 10 have been busily reading, absorbing and analysing war poetry. They have done
this through studying a collection of war poets e.g. Wilfred Owen, Rupert Brooke, Alfred Tennyson and
more. They have then used this information and their new skill sets to create comic strips and newspaper
articles based on their interpretation of the poems. One task was to take Wilfred Owen’s, ‘Disabled’,
create a back story for the solider within the poem and write a newspaper article on it. The students
worked in groups to complete this task and they did an excellent job! An example of one of these pieces
has been included in the newsletter on the following page (page 6).

COMMUNITY NEWS SCAM ALERT It has come to our attention that a new scam is making the rounds recently. The caller is posing as a
employee of the ATO and claiming you owe a large sum of money to the ATO. Please be advised that
the ATO will not call you, if they need to contact you they will do so via post.
PONY CLUB NEWS This weekend is our gymkhana. We will be having a rally day working bee on Saturday starting at 11
o’clock. It will be great to have so many people help, to get things organised and the riders can enjoy
having a rally once we have a few things set up. Work on the shed is coming along and it is looking
fantastic.
We will also need plenty of help on Sunday in the canteen, stewarding and helping run sporting events.
At the meeting last Tuesday night we discussed the running of our gymkhana, finding a date to run our
showjumping weekend, work on the shed, the cost of ground hire, covering the containers and making
trailer parking space in between them, the ploughing of some areas of the grounds, prizes for the
gymkhana and the building of a cross country course. Thank you to everyone that made the effort to
attend the meeting.

SWIMMING CLUB NEWS The swimming club will be having a debutante ball being held on the 14th of November, with six
