Low fuel and ice alert circuits

Circuit description A 12 volts positive ignition feed supplies both the low fuel and ice aIert warning panels. The feed is supplied via a green cable from fuse 28 at the fuseboard through the normally closed contacts of the warning lamps dimming relay to a greewred cable. This eable is muted ftom the relay, via a connection at the diode board. to the tow fuel and ice alert waming panels.

If the fuel level falls to approximaety 16 lirres i3.5 Imperial gallons. 4.2 US gallons) the fuel level ttansminer provides an earth parh along the greedorange cable, via a connection at the diode board, to illuminxe the low fuel warning panel.

The ice alen warning panel is illuminated when the outside air temperature drops to approximately +l "C or below. This is achieved by the ambient air temperature sensor providing a voltage (which varies with air temperature) to the three-in-one digital instrument. This voltage is compared with a reference vohage within the instrumem; when the two voltages are equal a transistor, within the instrument switches to provide an eanh path on the dadgreen cable to ilhminate the waming panel. .

Should one or both warning panels be illuminated and the main lighring switch be in any mher position than OFF. a 12 vofts positive feed on the red cable ftom fuse I6 at tne fuseboard energises rhe warning bmps dimming relay. this disconnects the feed from the green to greedred cables at the relay. When this occurs a secondary feed from fuse 28. on the green cable to the diode board, is passed through a Zennor diode to the greedred cable. This illuminates the warning panels ar reduced imensrty.

During engine cranking a 12 volts bsirive feed carried by the white cable from fuse 27 at the fuseboard to the aaner switch is transferred to a whitdbtaek cabk. This then energises the warning lamps t en relay IQ provide an eanh path on the orangdred cable from the diode board to illuminate both the low fuel and ice alert waming panels.

This workshop manual has been compiled to assin Service Personnel r~sponsible for the maintenance a d overhaul of Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit, Rolls-Royce Silver Spur and Bentley Mutsanne motor cars built from vehicle identif ieation number (V IN I *SCAZSOMWACH01001*-

Information rdsting to any subsequent modification will be circulated by the issue of either amended pages or service information sheets.

At the beginning of each chapter is an issue reeord shm showing the issue of secrions and amended pages. When a section or amended page is issued a new issue record sheet will alx, be artached. T hie record sheet will record tht amendment. thus providing an up-tedatc record of sec?ions and pages.

Throughout the manual reference is made to the right-hand and lefr-hand side of the car. t h i s is deter- mined when sitring in the driver's seat.

In order ro ideqzifv the two banks of engine cylinders, it should be no~ed that 'A' bank of cylinders is on the right-hand side rnd 'B' bank on the left-hand side *.hen viewed from the driver's seat.
