Today, brings to a close our first term for 2018. And, how quickly it has flown by. As always, the term has provided many challenges and learning opportunities for our students, staff and I’m sure many parents. Our teaching focus throughout Term 1 has been around Literacy and Numeracy and ensuring that we provide a consistent approach across the school. Throughout the term, staff have been supported by our School Improvement Leaders Katie/Rick-(Literacy), Jenny (Numeracy), Sarah (ICT) and Cathie (Wellbeing)) who have provided professional learning for staff to reflect on their classroom practice and ensure that all students are working at their ‘point of need’ and being engaged and challenged in all that they do. Learning opportunities have been vast and varied and our students continue to develop skills in being resilient, confident and persistence learners who are able to self-manage their learning. There have been a variety of extra-curricular activities that support our learning programs and provide opportunities for students to try new skills and develop their collaboration and communication skills further. And on display during all of these learning opportunities are our school CARE (Creativity, Achievement, Respect and Encouragement) values. As I move around the school, it is fantastic to see the growth in all of our students and I am excited about continuing this learning development throughout Term 2. Congratulations to all of our students and staff on a wonderful term and a sincere thank you to our parent community for your ongoing support. Staffing News After a long and distinguished career, Meryl Teather has decided to retire from teaching. Meryl began her career at Warrandyte Primary School back in 1986. For much of this time, Meryl has been a Leading Teacher and a key part of the school’s leadership team. From all of the Warrandyte community we sincerely thank Meryl for her outstanding commitment and contribution to the school over many years and we wish her all the very best on her retirement. Meryl will be officially finish-ing at the end of Term 2. Jayde Cairns will continue in her classroom role until the end of the year. In other staff news, congratulations to Katie (Dave, Archie and Ned) on the news that they are expecting their third child. This is wonderful news and we wish them all the very best. Katie will continue working in her classroom with Sally into Term 3. We will announce her finishing date closer to the arrival of her baby.

2019 Foundation/Prep Enrolments School tours will commence Term 2 for prospective 2019 Foundation students/Preps and their families. Two time slots will be available each Tuesday. It is essential that bookings are made via the office. If you know of any families that are interested in enrolling their child at Warrandyte for the 2019 school year, please ask them to book a tour or call me at the school. Current families with 2019 Foundation/Prep siblings It would be greatly appreciated if all CURRENT families who have a child due to commence Foundation/Prep in 2019 could please collect an enrolment form from the office and complete this process as soon as possible; this allows us to commence managing student numbers for the 2019 school year in advance. Buildings and Grounds News

The Buildings and Grounds Committee of School Council, is responsible for the maintenance and beautification of

the school grounds. As part of this role, we have purchased 10 new 120 litre waste collection bins and are offering

the larger old bins for sale to the school community. They can be used as compost bins or for water collection for

example. If you are interested let Cherise know; we are asking for a small donation as payment. Thanks Cathie

Nillumbik Council Message

As part of Nillumbik Council’s ongoing commitment to road safety, we are undertaking a review of access to schools, preschools and child care centres from within Nillumbik Shire.

Our online feedback tool allows parents, children and staff to identify safety concerns when walking or riding to your facility, or anything that prevents them from walking or riding. We would also like feedback on current drop off and pick up zones and how safety can be improved at these locations.

We understand that your school is not located within our shire, however a number of your students travel from within Nillumbik to your school. We therefor request that you share the below link so that families that use your facility can provide feedback. This will enable Council to improve the safety for everyone accessing schools and cen-tres within Nillumbik.

https://participate.nillumbik.vic.gov.au/schoolsafety/

Feedback will be open until 27 April 2018. Once all feedback has been received Council officers will assess each of the concerns. A program of works will be prepared and considered for funding. Any concerns or recommendations received in locations where Council is not the responsible authority (i.e. VicRoads roads, within other municipali-ties, private property, etc) will be forwarded to the appropriate authority for their consideration.

If you would like to discuss anything further, please feel free to contact me on the number below, or if I am unavail-able you can call Council’s reception (9433 3111) and ask to speak with someone from Council’s traffic team.

Regards,

Jarrod Lawson | Project Engineer
